Operation Get the Girl Chapter 8
Thanks for all the notes! I really hope you’re enjoying this, feel free to leave any constructive criticism or tips.
“No, not that relationship,” Lucy clarified, “our as in me and you Natsu.”
Natsu was about to crack a joke to lighten the mood, but he saw Lucy’s chin quiver. Her eyes glistened and her body began to shake. His eyes widened, realizing that whatever Lucy was about to say was serious. He dashed towards her side and held her.
“Lucy, what’s wrong?” His voice was gentle and low, and he lead Lucy outside.
“Let’s sit over there,” she pointed to a bench by a small garden, full of flowers of all kinds. Once they sat, Lucy collapsed in Natsu’s arms. Her tears soaked his shirt but Natsu didn’t mind. He held her tightly and rubbed circular patterns into her shoulder with his thumb, like he always did to calm her down when they were younger.
They sat, watching the sunset. The only sounds that could be heard were nature’s mixtape and their own breathing. At last, Lucy decided to speak up.
“What happened to us, Natsu?” She mumbled against him. She looked up and tried to make eye contact with him, but he was looking away. Natsu kept his eyes locked on a flower, focusing on keeping his cool.
“Answer me. Why aren’t we close to each other anymore? All those pictures of us laughing, playing, being together, why are they just memories from our past?” Her voice quivered. “Why is that not our reality today?”
“Why do you think?” Natsu responded in a bitter tone. His jaw was clenched and his expression was stone cold, but his eyes betrayed him. They conveyed the sadness he felt inside. Long before Lucy realized their growing distance, Natsu was fully aware. And he knew every little reason why. The fact that Lucy didn’t know, or at least pretended not to, was quite insulting.
Did she forget that he told her that he loved her? Did she forget everything that happened? Does she think that he instantly got over it? Did she really think that he would be perfectly fine watching his friendship with her slowly fade as she replaced him with Gray?
“Tell me, please,” Lucy begged.
“What do you want to hear, Lucy?” His voice was sharp. “What do you want me to say?” He made his voice to be squeaky and high pitched (for a guy), as if imitating Lucy or other girls who have friend drama. “‘Oh, I don’t know why we’re distant now, I guess it just accidentally happened. Let’s try again giggle giggle hugs xoxo’ like what’s your goal here Luce?”
His voice returned to normal and the floodgates were opened. Natsu lost every inch of the self control he desperately tried to hold onto.
“You did this!” He snapped. “You’ve made everything about Gray! When was the last time we went out to that restaurant?! When was the last time you leaned on me instead of him?!”
Before Natsu could continue further, Lucy interjected. “When was the last time you made yourself available?! I get it, it’s my fault,” she admitted with tears in her eyes and a voice thick with emotion, “but it’s not just my fault. You’ve isolated yourself from me. You live in your own little reality, and you’ve convinced yourself that it’s true.”
“Don’t act like I’m not always there for you, Lucy,” Natsu responded, pretending that he didn’t hear the second part of Lucy’s interjection. It was the truth and he fully well knew it. However, he refused to acknowledge that it was.
“For as long as we’ve known each other, I’ve always been by your side. I’ve always protected you, thought about you; in all my decisions I put you first,” Natsu fumed, “so don’t you dare accuse me of being a bad friend.”
He was positive that he would not have spoken to her in such a harsh way if it was a normal conversation on a normal day. The anger, hopelessness, and sadness that he managed to suppress all these years erupted, anger being the most dominant feeling of them all. It was only when he saw Lucy wipe the tears from her eyes that guilt trickled into his system. He never wanted to hurt her, but it was inevitable after all those years Natsu spent being hurt.
He debated whether or not to be the first to say something, or if he should wordlessly comfort her. Before he could decide, she spoke up.
“Is it because I don’t love you back?”
“I don’t know, Lucy. Is it?” He wanted to know her perspective of the last few years.
“Well we started growing distant ever since I told you I don’t feel the same way…and it’s only getting worse-”
“Trust me,” he interrupted. “That can’t be it, since I don’t love you anymore. Not like that, at least.” Something tore at his heartstrings the second he said that. Whether the feelings swirling in him stemmed from guilt or heartbreak, Natsu would never be sure. It was a blatant lie, but she didn’t know that. She didn’t need to know that either.
“Oh,” she replied in a soft, breathy tone. After an eternity, she added a “good”.
“Yeah,” he nodded, further confirming his incorrect statement. “I’ll catch you later, Luce. Leela’s probably looking for me.” And with that, he left, not turning back once.
If he did, though, he would’ve seen Lucy, with tears trickling down, reach her arm out with the ghost of a word on her lips.
“Stay.”
Operation Get the Girl Chapter 7
Sorry that I’ve taken a while to post. The next chapter should come a lot sooner. Enjoy!
“Of course, Mirajane,” Natsu replied. “I’m taking my girlfriend. Who else?”
It’s been three years since the day Natsu confessed to Lucy. The ball rolled up yet again, but this time, he had someone to take.
Leela Mortin was not the brattiest girl, but definitely was in the running. At times he couldn’t stand her presence. However they’ve been “happily” dating for 4 months.
It was obvious to Mirajane that Natsu was just forcing himself to forget about Lucy. It was even more obvious that it wasn’t working.
“Speak of the devil,” Mirajane mumbled.
