Content could do a Druig one shot where fem reader is a reincarnation of a past love in the past she was a concubine sort of like Anck su namun in the present she starts remembering the past and he seeks her out and finds her and they had an affair when I guess they were staying in the palace and her whole body was painted in gold, she dies. And they were reunited in the end because he is eternal and she reborn sorta like a doppleganger.
Summary - you and Druig had a relationship during your forceful marriage to the king in a past life, your sudden death had pained druig and he has searched for you since. This also means your starting to remember.
Warnings - suicide, flashbacks. Angst.
Love was never something you thought you would experience, not in this day and age. Your place in this world as a woman was to marry, bare and serve. Everything you had experienced up until this moment was precisely that, a role to which you fit perfectly because you had been created to do so.
Not that you believed that.
No matter how much you had been hurt, abused. You were too strong minded to comprehend the caged role of what society perceived a woman to be, your intelligence was beyond their years and you sought out more and more everyday, not that they knew of that. To them, you were a pretty face, a womb to carry and hands to work. To them, you had no mind.
But to Druig, you weren’t. You were a rose amongst thorns.
You had been sitting in the far corner of the bountiful party when they had walked in, a body used as an exhibition of art when your ‘husband’ needed to impress the others. It was undoubtedly the most pathetic thing you had witnessed. Not even his own capabilities towards his people was something that could land him an impression, it was merely the gold he possessed. The gold that painted your body like a second layer of skin.
Your husband had been far from his own mind when he was tossed into a pit of drunken men, men who’d eventually leave to lay with another woman for the night and maybe even extend their stays in the brothel. Not that you were complaining, you loved when his presence was far from yours.
His drunken breath could take up most of your thoughts thinking about the stench.
Your legs carried you to the library, covering dusty floors and tattered books. One’s you were forbidden to touch but you were never too worried about death, you played with it everyday. Being with a man who seldom sees the brothel more than his own ‘wife’ gives you multiple instances of leisure to do what you pleased, but only when the moon rises from its slumber.
Your excitement clouded your mind and the footsteps mimicking your own seemed to only be a mere disturbance behind you. You were great at ignoring those when you were in a state of freedom.
“My queen” the curator bowed upon your entrance, your hood falling from your long strands. Revealing your identity.
“Oh stop, you know I hate it when you call me that Giovanni” you replied, bending down with a stretch in your legs to pick the boy up from the floor. Giovanni’s bright eyes squinted with apprehension.
“No but’s. Your family” You cut Giovanni off before he could speak any further, he was your nephew yet he treated you no differently from the king. That poor excuse of a man. Giovanni gathered all his courage and strength to muster up a reply without crossing any borders of intrusive boundaries towards someone with high status, he knew you disliked it but he couldn’t help himself.
Druig was standing behind a shelf. Leaning against the old oak with curiosity, he watched how you interacted with the boy and stood firmly in his place, what was meant to be a mere glance into who the king spoke so low of became more than that.
“Now, where is that book I was reading last time?” You asked Giovanni politely making sure your eyes met his, the younger boy huffed in defeat. His small hand lifting to point towards a cabinet at the far end of the architecture “It’s the last one on your right, bottom shelf”
You lowered your head with a smile slithering onto your lips “Thank you”
And with his guidance you rushed towards the cabinet, you followed and passed a multitude of earthy coloured books but your eyes could only grasp the one in silver, the one with stars aligned on it. This very book held the understanding of the universe and to you, that was the most intricate book you had ever read. You loved to soak up words and understand the magnificence behind your existence.
Not that you experienced anything magnificent after the wedding to your king.
You took a seat just behind the shelfs, using the poor wood to comfort your position. After all, the family owned store was far from lavish in the eyes of the higher ups. It was old, dusty and ridiculously hideous but you didn’t care, it was beautiful in your eyes.
The way the dust blanketed the floors and the shine glistened against the polished shelfs, it was a sense of comfort you longed for. A love you had only for them. One you didn’t even grant your own acquainted marital status.
A creak in the floorboards scared you into shooting up from your spot, coming in contact with a presence towering over you. Your book fell from your delicate hands and almost immediately; you had grabbed the blade hiding beneath your cloak in defense.
“Don’t be afraid, I mean no harm” Druig stepped back away from you, knowing that it may give you a sense of comfort if you knew he was not there to lay you in harms way. Once you had noticed who it was under the spot of fire hanging from the sides of the shelfs, your fear sunk into a pit of inquisition.
“Suddenly my fear has been eradicated.” You said with mordacity.
