That audio clip of astarion saying when he was little he used to dream of marrying a chivalrous heroic man like wyll. Its so painful but cute when u think about it like, the years of torture made him think that no one could ever love him enough to marry him since no one ever tried to help him or showed him compassion? But also maybe astarion feels like hes too much of a bad person now for a heroic guy to like him at all. And hes also lowkey saying that he thinks wyll is husband material but he would never like him back because of the above reasons. And heres why wyll should make out with him

Larian really missed an opportunity by having Wyll sign an objectively shit contract in act 3 when he’s got Astarion, the magistrate, right there. I wanna see him, glitter gel quill in hand, go over those terms and conditions and absolutely rake Mizora over the coals. wyll’s got a set release date and health insurance by the end of it

Something I find interesting is that Larian has actually been around since 1996, only a year after BioWare was founded. Divine Divinity, the beginning of the Divinity series worldbuilding (and one not based on an existing IP the way BG and SWTOR are), came out in 2002 (the same year as NWN), still very much in the golden era of classic RPGs.

Obviously they remained a much smaller studio for a long time, but I think a fair bit of that can be attributed to the fact they didn't get taken over by venture capitalists and eventually notoriously ill-reputed corporate giant EA. It meant that Swen Vincke continued to gain just as much development and leadership experience as other legendary industry figures, but with full creative control and no corporate leeches breathing down his neck over quarterly profit margins.

So really, I'd say it's more "BioWare sprinted, stumbled, and ate shit so that Larian Studios could step over their bloated corpse and win the race, Tortoise and the Hare style."