“Natsu!” A tall brunette flounced into the guild hall. Though she wasn’t a member of Fairy Tail, she was still allowed in for Natsu.
Bixlow leaned closer to Natsu. “Watch out, dude, before I snatch her away,” he cackled lightheartedly then leaned back. Natsu resisted every urge to say please do.
“So Natsu…” Leela draped herself over him, “ready for our date that you planned for me?”
Planned…that’s a funny joke.
Earlier that week, Leela told him to surprise plan her with the perfect date. She even left a list of what she wanted to do and where with specific times. Natsu didn’t plan anything, all he had to do was follow through. She was fixated on looking as if they were the best couple in the world, so she tried to do everything that would make them couple goals. She would always show off and boast about their relationship, he had no idea why. In her mind, a boyfriend-planned romantic evening would set her on the top.
They went on their date. To be perfectly honest, Natsu thought that it was a complete bust. Not because anything went wrong, but because Leela sucked and wasn’t Lucy. The only part Natsu enjoyed was making out with Leela in the end, shallow as it may seem. But after every time Natsu and Leela kiss, he couldn’t help feeling guilty.
He knew in his mind that he was just using Leela. Yeah, Leela was a conceited brat but she still didn’t deserve to be played with. Also, Natsu felt as if he was betraying Lucy. No further explanation necessary.
*************
“Oh my Lord, my first Fairy Tail annual ball!” Leela took picture after picture, with some random dude she hired being the cameraman.
“Yeah,” Natsu smiled, “I’m used to this party, but this is just a once in a lifetime opportunity for you.” She didn’t catch on, but Natsu could tell that the cameraman knew what was up when he began laughing. A week or so after the ball, Natsu was planning on breaking up with Leela.
Pose after pose, Natsu would smile for the camera, though he was internally miserable. They didn’t need a whole album just for that year’s ball, but they had enough pictures for one. Finally finishing up with taking pictures-outside, at least-the couple headed inside, and what was there shocked him.
It was unlike any other ball that he went to. Plastered around everywhere were pictures and Reetus’ paintings. All of them captured a Fairy Tail memory that they shared. Getting closer to one picture, he saw a picture of Master Makarov dancing while he was drunk and Fairy Tail cheering him on. It was when he was 12, and the memory that he didn’t even remember before looking at the picture came back to him. After looking at only a few more pictures, all the memories flooded back to him oh so clearly, as if it happened yesterday.
He kept surveying the pictures, to see one with him and Lucy. He didn’t remember how old they were, but in the picture he was giving Lucy a piggy back ride. When they were younger that was a normal occurrence; he always gave her one. But this one was different. Lucy was sick, bedridden, and absolutely miserable. The only thing that cheered her up was Natsu’s “speedy” piggy back ride. Her smile in the photo was contagious. He felt himself melt into one himself. Natsu checked to see if he was in the clear before snagging the picture from the wall. Mirajane did a good job planning this year.
“Let’s go dance,” his soon-to-be ex-girlfriend’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts.
“Go dance,” he began, “I’m gonna look for a little while longer.”
“Are you okay?” She asked with what he believed to be genuine concern. It made him feel bad for being fake to her all the time. Maybe breaking up will be good for her too. Gives her a chance to find a real man who will actually cherish her.
“It’s all good here,” he responded. She left him alone after that, which he was extremely grateful for. He didn’t know how long he spent just walking around and looking at the pictures. The boy was stuck in a trance, he honestly didn’t understand why he was this memorized by simple paper and ink.
“Do you like it?” He turned around to see Lucy standing behind him, all alone. She was beautiful as always, and Natsu broke out into his signature grin.
“Like it? It’s amazing!” He exclaimed. “Mira really outdid herself.”
“It wasn’t Mira, well she did help set up but that’s beside the point but like I thought of the idea but she was the one who actually had access to all the pictures and stuff so like maybe she deserves more credit and I’m rambling I should really stop,” Lucy rushed through that entire speech with one breath. She was clearly nervous about something, and it was adorable.
“You’re amazing, Luce. This is-The entire thing is all just amazing.” His mind was truly blown by her effort and how well it all turned out.
The blonde fidgeted. “I did it because today is important. Today things change, like our relationship.”
NaLu Angst Week Day 1 (super late)
This is REALLY late, I know. I’m sorry about that, but in truth, I had no intention of joining this week before.
The idea only came to me a few days ago when I started getting addicted to making GIF’s (I’ve got a problem).
Before I knew what was happening, I had already made days 1-3.
So I thought, why not do them all, then?
This is my first time doing artwork about NaLu, so I’m unsure about it.
Please let me know what you think! 😉
Operation Get the Girl Chapter 6
Coffee went well. The coffee took place 3 days after the ball, and the space was good for the both of them. Of course, the anxiety was killing Natsu during those days but there still was peace from a little bit of space.
Lucy was very blunt with him. She outright stated that she had no intention of dating Natsu, and that she would like a little space. However, that didn’t negate the fact that she still loved Natsu as her best friend and wants to keep that friendship. Natsu agreed with her, not really knowing what else to do.
After the two got that out of the way, the awkwardness slowly left the air. With each joke Natsu would tell, each laugh Lucy let out, and each crazy story either of them told, it slowly started to feel like nothing changed between them. But Natsu knew better.
