Nothing Like The First Time
Chapter 5
«I haven’t been in your house for ages» Kelli said, sitting between the boys in the back seat. Hillary and Cassie hoped for Charles or Dave to throw her out of the moving car, but again, then they would be charged for murder and they didn’t want that. «I’m so sorry I didn’t get to meet your wife Mr.Haywood» Kelli continued «it would be so cool to meet her and ask her how it is to be married so young» «oh» was the only answer Dave managed to say to her.
«Do you still have that huge swing in the garden Hillary?» Kelli’s mouth went on and on. «yes we do» «ah, I love that swing» as Kelli said that Cassie stopped the car, «seriously Kelli?» She turned around and faced Kelli «you have been such a bitch to Hillary for the past three years, and now you are acting all best friends. Cut the act Kelli» Cassie were furious «but I» Kelli felt awkward, sitting between to men who stared at her and not the good way «just drive» she said and folded her hands rolling her eyes. «That shut her up» Cassie said out loud and turned the radio on and drove back to Hillary’s house.
«You have to be nice to me now your parents are here» Kelli said as they stopped the car in the driveway «I might have to claim and Oscar after this» Hillary opened her door and glued on a fake smile. «I’ve set the table outside» Linda greeted them as they came in «how lovely» Kelli made her way through the house and out in the garden «man I hate her» Hillary took a deep breath and she felt a hand on her back «calm down» Dave smiled «yeah» she answered. She were surprised Cassie and Charles weren’t all over each other, she could see the looks they sent between parents looking. «Tell me, how did you start music?» Linda held a big plate of home made cookies passing it around to the guests. «My brother is a musician and we had a band since we could stand up straight. Then I met Dave in middle school and he played the piano, guitar, drums, ukulele and yeah you name it. So we had to drag him with us. We both finished college but we didn’t want to stay in Atlanta, so we moved to Nashville ‘cos my brother said that would be the best for us if we wanted to make music.» Charles explained «I might help you out» Linda smiled «you have any songs?» «We have many songs» Charles were excited «wanna sing yourself or give away?» «Mom» Hillary said, «what?» «Oh it’s okay Hillary» Dave smiled «both actually» he took a bite of his cookie. «I might talk to a record label for you. I can tell you guys are truly talented and you are going somewhere» «that would be lovely Mrs.Scott» Dave smiled and looked at Hillary. «Call me Linda» she said and laughed.
«So Dave, you are married, what about you Charles?» Kelli interrupted the whole music talk «I have a girlfriend» Charles smiled but no one caught the eye he gave Cassie except Hillary. «Oh, where is she?» Kelli wouldn’t give up and now her mom also got curious «That’s a shame, Kelli here is single» she said and smiled to her daughter, Cassie almost choked as she took a bite of her cookie. «She is» before he could answer Cassie kicked him under the table «we just became a couple, so right now we are taking things slow» Charles smiled. «Taking things slow al right» Hillary said so silent only Dave beside her heard it and he laughed a little. «Changing the subject, who is ready for prom?» Cassie’s mom looked at the girls with stars in her eyes. «I am, I’ve had my dress ready for weeks» Kelli clapped her hands and she got a proud look from her mom. Hillary and Cassie rolled their eyes and thought Kelli and her mom were equally stupid. «That is great Kelli. I believe Cassie and Hillary are looking for their prom dresses this week?» Cassie’s mom hinted to her daughter and best friend. «Year, totally» Hillary nodded «yes, we are taking time after school every day this week. If that is okay I’m borrowing Hillary off course, like everyday after school» Cassie looked at Linda «sure, but if you need help, us moms really want to help out» «We’ll remember mom» Hillary raised from her chair «I just need to get a glass of water, this lemonade actually made med thirsty, sorry mom» she took her glass and bumped in to Dave as she did. «Do you mind showing me the way to the bathroom?» Dave asked and stood up «no problem, follow me» Hillary almost ran in to the house with Dave right behind her. As they were out of sight he pushed her towards the wall and placed his hands one in shoulder height and one right beside Hillary’s head. He looked her deeply in her eyes and she felt her heart raise «I’ve wanted to kiss you since I saw you in Church» he said and came closer, their lips were close but not close enough «same» she whispered wanting to throw herself at him. Dave turned his head towards the door and when no one came he turned again and kissed Hillary hard on her lips, he took her by surprise and he noticed that she tried to kiss him back before he pulled away with a cheesy smile «bathroom» he said. «Hum, yeah» Hillary tried to get herself together. She opened the door and Dave pushed her in to the bathroom and then he locked the door behind them. «Someone will come look for us» Hillary’s voice shook. «Kelli will come look for us» she whispered and Dave stepped closer to her wrapping his arms around her «I just need to hold you» he kissed her forehead and then holding her tight smelling her hair. «Hillary!» Her moms voice broke their hug and a small hint of panic filled Hillary’s body «yeah» she got away from Dave’s arms and unlocked the door «yeah» she shouted back closing the door silent behind her and heard Dave lock it from the inside «there you are» when her mom came in to the hallway Hillary managed to pretend she came out from another room. «Yeah, I thought I heard a noise from there,» she pointed her thumb to the door she was standing in front of «but it was just the wind I guess» she smiled nervously «I see, Kelli and her family are leaving now, I thought you might want to come and say goodbye?» As her mom said those words Hillary just wanted to run out to them and push Kelli in to the car «sure» she said with the biggest smile. «You don’t have to seem so happy about it Hillary, what is going on between the two of you?» Linda asked and followed her daughter outside. «Nothing» Hillary lied «not good enough answer, we’ll talk about it after» «yes ma’am».
