The journey that is trying to do NaNoWriMo. The ideas, the breakdowns, the insanity, the moments of enlightenment, the joys and the sorrows, and the plain random ramblings.
I can write other things, but trying to think of anything for Nano? No luck, sigh, maybe this year isn’t the year for me. Or maybe inspiration will come later in the month and I can start something. Maybe it’s because my life isn’t stable enough this year? I dunno, there have been a lot of changes lately. -sigh- at least I’m not having writers block on other things.
Ahaha...why do I never remember to prepare for this? Yesterday was a bust and today is looking the same, but I still want to try. One of these years I’m gonna get through this. At the moment though....-headdesks-
Second verse same as the first. This time I have 2011 attempt to share.
Which incidentally the last time I had wrote anything for it was Nov. 14, almost exactly two years ago, and also maybe about a week and a half, or something like that, before I started roleplaying here on tumblr. Man how time can fly. This one is also longer than 09's.
"Interesting? I almost died back there!" his partener, Angel countered. Artemis looked over at him.
"You're still alvie though,"
"I was this close to dying in there you dolt! You and your damnable demon form were of no help back there!" Angel continuted to rage.
"Hey!" Artemis stopped in his tracks and looked at angel. "I was too of plenty help! You should know by now that I can only sustain that form for so long. Did you want me to pass out? Then I would have been completely useless." Angel stopped as well and looked at his companion.
"You incompetent half demon! If you hadn't of lost your temper in the first plkace we wuldn't have had to fight our way out of there! Couldn't you sense the power they possesed?" Angel sighed. "No of course not, you were too blinded by their insults to stop and think about it." He began to walk once more with out waiting for Artemis. He knew that the half demon was an asset to their team, but sometimes he could do without the iamplusivess and cockiness that he possesed. They were supposed to get information that the group needed to complete the quest they had set out to complete, but the ones they were supossed to question picked up on Artemis' half demon blood and decided to use that to their own advantage. Angel's musings were interruped by the sound of Artemis' footsteps and huffing.
"You know, " he started once he caught u, "I did sense their power, but once you start to insult my mother's integrity, reguardless of the fact that she's a succubus, all bets are off. You just don't get away with that, the same as if someone insulted or hurt my dear Arketa." Angel didn't give any acknowledgement to his words and kept walking in slilence. Artemis huffed once more and did his best to keep up dispite the slight fatigue he was starting to fel from changing forms. Artemis was once to consider himself a pretty laid back guy for the most part. He could have a bit of a temper at times but he flet it only came out when someone insulted, oir hurt a memeber of his family, or one of his closests friends. Artemis often felt tht Angel was wound too tight with a short fuse. He seemed to stiff and serious for his tastes, but at the same time he noticed that the didn't seem to get on the girls cases as much as he did with him.
Artemis' thoughts soon turned to the girls, especially his twin sister Arketa. He may have only been a few minutes older than her, but he prides himslef in being her older brother and as such is over protective of her. He wondered how the girls search for leads were going, if it was more frriutful than his and Angel's. He also hoped that they were safe, sure they had powers of there own, but still he cared. Artemis focused his gaze on Angel and wonder if he was curious about the girls as well. "Hey Gel-"
"How many times to i have to tell you not to call me that?" Angel interrruped harshly.
"You don't seem to mind when Tina calls you that," he said with a grin. When he got no response from Angel he continued. "Anyway, do you think the girls are alright? "
"They will be alright. They can take care of themselves you know. Just because you feel the insessant need to sheild you sister from the evils of the world doesn't meant that they can't put up a fight," angel said.
"Yeah, but you know how Tavia can get," Artemis said.
"Impulssive, ecitable, and reckless; just like somebody else I know," Angel responded.
"Hey!" Arftemis shouted.
"No wonder you two get along so well. Though I would never put you two on a mission together,it would be doomed to failure," Angel continued as if Artemis hadn't said anything at all. "It's a shame when you're not 100% positive that you can rely on some of the people in your group."