He savored these moments, fully aware that for a while they won’t come very often. Natsu had no regrets, though. His love for Lucy was unwavering. Also, he had time. They were all still young. Just because Gray and Lucy were dating didn’t mean that they were getting married. Plus, most teenage relationships didn’t even last.
So Natsu, my homeboy, if you knew teenage relationships don’t last then why did you try to get with Lucy?
Natsu ignored his logical side, like usual.
Currently in Fairy Tail, 2 years have passed since Lucy and Natsu got that coffee. Gray and Lucy were still very much together and very much in love. The dragon slayer was still determined, though. He never let Gray best him. Whether it be fighting or a competition, Natsu always tried to come out on top. In Natsu’s opinion, he always did. The rest of Fairy Tail might have a different story. Nevertheless, Natsu wasn’t going to let Gray take Lucy from him.
“Yo Natsu? Where’s your almost girlfriend and her boyfriend?”
Natsu was sitting at the bar in Fairy Tail drinking whatever Mirajane gave him, he honestly didn’t know. Ever since the ball, the guild teased Natsu about his epic failure. He knew it was friendly, but it was also annoying.
“That was 2 years ago Cana,” he seethed, full of salt. “And they’re on a mission.”
“Yeah, a ‘mission’.” Cana made air quotes with her fingers. “Like any of us believe that, or wouldn’t you like to, Natsu?”
She nudged his shoulder while Natsu called for Mirajane.
“Yes?”
“Give me whatever’s strongest.”
“Atta boy, Natsu!” A very obviously drunk Cana shrieked. “Finally becoming a man, I’m so proud.”
He intended to down the drink, but when the mystery alcohol actually entered his mouth, he spit it out.
“What is this?! This is awful! How can you drink this crap, Cana?!”
“Practice,” she slurred in response before taking his drink. He stood up and began to leave the building.
“Where you going?” Cana asked him, then continued to chug his drink.
“To brush my teeth for 20 minutes,” he shuddered. The flavor was the worst thing he’s ever tasted; why would Mirajane let him drink that? I’ve been betrayed, he thought with another shudder. He heard both of the girls laughing behind him and he hung his head low.
What’s happened to me? I’m Natsu freaking Dragneel. I’m as kickass as they come! Why am I being all pathetic?!
Natsu opened the doors to the guild hall to see Gray and Lucy.
“Hey, we’re back and I’m freaking exhausted,” Lucy began. “I’d give you a hug Natsu but I’m really sweaty right now so I owe you one later.”
“I want a hug!” Gray said while stretching his arms out.
“I’ve already given you like 10 hugs in the past hour,” she whined.
“Yeah well I want one now since you’re all sweaty.”
Lucy laughed. “That’s pretty nasty, dude.”
“Only for you, sweet Lucy~.”
“Shut up,” Lucy droned. Natsu just stood there awkwardly, realizing that he had either been forgotten or ignored. He sneaked out of there before he died from awkwardness. Being the third wheel of your best friend/crush and your rival sucks.
Yeah, this is why I’m pathetic.

I 100% strongly suggest you listen to the song before or while you read this chapter. It definitely sets the mood. It’s called Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx.
“Of course.” Gray reluctantly obliged. Lucy wrapped her arms around Natsu’s neck. He swayed to the beat of the song, and the two just reveled in the moment.
“Oceans apart day after day
And I slowly go insane
I hear your voice on the line
but it doesn’t stop the pain”
“You know, I love this song.” Lucy mumbled into Natsu’s chest. He had a hard time believing that it was real; everything seemed so perfect. Lucy was in his arms, and it felt so right.
“I’m surprised. A song you love that you haven’t blasted into my ear at least 20 times?” Natsu teased.
“Oh shut up.” Lucy giggled. The vibrations of her giggle made Natsu’s heart flutter. I never want this to end.
“It’s called Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx. I don’t play it too often, but it’s definitely a special song.”
“Speaking of special, Lucy…I need to tell you something.” His voice was shaky, but Natsu wasn’t going to let the nerves get to him again.
“Did something happen? What is it, Natsu?” Lucy looked up at him with her glistening chocolate eyes. The way she looked at him with such care and love, he couldn’t help but to fall in love with her all over again.
“I am completely and utterly in love with you,” he whispered. His words were tender and his touch was soft.
“Is this a joke? Please let this be a joke,” Lucy asked apprehensively. She took a small step backwards.
Natsu solemnly shook his head. He had a gut feeling-especially after that response-that all would not end in his favor.
“I took for granted all the times
That I thought would last somehow
I hear the laughter, I taste the tears
But I can’t get near you now”
“Natsu you fully well know my feelings for Gray. I came to this ball with him for a reason.” She completely tore away from Natsu.
“I…Why would you do this?!” Natsu saw that it was taking everything within her not to cry. Unlike him, she was fighting back the tears. He just let them fall.
“Did you ever care about me as a friend, or was I just a crush?” She was hurt; after overthinking Natsu’s confession, he could tell that she was jumping to wild conclusions. The last thing Natsu wanted was for him to hurt her, or for her to think that Natsu would ever intentionally hurt her.
“Of course. I was never fake. I truly do love you as my best friend, but I also love you as more than that.”
At this point, the two were attracting attention. Gray noticed and rushed over as quick as possible.
“What’s going on and why the hell is Lucy crying?” Gray’s speech was bitter and directed at Natsu, but Lucy was the one who responded.
