Living in Nepal
I was scared. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and facing my last semester in college, thatās all I or anyone else could think about. Ā I cringed every time someone asked me the dreaded question, āso, what are you gonna do?ā I wanted to scream that I had NO IDEA what I wanted or even what I was qualified to do. Ā The only thing I knew for certain was that I needed to get out of the US. Iād volunteered as an assistant English teacher at the International Rescue Committee for seven years and loved working with refugees from all over the world. I was especially impressed with the Bhutanese who seemed to have some secret to staying positive and lighthearted in the face of the worst kind of situations. I fell in love with them. Ā So I had a crazy idea that Iād go to Nepal and work on-site in the refugee camps with the people who had left such a large impression on me. Ā I Ā didnāt have any concrete plans. I had one contact in the entire country. Now here I am in Nepal and I have no intention of leaving. Ā