«Thank you for having us Mrs Scott» Kelli gave Linda a hug while Hillary and Cassie had to try not to throw up by her fake behavior. «Not a problem, come again some other time» «Please don’t» Cassie whispered to Hillary and they tried hard not to laugh. Charles were standing beside them. «Nice to meet you Charles, and please say goodbye to Mr. Haywood for me» Kelli almost gave Charles a hug but Cassie coughed and Kelli took the hint. «Sure will» Charles said polite. As the Cashiola family left Dave came out. «Did you get lost?» Hillary teased him «actually, yeah, big house» he smiled «I know» Hillary laughed. «I guess we’ll have to go as well» Charles looked at the time «Do you mind driving us to our car Cassie?» He looked at her mom and dad while he asked and they nodded «sure, Hillary want to join?» Cassie looked at Hillary’s dad asking «sure she can» he smiled but he could see that his wife didn’t agree «but come back with her straight after» «yes sir» Cassie lead the way to the car.
«Prom dresses huh, you have a date yet?» Charles and Hillary had switched places further down the road, now he was in shotgun with Cassie and Hillary sat in the back holding Dave’s hand. «We decided we’ll go together actually» Cassie smiled at Hillary from the mirror «not a bad idea, hey Dave do they need some more people to keep supervise at prom?» «I can make something work» Dave smiled «then we can be your dates, well that is we can take you home from prom and might have the teacher-student dance» he smiled at Hillary and Charles agreed. «Best solution ever» Cassie cheered. «So, the prom dress shopping» Charles tried «is a girl thing mister. I don’t want you to see my dress before prom» Cassie moved hone of hands from the steering wheel to his knee «okay» he whispered. «We’re here» Cassie pulled up to their car at the Church parking lot. «I guess I’ll see you at school tomorrow then» Dave tucked Hillary’s hair behind her ear «yeah» she looked down but he moved her chin up with his hand and leaned in for a kiss. This time letting Hillary kiss him back. «Hey lovebirds, time to break up» Cassie laid her hand on Hillary’s back «bye» Dave said as they got pulled away from each other.
«Good morning class and welcome to a new week» Dave stood in front of the blackboard, he wore tight black jeans and a white t-shirt that Hillary felt ripping off him. «Mr.Harrison will be gone this week to and the next so you all will just have to settle for me» he smiled and Hillary glanced at Kelli whispering something to her best friend Milly and laughing. «I’ve gotten a list from him so I know you all have a test on Wednesday» «we don’t have to take it?!» one of the football guys yelled «got some bad news for you, it’s a test Wednesday» Dave answered and the sport jocks gave him a bu-hu, Dave just made a bow and got on with the lecture. Hillary loved how he handled the jocks that usually made Mr.Harrison so mad he had to leave the room for ten minutes. «So class, just shut up and listen and Wednesday will be a piece of cake» somehow the whole class went on mute and listening to everything the teacher said.
«One more class» Cassie said during lunch «and we’ll be shopping dresses» she took the last bite of her salad and smiled. «Yeah, mom was way to excited when we had breakfast» «same here, she is so looking forward to shopping with Linda and you» the best friends smiled at each other imitating their moms while taking their trays away from the table. «One more class» Cassie said as she stood outside social studies class, Hillary were headed for music and choir class, this was the only classes they had separate on their schedule. «See you if I survive» Cassie gave Hillary a quick hug.
«Hello, my name is Mr.Haywood and I’ll be teaching this class today. Some of you I have seen in other classes and some of you are new to me. The reason why I have the class today is because the usual teacher had to fill in for Mr.Harrison in another class» Dave said as he noticed Hillary sneaking in two minutes late. «I’ll be teaching this class for three weeks and I expect everyone to be here in time» he looked at Hillary and she noticed the whole class was staring at her «sorry» she smiled and sat down on the nearest chair. «Next time I’ll have to write it down Miss Scott» he smiled back and she felt her heart beat really fast «got it» she answered and took her note book out. «I see on the list that you guys have song writing as an assignment for the month is that correct?» He looked down on his papers and the class mumbled «yes» at the same time. «Lucky for you I do have some experience in that department, have any of you written anything for today?» He scouted out in the classroom for anyone who had their hands up «no one?» He asked when everyone just looked down. «Come on, someone in here has written one song, I don’t care if it is good or bad. Nothing is good or bad in a song really, different people have different feelings towards a song. I can love a song and love the lyrics and then friends can say to me, Dave that song sucks and have bad lyrics» He smiled as he said it «come on you guys, I just need one or two brave students now to come forward with a song. In the end, all of you need to show me a song at the end of the month» He sat back on his chair behind the desk, giving the students a little time to come forward. Hillary took out her little notebook with a lot of songs in it. One time it was green with her name on it, now it was taped together with some pink tape and stickers. She flipped the sides of it and «Home Is Where The Heart Is» one of the first ones she had written popped up. She slowly lifted her hand «Mr.Haywood» she said and he looked at her «yes Miss Scott» he stood up «do you have a song?» «Yeah, well I think I do».