“I’ll explain later.” Lucy turned to Natsu. “Wanna meet for coffee in a couple days?”
“Yeah, see you there Luce.” Natsu left the scene with all eyes glued on him. The dragon slayer couldn’t bring himself to care.
He thought confessing would bring a burden of his shoulders, and in a way, it did. However, that burden was replaced with the burden of rejection.
Natsu was sitting in a tree, reflecting on what happened. He hoped and prayed that Lucy was okay and processing what went down well. The boy also hoped that he didn’t ruin her special night. Through it all, Natsu still loved Lucy. He promised to keep her safe and protect her at all times, even if she didn’t love him back.
The day ended on a very low note. Yes, there still was time for Natsu to win her over, but in his depressed state, it was hard for him to think of the positive. All he knew was that no matter what, he would always be there for Lucy.
“Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you”

Day One: Shadows (AU)
Lucy’s POV
Ever since my mother died I started to believe in strange things. Not really the paranormal per say but something like that. I was 5 years old when she died so I didn’t really understand it. I just assumed that she would come home one day; she never did.
After her death was when I started to notice strange occurrences. The time I couldn’t sleep for instance, I had always been afraid of thunder storms and my mother would be there to console me. She would play this music box I owned that had a dragon saving a princess on it, weird right? It was always calm me down. Well after she died and I was afraid the music would start playing. Yeah I know what you’re thinking, “that’s so creepy!” Well not to me.
It reminded me that somehow she was still here. As I grew older I realized that telling people these stories would freak them out, so I kept it all to myself.
On my 18th birthday I moved to Magnolia and decided to go to university. I had gotten a job at a local club called Fairy Tail. Everyone there was like family and I wasn’t sure if I was going to fit in. I found out that most of them went to Magnolia University too.
They welcomed me and I met so many amazing people. There was one person in particular that I became very close with. His name was Natsu Dragneel. I will say at first his pink colored hair threw me off but then he smiled and I felt something. Something I haven’t felt since my mother died; happiness. Of course I made other friends as well. Levy, Juvia, Erza, Cana, Mirajane and Lisanna as well as Gray, Elfman, Loke, Gajeel, Laxus, Gildarts and our boss Makarov.
Loke is a flirt and is convinced we will date one day. Levy is a total bookworm just like me and she’s dating Gajeel which at first I thought was strange since they are complete opposites but I soon realized that they are cute together. Elfman, Mirajane, and Lisanna are siblings and they’re all very sweet. Laxus is Makarov’s grandson who is actually really sweet but acts like a total dick. Gildarts is Cana’s dad and fawns over her every second which annoys her. Erza is… well… scary! She’s super sweet but can turn into a demon in a split second. Juvia and Gray are dating and she is obsessed with him. Gray and Natsu are always fighting but then again Natsu fights with every guy we work with.
I can’t really explain why Natsu and I became so close because it just happened. He slowly became my best friend and we told each other everything. I trusted him with my life. Slowly but surely I fell in love with him and I was too afraid to tell him. I feared that he would reject me and we wouldn’t be friends anymore.
Flashback
Natsu was walking me back to my apartment since we both don’t own a car. He doesn’t like when I walk alone in the dark… which is cute.
“Hey Luce?” Natsu said. He looked nervous for some reason.
“Yes, Natsu?” I said. He started to play with his scarf and he only does that when he’s nervous. “Natsu? What’s wrong? Why are you so nervous?” I asked.
“Uh… well… um… fuck! Why is this so hard?!” He shouted.
“Natsu its okay you can tell me anything!” I said. He stopped walking and turned to me. I saw that we were across the street from Magnolia Park. It’s our favorite park.
“C'mon lets go sit under our tree! Then you can tell me what’s wrong!” I said. A few months ago Natsu and I carved our names in a huge Sakura tree we found. He smiled at me so I went to run across the street and waited for him to follow.
I heard him yell, “LUCY LOOK OUT!” And that’s when I saw the headlights of the car that was coming towards me. I stood frozen in the middle of the street not knowing what to do. As the car was about to hit me something pushed me out of the way. I heard a thud and when I looked up I screamed.
“NATSU! NO! NO! NOOOO!" I screamed. I saw his body lying in the street… not moving. I ran over to him and thankfully he was breathing.
"Natsu? Can you hear me?! P-Please o-open your e-eyes!” I yelled while crying. He slowly opened his eyes and smiled weakly at me.
“I-It’s gonna b-be o-okay… I-I’m gonna g-go c-call for h-help.” I said as tears streamed down my face. As I reached for my phone Natsu grabbed my hand.
“N-No L-Luce… I-I d-don’t t-think… I-I’m g-gonna m-make i-it…” He said weakly.
“WHAT?! Natsu no… I need t-to call f-for h-help…!” I stuttered.
“N-No L-Lucy. I-It’s o-okay…” He said trying to reassure me. “I-I w-would r-rather die here w-with you…. t-then a-alone in an h-hospital…” He said. He smiled at me and squeezed my hand. At this point I was balling and my heart was breaking.
“Lucy… I-I wanted… t-to t-tell you… t-that I-I… love y-you a-and y-you’re everything… t-to m-me… p-please don’t c-cry… s-smile f-for me!” He said and smiled that special smile… the one that made me feel happy. I smiled through the tears but the smile was insincere.