"I'm right here you sumg little-" Artemis stopped mid sentence when he saw angel stop suddnely and throw up his hand to silence him. Angel was looking around catiously, something seemed off. He couldn't tell if something was following them or if he had just heard some large creature moving through the underbrush. Artemis was now looking around as well. Even though more than half of the time Artemis was in the same space as Angel they argued, he still truested him and his skill. If Angel was on guard then there was usually a good reason. They stood slient for a few minutes, looking for any sign of trouble and listening for anything out of the ordinary. Too be ambushed right now would not end well for the two of them. Artemis, though he wouldn't admit it willing to Angel, wasn't even sure if he would have enough energy to make it back to their meeting stop. Angel, though he didn't fight as much as Artemis, knew he wouldn't be able to fend anthing off for too long on his own should Artemis fall. A few more minutes passed before they started to let down their guard. they boys looked at each other for a moment before they started walking again. "As I was saying," Artemis started to say, "i would appreciate it if -"
"Aha! Temmi! Gelly!" A female cried out interrupting artemis, and before Angle could turn around to face the source of the sound his face was meeting the forest floor. "i finnaly found you!" the female shouted happily. Artemis couldn't help but chuckle once he got a good look at the female. He could recognize those dark green pigtails anywhere.
"Well well, speak of the devil," he muttered to himself before addressing his friend, "So why were you looking for us Tavia?" Tavia sat up on Angels back and looked at Artemis.
"Well, the girls and I made it back to the inn a while ago. I felt like you guys should have been back already too so I went looking for ya," she siad with a smile. "I could tell your voice from anywhere Temmi!" Artemis rubbed his neck for a moment and looked down at the ground. A muffled voice and the sound of moment made him look back at Tavia and her current seat cushion.
"You may want to get off of him now Tav," he said with a slight chuckle, "I'm not sure if he can breathe." Tavia looked down at Angel and with a giggle got up and stood next to Artemis. Angel turned so that he was on his back and then slowly sat up. He had a frown on his face that was directed at the both of his companions. Then he point at them in turn, first Tavia and then Artemis.
"You two...I swear..." he trailed off at a loss of words due to his fustration. he wasn't sure how he could put up with the two of them most of the time. he was certian that if Tina and Arketa weren't apart of the group as well, the two before him would have driven him crazy long ago. With a sigh he closed his eyes and reached around to try and rub his sore back. Angel relaized that it must have been Tavia that had set him on edge minutes ago. She could be very sneaky when she wanted to be, but somehow he could always tell, even if he didn't always know that it was her.
Artemis turned to look at Tavia and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Arketa is alright, right? Tell me that nothing happened to my little Arky." He inquired.
"Arky is fine Temmi, nothing to worry about. She tried to convince me to stay and wait for you guys. Then Tina started to ask me what I would do if I came across you guys and you were in trouble. Of course I said that i would do what I do best!" she said and with a wide grin pulled what appeared to be a small rag doll from her pocket. "Sure he may not look like much now but my little pocket pal can pack quite the puch when needed. Isn't that right P.P?" she said as she made the doll nod in agreement. Artemis sighed in relif on the news about his sister and let his amrs fall back to his sides. He looked at the doll for a moment and then looked back at Tavia. They all knew she could fight, and they knew that she had some magic abilities. Seeing her use her magic abilities, however, was something they hadn't seen often. They weren't even sure what all she could do or how the doll really came into play. For the most part they just had to take her word for it. Artemis gave Tavia a smile and then gentily patted the dolls head.
"I'm sure he does Taiva, I'm sure he does," he said simply and then looked at Angel. "You doing alright over there partner?" the question earned him another glare.
"I would be if little miss excitable didn't tackle so damn hard. I'll be able to walk, just give me a few more mintues if you would be so kind," he responded.
~
An hour or so later the trio was back at the inn meeting in the room the girls shared. After ten minutes or so Artemis and Arketa began to have a heated dispute about his use of his demon form and not getting the information that he and Angel had set out for. "You are such a blockhead brother! You know that you can't transform for the next day or so now!" Arketa shouted at her brother. He began to say something but she cut him off. "What are we going to do if we need you to transform hm? Sure you can throw fire around here and there but what if we get into a situation where it's not enough? Did you think of that Temmi?" Artemis didn't back down from his sister.
