Little Unspoken Moments in a Teenage Love Story. PT 1
The both of us stare wordlessly at the jersey that I had brought over for him to try on. He'd have to take his top off in order for him to try on the jersey, a fact which hadn't escaped either of us.
It's not the first time I've seen him with his top off. Last Summer, our friends went to the coast for the day and we went swimming in our underwear because we had forgotten to bring swimsuits. That was the first time. This is the second time. Except this time it's different. We weren't dating the first time. We are now.
I glance over at him, seeing his doe-eyed expression as his cheeks slowly turn light pink. He was already looking at me.
I turn my gaze to my bag as I pretend to be searching for something. The bag is empty. We both know this.
From the corner of my eye i see him lift his shirt above his head and put it down beside the other one. I lose control of my actions as I turn my head to look at him, very unsubtly.
The sight I was met with didn't make my knees go weak with attraction. Infact, I felt endeared more than anything.
My boy stood there, shirtless, his hands slowly grasping the fabric of the jersey infront of him. His body was pale and skinny, his chest and shoulders covered in acne, with more ribs than muscle, and a faint line of brown hair trailing underneath his belly button.
To me it was an image of perfection, and one that brought me back to Earth.
As teenagers in this day and age, we are contantly tasked with appearing to look and act like adults. It is something that is equally forced upon us and that we take upon ourselves.
There was something about the way he stood there for that second, or two, incredibly insecure looking but his body looking so unapologetically like the 16-year-old boy that he is, that made me feel so calm.
We have the rest of our lives to look like adults and think like adults and be adults. But, for now we are still kids. Two kids who loves eachother so much more we ever thought possible.
"So how do I look" he asked then, with the jersey on.
"Perfect"