“I… l-love you too N-Natsu! S-So much you changed m-my l-life and I-I could never thank y-you enough f-for it! B-But I CANT LIVE WITHOUT YOU! PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME!” I screamed hyperventilating from crying so hard. His breathing began to slow and his eyes started to lose that fire inside of them.
“I-I’ll always b-be… with y-you…” He mumbled. His breathing became raspy.
I leaned down and kissed him… and then he was gone. I was holding him crying and screaming for him to come back to me; but just like my mom… he never did.
End Flashback
That was over a year ago and I have been so depressed. I could never love someone other than him. Everyone from Fairy Tail tries to cheer me up but I know they are all sad themselves. I took Happy, his blue cat… yes blue. It’s like having a part of Natsu with me.
Since that night there has been this shadow in the corner of my room. I thought it was from my dresser but when I moved it… the shadow was still there. It looks like a person and I’d like to think that it’s Natsu.
Tonight is one of those nights when I'm… afraid. When Natsu was alive he was there to calm me down during thunder storms and now that’s he gone I don’t know what to do.
I still have that music box but it hasn’t played in a long time. I got up to close the curtains and curled up under my blanket.
Happy jumped up and plopped down near my head. As I was starting to fall asleep I heard something… no I heard… music. I looked at my dresser and my music box was playing. And like I said before it doesn’t scare me.
I saw the shadow looming over the music box and thought it was my mind playing tricks on me until it moved its arm and touched my cheek… I felt it. It's real. I started to shake because I was so scared. As I was trying to get off my bed I heard someone say my name.
“Lucy…its okay…” I heard it say… no Natsu say!
“N-Natsu…?” I whispered. I smiled as I reached for the shadow… as I was about to touch it he disappeared. I pulled my hand back and started to cry… no sob. It felt like he died all over again and I thought my heart couldn’t break anymore… but I was wrong.
I heard a thud from the corner and I jumped. I looked over to see the shadow standing there and my heart started beating faster. I realized he was here and he was protecting me. The music box was still playing.
Before I shut my eyes I saw the shadow closing the music box and say, “Sweet dreams Lucy… from your mother and me.
I hope you enjoyed it! I’m sorry if it isn’t that good because I am just getting back into writing but hopefully the rest of the chapters will be better.

@nalu-angst-week - Bonus Day Shattered Dreams 6/25/18
“Are you ready for this Lucy?”
The blonde turns to her Maid of Honor and nods, “Yeah Levy, I think I am, just a little nervous.”
The brunette giggles, “Well that’s normal.”
“Not for me,” Lucy mumbles, “you know what happened with my last fiancé.”
“Natsu’s not like Hibiki, he’d never do that to you.”
“You mean I just haven’t caught him cheating on me yet…”
Another knock at the door, “May I come in?”
“Yeah Leo,” Levy responds with a laugh, “we’re already dressed,”
Walking in, “Well, that wouldn’t matter to me,” he pushes his glass up with a smirk.
“Thanks for walking me down the aisle Leo.”
“Hey, you’re like a little sister to me so of course I’d do anything for you,” giving Lucy a quick peck on the cheek, “you look beautiful by the way.”
Lucy blushes, “Thanks.”
Looking at his watch, “We’ve still got about an hour till we need to head downstairs, but I wanted to check on you.”
“Levy and I are just chatting,” she smiles, “I almost wanna slap myself for picking a summer wedding, “it’s almost 85 degrees outside.”
He chuckles, “yes, we wouldn’t want your makeup running. I think I’ll go check on everyone else now, be back in time,” kissing her cheek again, “you be ready.”
“I will.”
The two girls start talking about the reception when they hear a loud commotion in the hotel hallway and run to see what’s going on. A couple door’s down, Gray is holding back a screaming Leo in front of Natsu’s room. “Fucking bastard! How dare you do this to her now!”
“What the hell is going on!” Lucy rushes over and when she see’s why Leo is so pissed she shrieks, hands gripping to the frame just to keep from falling. “This can’t be happening!” Levy rushes to her friend’s side to steady her. “I-I can’t go through this again,” muttering, “not again… not again…”
But Leo is still screaming too. “I’m gonna kill you for cheating on her, do you hear me! And Jenny, you’re supposed to be Lucy’s friend!”
“Levy, get me out of here,” Lucy starts running down the hall, “I gotta get out of here!”
“I gotta get out of here… I gotta get out of here…”
“Baby, wake up.”
The blonde thrashes at the person holding her arms. “No! Not again!”
“Lucy!”
With a scream, her eyes pop open with the most terrified look he’d ever seen as she scrambles to a sitting position and pushes herself against the headboard. “Not again, I can’t…” burying her face in her hands, “I can’t…” Natsu gathers her into his lap as she continues to mutter the same thing over and over.
“Shhh,” stroking her hair, “is it wedding jitters, everything is taken care of, it should be…”
She shakes her head, “not that… y-you wouldn’t, cheat… on me… would you?”
“Lucy of course I’m not gonna do that…”
“Because that’s what happened to me before…”
“Wait, what are you talking about?”
“I never told you how Hibiki and I broke up… because it was too painful…”
“Did he cheat on you?” she can only nod. “When did you find out?”
Bursting back into a full sobbing session, “On my wedding day!”
Natsu blinks, stunned at what he’s just been told. Part of him fills with a desire to find and throttle this guy, but the immediate concern was the weeping blonde in his lap. “Lucy, baby,” he coaxes her face up, “I will never hurt you like that.”