"But Arky, they insulted our mother! And it's not like I passed out this time! I won't completely useless," he argued, "Come on Arky, like you wouldn't have moved some earth if you had heard what they said!"
"You almost got us killed!" Angel interruped.
"Shut up Angel!" the twins said in unision. Arketa stared at her brother for a few moments and pressed her forefinger against Artemis' forehead. "Artemis Zepheniah Raines, if you do something like that again and get yourself killed I swear to you that I will find your soul and bind it to the girliest doll I can find! Do I make myself clear?" Tavia giggled at hearing Artemis' middle name for the first time, but the twins ignored her. Artemis removed his sister's finger from his forehead and placed his hands on her shoulders.
"Listen, I'm the elder here-"
"Only by a few minutes!"
"Reguardless, What kind of older brother would I be if I left my dear sweet sister when she still needed me?"
"I don't need you to be so protective over me!"
"Sure you don't my dear Arketa Elizabeth Raines, but, " he hesisitated for a moment, "fine." Artemis sighed and sat down on one to the beds in the room. He looked at Angel and then the other girls in the room. "Hey look, I'm sorry alright. I care about my ma. I don't care what kind of reputation her kind has, she's different, but that doens't change the fact i loss the opportunity to get whatever info they may have had. Sorry." He looked away from them and towards the mirror and sink by the small bathroom. Arketa sighed and leaned against the long desk that was across the beds. Tina and Tavia looked at Artemis and then each other not sure what to say at the moment. Angel moved over to Artemis and grabbed the fron of his shirt. Artemis looked at him with confusion. A few moments later Artemis was holding his nose and swearing under his breath. He looked up at Angel now with slight anger mixed with confusion. "What the fuck was that for?" he yelled. Arketa stood straight looking slightly apprehensive. Tina had the same question herself, though more censored, but did not voice it. Angel only grinned slightly.
"Apology accepted, you dolt," Angel said. He let go of his shirt and shook out his hand that he used to punch Artemis with, while muttering something about how he had been wanting to do that for awhile. He then took on a serious look and turned his attention towards the girls. "Did you get the infromation you were looking for?" he asked.
"You mean Tavia didn't tell you?" Tina asked and shot a side glance at Tavia who just smiled and shrugged. Tina rolled her eyes and sighed. Then she began to explain to the guys, while Artemis went over to the sink and mirror to check his nose, about the day the girls had. It seemed to be one goose chase after another and any answer they thought there were getting were vague and useless. After she finished explaining Artemis had returend to his seat on the bed and Angel was pacing in front of the beds. They were no closer to their goal than a few days ago. Tavia sat down on the other unoccupied bed and began bouncing out of boredom.
Tavia understood the seriousness of what they set out to do but, it was hard for her to sit or stand still for too long. She didn't consider today that much of a setback, she beileved that they would suceed and could go back to their families or go off and do whatever they wanted to do and be happy. Hyperactive and overly optimistic would be how Tavia would describe herself, sure she knew that it would, and could, get on others nerves from time to time but she wouldn't change herself. She just wanted to have fun and help others do the same. While stll bouncing on the bed she looked around at the others. She studies each of their expressions and tried to see if she could come up with what each of them could be thinking at that moment.
Arketa pulled out the chair that was under the desk she had been leaning against and sat down. She took off her glasses, let down her brown hair from the clips that held it up, and ran her fingers through it. She sighed and looked at her brother. A slient look of understaning passed between them and Artemis sighed softly as well. Arketa felt like in this little group she fell in the middle. Not as serious as Angel and Tina, but not as impulsive and extreme as her brother and Tavia could be. Arketa looked at the others and messaged her temples. "So, what are we gonna do now?" she asked. The other three didn't know, but for her and her brother this mission was also personal for them. One of the people that was in danger was a close friend of theirs. Arketa and Atremis had agreed that they weren't going to bring it up until it was absolutely necessary. Angel stopped pacing and looked at her.
