It’s really interesting how Lupin frames the animosity between Severus and him. This is from Half-Blood Prince, chapter sixteen:
“I neither like nor dislike Severus,” said Lupin. “No, Harry, I am speaking the truth,” he added, as Harry pulled a skeptical expression. “We shall never be bosom friends, perhaps; after all that happened between James and Sirius and Severus, there is too much bitterness there. But I do not forget that during the year I taught at Hogwarts, Severus made the Wolfsbane Potion for me every month, made it perfectly, so that I did not have to suffer as I usually do at the full moon.”
He completely absolves himself from any responsibility. It wasn’t something they did it was something that happened and even then, he himself was not involved in it, it was all James and Sirius. He is actively talking about the bad blood between himself and Severus, and he still can’t admit that he too played a part in it.
It’s just really interesting to note these little ways Lupin portrays himself to appear better than he is, because he’s so desperate to be viewed as a good person.