“I couldn’t take it if it happened again,” burying her face in her hands, “not again, not again…”
He takes a moment to breath, trying to think of what to say. Sure, he could get upset that she would think he could do something like that to her, but clearly, this deeply affected her. “Lucy, I swear it won’t. Please,” pulling her hands away from her face, “do you want me to stay by your side the whole time?” searching her eyes and trying to convey the sincerity behind his words. “I’ll do it if it’ll make you feel better,” giving her his goofy grin, “Fuck the tradition of not seeing the bride, I just want you to feel okay.” That brings a slight smile to her face.
She wants to believe him, “I’m sorry, Natsu,” Lucy tries to calm her heaving and push back the doubts still screaming in here head, “I don’t think you would… it’s just…”
“Don’t be sorry,” caressing her face, “I would absolutely loose my mind if you did that to me, and I don’t know if I’d recover,” softly kissing her lips, he coaxes her to lie down again, and cuddles her to his chest. “Want me to beat him up?”
“No,” she sniffles, but he can hear the smile in her voice as she snuggles deeper into his arms.
Kissing her forehead, “Get some sleep baby.”
“Mmhmm.” If she makes it to the alter, then she’ll breathe again…
Lost Chance
Pairing: NaLu Word Count: 2,802 Prompt: Obstacles A/N: This is late, but this one-shot is written for day six of Nalu angst week. Also, this is a modern au.
Watery eyes stared at the polaroid in his hand. Natsu sighed and slid the polaroid into the pocket of his dress pants. He leaned back against the wall and blinked back the tears that formed in his eyes. Natsu felt guilty. He knew should be supportive of his dear friend’s wedding, but there was an issue preventing him from being happy. Natsu was in love with the bride.

@nalu-angst-week - Broken prompt 6/24/18
This is portions of a longer story found here X which does have a happier ending but also more graphic suicidal details. Warning- Rated M, 18yr+ for swearing and suicidal language. @random-rave
She sits on her bathroom floor holding the razor to her upper arm. Why had it come to this? Her life had finally been perfect, free from her father’s rule, with so many friends from all over the kingdom, it was the happiest the blonde had ever been in her whole life… And then it all came crashing down around her. Well, she couldn’t say she didn’t still have all those friends or wasn’t a part of something special, but the most important part of her life seemed over and that made all the rest of it meaningless.
“Why Natsu?” taking a deep swig from her bottle, chocking between the sobs.
Nothing mattered any more to the blonde summoner, not her appearance or health, nor the state of her apartment. Trash was piled around because she was too tired or drunk most of the time to take it out. She hadn’t changed her clothes or even bathed in days and hell in her mind, she was already dead, her body just needed to figure that out.
‘You disgust me! You’re weak, you always hold us down! I don’t know what I ever saw in you!’ his hurtful words circled endlessly through her mind. ‘So pathetic…’ “I am pathetic.”
Dragging the sharpened metal across the surface of her skin, fresh beads of blood break through and trickle down her flesh onto the tiled surface already littered with drying stains. Her eyes of cold and impassiveness roll back a little from the sting, but it’s just physical pain. She’ll do anything to dull the emotional turmoil she’s feeling, anything to deaden her heart ache. But sadly, the pain grows weaker and she must cut again, and again just to get that mind-numbing sensation back…
‘Look at you, you ain’t as pretty as you think you are. In fact, you’re getting fat, maybe you need to lay off all the junk food!’
Looking down at her naked form once curvy and vivacious but now sunken and gaunt, with all the fresh cuts, the healing scars marring her thighs, and arms; the more she looks, the more depressed she becomes. If only the hurting will just go away! Sobbing aloud, she takes another swig from her sake and puts the blade back to her arm. But the more she drinks, the more intoxicated she becomes, and the less of a control she has on what she’s doing to herself.
She fails to realize the slashes to her arms are getting deeper…..

It took Makarov 6 months and after consulting with other wizards about what kind of spells could possibly cause someone’s personality to change like in Natsu’s case he finally believes he has the answer and more importantly a way to reverse it. He asks Gray and Erza to bring Natsu to his office one afternoon.
Natsu walks in like any other day, “You need something Gramps?”
“Gray, Erza grab him!”
As the two mages grab his arms, he’s screaming at them, “Hey what they hell are you guys doing to me!”
Makarov begins to chant, “Spásei To Xórki Tou Mísous!”
Natsu drops to his knees and clutches his head screaming for several agonizing minutes. Finally, his hands drop to his sides and he utters, “Lucy… Fuck, what have I done…”
“Natsu? Don’t blame yourself, someone put that spell on you; you couldn’t control yourself.”
“I,” jumping to his feet, “I’ve gotta go,” and bolts out the door.
“Lucy!!” he screams as he jumps through her window. "Lucy!! Where are you??“ No response. He frantically searches the apartment, empty bottles of alcohol litter the place, and her usually clean and organized apartment looked like a hurricane had blown through it. Finding the bathroom door closed and locked he bangs his fists on it. "Lucy, open the door! Lucy, can you hear me??!! LUCY!!!!” Still no response, he hears nothing… absolutely nothing…but smells; ‘Blood!’.