"Now?" he sighed. "Now we rest. It's been a long day for all of us. We'll do our planning tomorrow once we're well rested," he said and then looked at Artemis. "Let's go and let the ladies rest."
"Good night Arky, Tina, and Tavi. Sleep well," Artemis said before being dragged out by Angel who also wishesd the girls goodnight. The girls said good night to the boys and then began to discuss who would be sharing one of the beds tonight. After a few mintues, and a few rounds of rock paper scissors, it was decided that Tavia and Arketa would be sharing the bed by the window, and Tina would get the bed next to the bathroom to herself. Tina got up and went into the bathroom to get ready for the night. Tavia looked at Arketa with an inquisitve exppression. Arketa knew that look, she knew that it was Tavia's way of asking if she could ask a question. she felt that it was weird, cute in it's own special way, but weird.
"What is it Tavia?"
"Do you and Temmi always argue about that, or in general?" Tavia asked. Arketa wasn't expecting such a question, but smiled and decided to answer anyway.
"When it comes to Temmi and his demon form, I guess we do argue about that more often than not when he uses it. He doen't know how to completely control it, or keep it from draining so much of his energy yet. It worries me, and he is so overprocetive," she sighed a little, "Sure at one point where we were younger I needed it, but we've grown and I've gotten better with my own abilities since then. I haven't mastered them but I can protect myself." Arketa went over to the window and looked out. Tavia continued to look at her from the bed. "I guess it just gets on my nerves from time to time, and I don't always win the arguments either. He always get so adamant about being a few minutes older than me and his responsibilities as a older brother. Sometimes I just can't bring myself to argue against him."
"Feel guilty?" Tavia asked, and caused Arketa to turn around sharply to look at her. "What? The more you talk about it the softer and sadder your voice gets. I may get hyper and at times easliy distrcated, but I can be observant and insightful."
"Yeah, I guess so. He keeps saying how he's responsible for my safty because he's older, even though it's only by a few minutes, and I feel like he's gonna get himself into something he can't get out of because of that. Stupid blockhead!" Arketa sighed once more and sat on the bed with Tavia. Tavia, the younger of the two, scooted over to Arketa and gave her a hug. Before letting her go she mention something about Artemis probably just couldn't help his caring nature and laughed a little. Soon after Tina came out of the bathroom and sat on her bed. Tavia gathered her things and went to take her turn in the bathroom.
Arketa looked at Tina but did not say anything. There was something about Tina that she couldn't connect with. She wasn't sure if it was the feeling she got from the green pendant necklace that Tina wore, or if it was just Tina's mostly distant personality that bothered her for some reason. She could tell that Tina was good, but there also seemed to be something beneath the surface as well. No one else had said anything though, not even Artemis, so maybe it was just her. Arketa got up from the bed and began to get her things for when it was her turn in the bathroom. Soon enough all the girls were ready for bed and after going over what had happened that day they turned the lights off and went to sleep.

"You sure you can hear that Kyra?" a female asked her cellmate or about the fifth time that hour. Kyra just shook her head and continued to look at the hole in the wall that she was certain belonged to a mouse or rat. "You mean you really can't hear that high pitched sound?" Kyra once again shook her head. "God, then it must be like a dog whistle for telepaths or something becuase it's starting to drive me crazy!"
"Claudine, sit. Pacing around isn't going to solve anything," Kyra said finally. Claudine stopped and looked at her.
"Sit? If I had to still sit for my life I doubt I could do it. Maybe if I can concentrate on moving around enough I can block out that damn noise. It's bad enough that I can't fully control what thoughts I can or can't hear, but to have this sound that I can't even block out in the slightest? That's just all kinds of messed up, and i know messed up," she responded and then began walking around the cell again. Kyra said nothing but turned to look at Claudine. Claudine sighed. "I guess this is what I get for trying to lift the key off the guard earlier."
"You should have been more discreet about it," Kyra said.
"It's not as easy for me using telekinesis on moving objects,it requires more concentration. And trying to be discreet? Might as well tell me to try and stop a moving bull in a china shop," Claudine said and then stopped walking again, "If that makes any sense. Stuck with these abilities for six years and some times i still feel like I haven't learned any control."
