Start from 0:20.
Christian Bale’s old photos.
now a SMALL FACT about how christian bale makes russel baze A LITTLE MORE special and vice versa:
Chef Kevin Sousa 40, is a Pittsburgh-based chef and restaurateurwho started a Kickstarter project (supported by Braddock Mayor John Fetterman ) to fund Superior Motorsand Farm Ecosystem inBraddock, PA. His goal: raise $250,000 in 33 days to bring a restaurant, farmand job-training program to a town that’s lost more than 90% of its population in the last 50 years. 2,026 backers contributed $310,225, making Superior Motors Kickstarter’s most-funded restaurant project ever. Chef Sousa and his backers are transforming a former auto dealership owned by Braddock Mayor John Fetterman into a destination restaurant, thereby creating a culinary oasis in what is currently a food desert.
So a restaurant as a catalyst for economic renewal of Braddock whose present economic state is depicted in Out of the Furnace. The film was entirely shot in Braddock, Pennsylvania.
Chef Kevin Sousa said in an interview with More Gaudy Patter : “The other crazy thing about this is: one of our last backers — which speaks volumes about how special this place is, I think — was Christian Bale and his wife [Sibi Blazic].We didn’t need their money at this point, and he’s in Spain playing Moses. So he was watching Kickstarter, and first, his wife donates, and I’m thinking “Bale? Well, that’s got to be related.” And then, literally within 10 minutes, he came and made a big donation. So together, they donated $20,000. And he’s not going to be looking to get his reward back. They filmed “Out of the Furnace” entirely in Braddock. John (the Mayor) got really close to them and worked directly with them. And Christian Bale is on record saying that he loved the whole experience and fell in love with Braddock. To learn the dialect, he’d go to Pittsburgh bars with a hood over his head and just listen to people talk, It’s really cool to see that we had a number of people donate a dollar, we had Christian Bale [and his wife] donate $20,000, and everything in between.“
Therefore while acting as Russel Baze, Mr. Bale had actually done something which Russel Baze could have done in the sequel of Out of the Furnace when his fortune changes. He was really in the character! LOL. My understanding is that while working there he came across the problem and the above mentioned development project later and made a donation to support it. Not a big deal for a Millionaire like him, right? This should be done by anybody having a social and financial status like him. What’s Special in that, right?
Its SPECIAL because Mr. Bale did it exactly the way it should be done. Like a duty of a responsible social being. Not like a CELEBRITY. He could become a ‘Brand Ambassador for the project or use Internet to speak for the project which is usually a CELEBRITY does to support any cause. I don’t know how much it would do good to the fund raising project but surely it would have been pretty good publicity for Out of the Furnace and its HERO.
But what to do, Christian Bale is CHIRSTIAN BALE. I’m quite sure he didn’t even give the opportunity to the producers to mention it somewhere during the promotion of Out of the Furnace (note the timing, Sousa told that Mr. Bale made the donation at the time when he was shooting for Exodus in Spain i.e. around Oct-Nov 2013 after which promotion of Out of the Furnace started yet it was not even slightly referenced anywhere).
Now some BIG QUESTIONS after this small fact.
How many people know about this fact [I think even most of the fans of Mr. Bale don’t know about this]?
Does this fact could stay this low key ( only mentioned in few lines of Chef Sousa’s interview published in one or two local websites in mid 2014) if it had been done by any other celeb (even lesser known)?
Shouldn’t the people who always use an isolated “4 MINUTES” out of Mr. Bale’s almost 30 years long career to measure him as a person know this fact (not an isolated one though)?
However, after typing this lot and asking these questions I realise ONCE AGAIN - this is the very reason I love and RESPECT Christian Bale most among the people whom I don’t know personally.