Natsu panics and breaks the door down; rushing in only to find his fiancé’s crumpled and naked body on the floor in a pool of tacky red liquid. He sees the razor blade in one hand and the fresh gashes still seeping on her arms. "Oh, no, Luce, no…” he whimpers. Seeing all the marks on her arms and thighs he now knows why she wore the long sleeves… His heart shatters as he cradles her body, ‘this is all my fault!’ Her pulse is very weak, her breathing shallow, her lips already turning a shade of blue, “Lucy, please don’t die on me!”
Bundling her up in a blanket he runs as fast as he can to the guild. Screaming for Wendy to follow him he heads straight for the infirmary and places her on a bed.
“Wendy, you’ve got to help her please!”
By this time Makarov, Levy, Erza, and Gray have also rushed into the room. They gasp when they see her condition. Levy has tears in her eyes, “Lu-chan..” The cuts and scars mar parts of her body, the gashes to her arms are the worst and she’s lost a lot of weight, almost as bad as a walking skeleton. Her once smooth white skin has an ashy look to it.
“Please tell me she’ll be okay!” Natsu continues to scream
“I can stop the bleeding but with that much blood loss, I don’t know when she’ll recover.”
“Lucy please don’t leave me!” he weeps on her chest. ‘Mavis, what have I done!’
Nalu Angst Week, Day 5
Sorry this ones late, and off my phone so I can’t do the “Read More” thing. Busy this weekend. Day 6 will probably be up really late tonight and Day 7 really late tomorrow cuz I work double shifts tomorrow.
Also my apologies to the Queen of Angst, @sweetmemories2606, this one is a little on the softer angst side, because I wanted to pick an unconventional response to the prompt.
Summary: Natsu is losing his mind; it’s the only explanation for the dragon slayer over his behavior. The alternative is too complicated.

“Lost”
Flashing lights greeted them wherever they went. For all the grief that Fairy Tail had gotten over the years from the kingdom, they certainly were celebrated now. Particularly the members of Team Natsu - Gray, cool and aloof, drove the women across Fiore as a hero (something which made Juvia nearly lose her mind); Erza, a bonafide warrior princess, who had always been rather popular but since skyrocketed; Wendy, with her cheerful little girl charm, won the hearts of everyone she met. Even Natsu himself, who like Erza, had always been well-known, enjoyed the spotlight as Salamander of Fairy Tail. The one who benefited most though, was certainly Lucy.
And that was what was gripping his nerves at the moment, watching from across the guild hall as his partner was once again hounded by media personnel. It didn’t matter how many times she promised she was an exclusive columnist and model for Sorcerer Weekly, every newspaper and magazine across Fiore wanted to have Lucy on their covers. Fairy Tail had to learn the hard way that some of them would do it without her permission either, and worst of all, he’d been forced to sleep at his own house after a few snapshots were taken of him both sneaking in Lucy’s bedroom window and, even worse, in bed with his arms wrapped around her. His best friend had been furious, whining about her love life’s reputation being crushed following rumors that the two of them were “sleeping together” (upon his insistence that they were, in fact, doing such a thing, Gray, Gajeel, and Cana had burst into laughter and Mira had to quickly subdue a fuming Erza who looked ready to kill. Lisanna and Juvia had hurriedly informed him of what “sleeping together” actually implied and Natsu assured everyone present that he and Lucy were not actually doing that).
But that whole ordeal had been his descent into the madness he currently found himself in. First of all, his brain had taken to using every dirty act he’d ever heard Macao and Wakaba talk about and imagined them with Lucy’s face. And he knew that he really liked it, which sort of weirded him out. It was his best friend after all, the girl he had saved from perverted pigs dozens of times. Obviously he knew he was a boy and he knew he had needs (oh the older members of Fairy Tail had reminded him of that several times), but naughty thoughts about Lucy made him feel weird. And to make matters worse, it wasn’t the only strange behavior he found himself with around her. No, it was only the beginning.
The instant that he didn’t know where Lucy was, he practically lost any sense of time or space. He always sort of panicked, felt it bubbling in his throat and he didn’t know why. More than once, he’d found himself wandering toward the bathroom in Fairy Tail a few minutes after Lucy had announced her need to use it, and he was pretty sure the entire guild had picked up on that by now. He’d always been protective of her since Phantom Lord kidnapped her, and hyper-aware of creeps since the first catcall he witnessed (oh the poor bastard who didn’t notice the infamous wizard Salamander at her side). But something in him had changed, and he wasn’t really sure when. The protectiveness had clearly deepened, so much so that he wasn’t himself when Lucy wasn’t near. And the moment he found her, he always had to touch her; he couldn’t ever explain why, it was just reassurance he needed.
Gajeel and Wendy were certainly among the first to notice his changed behavior. Mostly because in their presence - especially Gajeel’s - Natsu was about ten times worse than normal. When they were present, he always had a hand on her. Always subtly smelling her to make sure the metal mouth wasn’t rubbing off on her, even when he was very clearly involved with Levy. Gray had always been a rival to him, but the one day he walked into the guild and found the two of them alone at a table, he’d burned up furiously and nearly throttled the ice wizard (probably would’ve too, if Juvia hadn’t had the same idea toward Lucy, and the two collided before they had reached their target).