"Some people are only ment to go so far with their abilties, and yours weren't naturaily developed," Kyra responded.
"Yeah, well it's fustrating," she said and then looked at her nails still trying to ignore the ringing in her ears, "You think I could pick the lock to our cell?"
"I would not try it if I was you. Do you want them to render you unable to use your abilities completely?"
"No but I'm tried of playing the damsel in destress. That's not me! We need to get out of here before we share the fate of the othes that were captured as well. Whatever fate that was. And what about you miss calm? Can your abilities get us out of here? I know you've been looking at that hole for a reason. That reason, however, you've been able to keep from me." Kyra just looked at Claudine for a moment and then when she began to open her mouth to speak Claduine motioned for her to stop. 'The guards on their way by to check to see if we're still here,' she said to her using her telepathy, hoping that the sound she was hearing wouldn't go through as well. 'I would be best to communicate this way for the time being.' Kyra concentrated to make sure her thoughts could get through to Claudine clearly and through the noise.

"Angel, I think we've exhausted all off our possiblities in this town," Tina said while the group was having lunch. Tavia was busying playing with the stars in her soup to pay much attention to the conversation at hand. Artemis was writing down a tune he had in his head to play on his guitar once he got the chance, but he did agree with Tina's assesment. Angel was processng what Tina had said when Arketa decided to speak up next.
"I think she's right. We've looked into every possibiltiy that came up, and either we got nothing, they had nothing, or they were to scared to say anything. Whoever this Ilance person is, he must have a lot of power and possible influence."
"We still need to figure out where he is and why he's kidnapping people," Angel said, "but if we can't get anymore answers here we may as well move on."
"A key," Tavia said still playing with her soup. The others looked at Tavia wondering what she was talking about. Without missing a beat Tavia continued. "Someone had mentioned something about a key. What kind of key or what for I dunno."
"Tav, why didn't you tell us this before?" Artemis asked. Tavia looked up from her soup to look at him. Then she turned her gaze towards Angel.
"I tried to, but someone thought what I had to say was just nonsense," she answered and then returned to her soup. "I may be silly but I'm not stupid." Arketa looked at Tavia for a moment longer and then turned towards Angel.
"That's better than nothing. Maybe it has something to do with a legend or a prophecy. We still need more details though before we can draw any clear conclusions," she said. "Where should we head to next?" Angel didn't answer right away. He was trying to think of the next possible destionation. He was uncertain where they could go to get the information they needed. Angel had the feeling that time was slowly turning against them and he did not like that possibility. Artemis had switched from writing music to drawing a picture. It seemed to be a map of some sort that he was recalling from memory. There were several small x's in different locations on the makeshift map. After a few moments he taped a location on it with his pen.
"North," Artemis began gaining the others attention, "We go north towards the mountains." He picked up the napkin he had drawn the map on and showed it to the others. "The x's show where he have been," he stated. Artemis then set the napkin down on the table again and circled some of the x's. When he finished he held it back up for them to see. "The place's I've circled at the places that we have gotten the most information from so far. You see where I'm going with this?"
"Yes," Tina answered. "It seems like the further west or south we go the less valuable the information we recieve. There are a few towns near the mountains that get alot of traffic from visitors and trade. It seems to follow reason that a lot of gossip and news would get passed around as well."
"That settles it then, we head towards the mountians," Angel said. "We should have enough for a bus ride to the town of Cital, but we've already missed the last bus for the day. So we ask around one more time just incased we missed something, then we rest up for the trip tomorrow morning." The others nodded in agreement then the finished their lunch. They split up into teams for the last info gathering session. The twins went further downtown, Angel and Tina headed for the libarary to check for any books on local or widespread legends, and Tavia went off to do things her own random way.