Sure he was hot-headed, but he’d never been the jealous type. Every man who looked at Lucy ignited deep anger within him, and he couldn’t help but glower. He let a magazine stand on fire once because it had issues of Sorcerer Weekly featuring “Lucy Heartfilia, the Star of Fairy Tail, bares ALL!” and a group of attractive young men were discussing how they might catch her attention. Gray - bearing the brunt of most of this and it wasn’t to do with his crush on Lucy when she first joined Fairy Tail at all - was the first to suggest to Natsu he might be jealous of the people giving Lucy all the attention she has been getting.
He most certainly was not jealous. No he didn’t get upset whenever Lucy wasn’t around, he didn’t practically ignore everyone else in favor for her when she was in the room, and he didn’t purposely sleep in bed with her to try and cover her in his own campfire-like scent both because he liked it with her vanilla essence and to keep other males away from her. Simply, the answer was just that Natsu was losing his mind and it seemed to revolve around Lucy.
No, it wasn’t like he felt a part of him was missing when she wasn’t around. At all.
He was losing his mind because of her, but she never seemed to notice that she was the reason why.
Natsu looked up when Lucy entered the room; he knew it the way his entire body relaxed, yet spurred to life, the moment that he smelled her. He had been sitting the guild hall, trying to control his impulse to run and search for her and make sure she was safe, when he’d known she had just been with Levy.
What if something happened to her and you weren’t there?
Shut up, it’s the library. But the voice in his head spoke what he was truly thinking.
“Natsu!” Lucy called, and his entire body reacted to the sound of her voice saying his name. He jumped to his feet and raced to her side.
“Got a job for us today, Lucy?” Any time with her was time he didn’t have to be worrying about her.
Her expression deflated his elation though.
“Sorry, Natsu,” she only sounded partially apologetic though. “This really cute guy asked me on a date yesterday! So I was coming to tell you not to take any jobs until after tomorrow, okay?”
“Why?” He groaned sadly, but on the inside he was prickling. Okay, on the outside he was too, as he realized his clenched fist had slightly caught fire. And he might be scowling instead of frowning based on the smug look Gajeel was giving him.
“Because I actually really like this guy and I want it to work out and you know… I want it to work out while still having you as my partner. Okay Natsu? Thanks.”
He grew agitated as she walked away. Another date huh? He thought she was done with those. Oh well, there was nothing he could do if “Happy” found a job that he just had to take, because Lucy would certainly want to come if they found one.
Yes, he clearly had to just be losing his mind. Anything else was absurd.
NaLu Angst Week 2018: Day 5
Day 5: Insanity
Lucy didn’t care anymore. How many times? How many times had she watched Natsu throw himself at their attacker, having no idea how strong they were? How many times, had he eaten their opponents magic, only to have it almost kill him. How many times had a blast knocked him to the ground, leaving Lucy to wonder if this maybe time he wasn’t going to get up again? How many times had he done it all protecting Lucy?
She couldn’t take it anymore.
This time, she was going to be the hero. This time, she would protect Natsu.
So before Natsu could even throw his next attack at the enemy in front of them, Lucy was throwing herself forwards.
She put all her anger towards Natsu into her attacks. Without even thinking about it, she opened two gates. Loke, and Sagittarius.
“Give him everything you got, guys!”
Lucy pulled out her whip, activating the Fleuve D’etoile, and completely lashed out, letting out a rage-filled battle cry as she flailed her whip with all of her strength. The dark guild member in front of her was launching frantic attacks in a panic.
Lucy didn’t even bother dodging them. She let them hit her, pure adrenaline driving her forwards. Adrenaline and anger. Anger that Natsu put himself through this every time in order to keep her safe. She would make him understand how it felt to sit back and feel useless while you watched your friend wear themselves out right in front of you.
Lucy would finish this guy off all by herself.
“Lucy! What are you doing?” Natsu called, panic and confusion in his voice.
“Stay out of it Natsu! I’m handling it myself!” Lucy ordered, her voice icy.
The dark guild member caught her off guard with a particularity strong attack. It hit her right in the gut, and she couldn’t help but drop to the floor.
Pain raced through her body, and she felt blood leaking from the wound.
She ignored it all, forcing herself to stand, like Natsu would, and attacked with her whip yet again.
“Lucy! Stop it!” Natsu screamed. But Lucy knew he didn’t dare interfere, not with her standing so close to their enemy. Because if he did attack, he risked hitting her.
Lucy caught the mage by the ankle with her whip, pulling his leg out from under him. Meanwhile, Sagittarius and Leo continued to barrage him with attacks.
He was almost knocked out now, Lucy could tell, she just needed one final blow.
She grabbed a third key, ignoring the panicked cry’s from Loke and Sagittarius, who were trying to warn her that she didn’t have enough magic left.
“Open, gate of the twins! Gemini!” Lucy’s vision blurred as soon as their gate opened, and she was sure she was in the negatives when it came to magic power. But she didn’t care. Natsu did this all the time, so she could too.
“LUCY! YOU’RE GONNA GET YOURSELF KILLED!” Natsu warned frantically.
She continued to ignore him as she positioned herself with Gemini, despite their warnings to stop.
Natsu’s eyes widened as he recognized the pose. His stomach twisted, knowing there was no way Lucy had enough magic left for that.
“LUCY STOP!”
“URANO METRIA!”
The room exploded with light, and all that could be heard was the enemies screams, until the light faded, and he passed out.
Lucy gave a proud smile. See? She could handle way more than people gave her credit for.
The last thing she heard was Natsu running towards her, as all three gates shut, and Lucy hit the floor.