`
"This is so pointless right now," Tavia said to herself after awhile of asking people what they knew. She placed her hands behind her head as she walked. "I wonder if we're in over our heads here." She sighed and made her way towards the park nearby. Tavia was glad to go off on her own. She didn't have to worry about the others questioning her ways or methods. Normally she didn't mind, but there were times, like today, she felt underestimated. Sometimes she didn't mind leaving the others in the dark, but now she wondered if that was really a good thing; If they wasn't sure of what all she was capable of how could they plan her part when the time comes. There was the possibility that they would let her do her own thing when the time comes, which Taiva guessed wasn't a bad thing. She considered herself decent at adapting to situations as they came up.
Once Tavia reached the park her went for the swings and sat down. She was always one for adventure but she wondered how her mother and siblings were, and if they missed her. As Tavia thought about it more she began to swing. She could be a bit of a brat sometimes, and some of family seemed happy whenever she left on her little adventures. More often that not she would meet up with someone to travel with so that she was hardly ever alone just in case, but it seemed that lately her trips ended up being longer and longer. This trip was shaping up to be her longest and probably most adventurous left. Tavia was sure that if or when she got home she would have one amazing story to tell her family if they would listen. She sighed and kept swinging; trying to see how high she could go.
Soon she grew tried of it and stopped her efforts, letting the swing slow down on it's own. Tavia wondered if she should begin to head back towards the inn, or if she should wander around some more. The more she thought about the situation, the more she began to think that they should have agreed on a time for everyone to meet again. Once the swing slowed down enough she jumped off and began to leave the park. She decided that she would figure something out while she walked.

Since progress is at a severe standstill I'll share my attempt from 2009. When it looked like I wasn't gonna complete it because I was too busy,(I was still in school then), I just typed out what would have been a later scene that had came to mind. (Never went back to edit what I did have so there'll be typos everywhere)
"Hey, Emerald, did you hear that? There's going to be some fancy party in a few days." Cliff said with a hint of excitement in his voice.
"Yeah, I heard. It's supposedly at the king's castle. Which most likely means invite only." She turned to look at him. "So I don't see why your bothering to get excited over it."
"Oh come on Emy," he ignonred her sharp look and continued, "I'm sure it's open to anyone who can afford to go."
"And what makes you think we can afford to go? I don't have that kind of money and you barely have any at all if you'll recall."
"I think if we can look the part we may not have to pay at all."
"That too takes money, and again my earier point still stands."
"Well I have what I need, but do you?" He stopped and took a think pose while looked her over. "That outfit won't cut it, you need something more lady like."
"A, do you really think I'm interested in going in the first place? B, no I do not have a outfit that would be more 'lady like'. I'm a traveler for crying out loud! What practical use would having a dress or some other such outfit with me do? They wouldn't last, and that would just be a waste of money that could have been used for more practicle and useful items. And C, and what good would it do to try and look the part anyway? They'll find out, I'm sure of that, and then what?" She pointed at him and placed her other hand on her hip. "And one thing tends to lead to another, and being royality they probably have ways of finding out things and then, well..." she paused and looked away. "I don't think we should go." Cliff laughed and went to her side. He put his arm around her.
"I've said it before, and I'll say it again. You worry to much Emerald. I-"
"I have good reason to worry, and you've seen where a carefree attitude, namely yours, can lead us." She said as she tried to shrug off his arm. He only laughed again and leaned in to whisper in her ear.
"You still worry too much, and besides I'm the only one around that knows your secret. I promised you that I wouldn't tell." Emerald turned and looked into his (insert color here)eyes. He smiled and grabbed her hand. "You need to let loose every once in a while. Come on Emy!" Cliff let his other arm fall from her shoulders and began to pull her along. She pulled her hand out of his grip.
"The only reason I haven't left you to travel on my own is beacuse you know my secret! You are way too reckless and carefree and to be honest I'm surpirsed that you haven't proclaimed my secret to the world in one of your drunken stupors." She said now glaring at him.
"Emerald, even after a year of traveling together you still don't trust me? I gave you my word that I wouldn't tell, and I'm a man of my word....mostly. Emy-"
"Emerald!!"
"...Emerald I won't let you get hurt. You should at least be able to tell that much is true and geniune. And come on, not everyone is-"
"Out to get me? Please tell me that you weren't going to say that. You may say take it easy, let loose every once in awhile. You say to trust you, but that is easier said than done Cliff." She pointed at him. "You are a theif Cliff-"
"Was! I was a theif!"
"Once a theif always a thief. You may not steal anymore but you still have your theif like ways, and every time I've seen an opportunity pop up that would benefit you, you've taken it. It's never failed, and sometimes it has been at my expense. So I can only wait to see if you won't turn me like you promise you wouldn't. Let's face it Cliff if you did you would be set for quite sometime."
"I'm not that cold hearted Emerald, you know that, and those times where it seemed like it was at your expense it wasn't. I did those things for the both of us and I meant it when I said I would keep your secret. But face it Emerald, you can't go through life dreading the next turn, you got to learn to live a little."
"Live a little? Live a little!? Look, Cliff, everyday I wake up alive and free is 'living a little'. I enjoy that fact and then continue on so that I can stay that way. Do you truely know what it's like to know that you're life is in grave danger everyday? That one small slip up can cost you everything?"
"Of course I know. That what it means to be an adventurer, even more so to be a theif, even though I gave up theiving." Emerald shook her head and turned her back to him.
"You only think you know." She balled her hand into a fist for a moment before relaxing and turning back towards Cliff. "Bottom line is, I'm not going to that party, and so help the both of us if you slip up."
Day 2 has come and gone just about and I have nothing to show for it. Today ended up being way busier than expected, and I had to help out my friend a lot and then we went out to eat, and then had more things to do. I'll have to make it up over the next few days if they don't end up similarly busy. For my brain is too tired to even attempt to continue the story. *le sigh*
"Be down in a second Cindy!" Illian called in return. He moved his cursor over to the stop button of his recording program and clicked it. He would have to try again later when there were less chances for interruption. Getting up from his chair he stood and stretched before leaving his room to head for the kitchen downstairs. The others he lived with were already gathered around the table except for two. "Hey, where are-"
"Oh they had to get an early start today, said something about grabbing something to eat while they were out," Cindy answered before he could even finish his question. "Now hurry and grab a seat before Warren lays claim to your serving of breakfast," she said. Illian looked at Warren, who had already cleaned his plate, and shook his head slowly.
"Not today," Illian said as sat between him and one of the other girls who was currently reading the newspaper. Warren ran a hand through his sandy brown hair and grinned at him. Illian raised a brow but it was Warren's turn to shake his head.
"You might want to guard your plate just in case Illian," Cindy said as she brought over his plate and sat it down in front of him. Illian laughed and waved dismissivley, he felt no need to worry yet.
"People seem to be getting restless lately," came the soft voice in the other three's minds. They looked towards the girl reading the paper. "There has been more crime and riots in the last week than there has been in the past few months," she continued and set down the paper. "This is very concerning to me."
"Lila, do you think there's more than meets the eye going on here?" Warren asked.
"Delilah wouldn't be concerned if she didn't," Illian said, looking at Warren again. Warren looked at him in return with a bored expression.
"Ya know, Ian, if I wanted your opinion I would have asked you," he said. Illian opened his mouth to speak but was stopped by his friend putting a finger to his mouth and shushing him. "If you don't want me to steal your plate, I would suggest not saying another word."
"Boys, please..." Delilah said, followed by a silent sigh. "I would appreciate it if you would be careful when going out and keep an eye and ear out for anything suspicious," she requested. Illian nodded before beginning to eat his breakfast. Warren gave her a thumbs up and Cindy gave a quick salute as she started cleaning up. Delilah looked at the three of them before standing up. "I am going to tell the twins this as well, they are too far for me to tell them from here," she stated before heading out the kitchen.
"You want some company?" Warren asked. "Ya know, being careful also means looking out for each other," he added. Delilah stopped and turned to look at him. She debated for a minute or so on whether or not she wanted to be bother by his company. In the end she sighed silently and motioned for him to follow her. He had a point, and he was certain to bother her later if she didn't. Warren grinned and quickly stood from his chair. He looked at Illian briefly. "Heh, guess that good for you Ian. Your breakfast is completely safe now," he said and chuckled before following after Delilah. Illian rolled his eyes and continued to eat.
The twins are a brother and sister duo by the names of Nikolai and Kyra. Today was the day they started their new job and they had to be there early to learn a bit more abou their responsibilities. Nikolai would be working the cash register for the bookstore while Kyra would be making the customers drinks in the cafe portion. Business had been going slow that morning so they had more of a chance to make sure they were familiar with what they were going to be working with.
"Hey Nikolai! Do you think I'm going to smell like coffee in general or more like a specific flavor?" Kyra asked calling over to where her brother was putting more copies of a few books onto the shelves.
"My guess? It'll depend on what you make more of today," he answered, pausing a moment to glance over at his sister. "The real question, I think, is whether you'll be able to keep Cindy off of you once we get back. You know how she loves her hot drinks," he said and went back to his current task.
"Oh! I didn't take that one into consideration," she said as she placed a finger on her cheek and tilted her head slightly. "That is a good question brother! We'll just have to find out later!" she said with a giggle and looked at the different flavorings. "It is odd though..." she began as she touched each of the bottles and turned them so she could see the flavors properly, "I would have expected more customers by now."
"I would have to agree, it's usually so busy when we've stopped by before. It's strange that now that we're working here it's not that busy," her brother responded. He put the last book on the shelf and made his way over to the counter where the cash register sat. "Maybe today is just one of those days, or maybe they'll all swarm us a little later in the day."
"I can only hope that's true. I want to see happy smiling cutomers!" she said. Her brother only chuckled softly in response and looked out the front windows. Since there was no people to tend to for the time being he chose to watch the people passing by outside. He wasn't sure why but he like people watching. Couples sharing a laugh, people in a hurry or jogging, business people chatting on their cells, children with their parents; he found it interesting. Sometimes he would imagine what conversations they might be having or why they chose what they were wearing.
He nearly jumped in surprise when Warren nearly ran into the window he was looking out of. Warren grinned to see his friend's startled face. Nikolai started to roll up his sleeves but stopped when he noticed Delilah walking up and waved with a grin of his own. Warren looked at him in confusion until he felt someone yank his ear and pulled him along to enter the shop. "Delilah! Warren," Nikolai greeted. Kyra perked up and waved excitedly.
"Hey you two! How goes things?" she said.
"Oh, ya, know. The usual..." Warren said trailing off to look at Delilah. She rolled her eyes and looked at each of the twins in turn.
"I came to tell you to be cautious and on your guard when going from place to place. Things seem to be taking a strange turn and I am concerned," she said to them. The twins looked at each other seriously for a moment before looking back at Delilah and nodding.
"Say no more. The Ipson twins are on duty," they said together. Delilah gave them a little smile before turning to leave.
"Thank you," she said before leaving the shop. Warren had went over to Kyra and leaned against the counter. She looked at him with her head tilted slightly and he grinned.
"So, sweetheart, hows about you and me get together after your shift is done?" he asked with a wink.
"You know flirting with me is going to get you no where," she said and giggled. "Especially not with my twin being right over there," she said pointing around him to her brother. He chuckled and leaned in closer.
"Oh? And what about those little dream escapades?" he whispered. She stopped pointing and looked away while blushing slighly.
"We don't talk about those," she whispered harshly. "Shouldn't you be leaving with Delilah?" she asked in a normal tone. "I have the feeling you convinced her to let you come with her and if you don't follow her until she gets back home...you know what might happen, right?"
"Oh no sis, don't try to warn him," Nikolai said with a sly grin. "Let him find out on his own. It would make my day," he said. Warren raised a brow and looked between the two of them.
1034 words and my friend just came in so I'm gonna have to pause my work for the moment while we talk. But I'm almost there. Might make some dinner as well.
I'm awake, and I'm not panicking but procrastinating. Excuse? Trying to find the right music to write to. I have a semblance of an idea and a character I might use, both were bothering me last night I was trying to rest. I didn't want to go too far as then what usually happens is that when I wake I don't remember it or feel like going any further with it until next time I'm trying to sleep. Anyway, the search for the right music continues.