Druig refrained himself from any further sneer he sought towards your comment, peering down at you with the likes of question lingering in his eyes “You can’t be that afraid,”
“What?” you sneered, furrowing your brows. He had a bit of height to him, so in order to lock eyes with the being standing before you, you had to crane your neck slightly.
“The books, are you not forbidden from reading them?” He questioned, awaiting for your reply.
Your eyes had yet to witness the depth of his as you searched for anyone around you but Giovanni had seemingly wandered away from your position and was no longer posted by the door for your safety.
“Forbidden, yes. But, there’s no one stopping me” You reprimanded the man's words, finally settling your beating heart. Druig had laughed, a laugh that held surprise. He was amused by your bravery, not so much one of battle but still, bravery.
“Men are also forbidden from being near me, are you not afraid of the consequences?” You replied with a snark, almost in mockery.
Druig settled once more on the oak, arms crossed against his chest with his entire weight being held by the shelves. His gaze had yet to be ceased from your stature “What makes you think I’m afraid?”
You shrugged your shoulders, the weight of your adornments were beginning to agitate you in more ways than one “Why wouldn’t you be?” You reputled, picking up the book from the floor and dusting it off with your hands. The shining gold band hugging your stubborn fingers were caught immediately from Druig. That ring was the least noticeable of all the jewelry you had adorned.
“I possess more qualities then you know, princess” His tone was like fine silk, drawing from his pink lips. The look he shot you was one of flirtation and you were more than welcome to reciprocate it.
“Princess huh? That’s new. What’s your name?” You finally asked, hugging the book tight to your chest, finally locking gazes with him and just like that, the air filling your lungs had been snatched away as your eyes bestowed themselves on the man before you.
Your dreams have been constant lately, more vivid and surreal. They were far fetched and you were becoming worried, you didn’t understand them. Every dream you had, he was in them. The realism of them didn’t seem to register as dreams once you had risen from the depths of your slumber.
It was almost like slumber no longer existed because the moment your eyes closed and the relaxation hit, they would open and you were no longer adorning your usual black hoodie and large fitting jeans. Instead, they were replaced with lavish gowns and gold ornaments.
You had been walking to a local bookstore to search for a book on reincarnation, it might have been implausible but it didn’t matter right now, you needed the information to settle your mind for a bit. You had a longing in your stomach that never settled even after the dreams would stop, you knew that the man in them was someone who held significance in your life due to the emotions you awoke with every waking dawn.
“Princess” Druig cooed, watching you round the corner of the palace. His voice always had a reaction out of you and you enjoyed the warmth in it when you were around Druig.
“Druig” You greeted him with the likeliness of love scratching at your throat.
“Please, is Druig the only thing you like calling me?” He asked with a raised brow, a subtle tone of pink resting on his cheeks.
You looked away from him for a mere second, searching for an answer “Druig is your name, is it not?” You joked, not wanting him to know the other multiple names you’ve thought of calling him. Druig licked his lips, coating them.
“I know yours is Y/n but I’d prefer calling you princess. It’s much more suitable than a name” Druig protested, his hands raising to your hips as he planted them firmly against your coated skin. He tugged you closer so you both basked in the same comfort, pulling you with him into the mellowness of the small alley of the kingdom.
“Aren’t you the sweetest” you laughed making the whites of Druigs eyes show as he rolled them back.
“Only for you.” He shot back.
“I’ve thought about calling you a multitude of names Druig but I find the beauty in your name more fitting” you replied, it was true, You’d always call people by their position in the kingdom but with Druig it was just his name and you loved it. Not a title, not a degradation of someones being, just his name.
“I see,” Druigs pearly teeth were framed by his lips as he leant down, plucking a kiss to your forehead with love. So tender and soft, nothing you had ever experienced. Druig never had a place he called home but with you he figured a home wasn’t an object but rather a person, his person.
You couldn’t help but constantly think about the man in your dreams, he treated you with utter care. Like you were a delicate feather that he would never throw away. To say the least, it was a constant plunge at your internal feelings, you missed it. If it was something other than a dream.
You had made it to the library and you couldn’t help but feel at one with it, it was a stunning building. Large with antiques and not once had been compromised by modernisation. The council may have recognised this piece of architecture as a landmark of the past and forbid anyone from demolishing it. That’s one thing you could thank them for.
Stepping into the building you managed to follow your intuition which was strong, somehow. Leading you to a shelf far from the rest, with every step you could feel your heart begin to pace faster and faster and the breaths escaping your lungs only roughened with every step. Man, you need more exercise.
You recalled one of your most recent dreams which sent you into overdrive the moment you woke up. It was one of your very last visions you had.
The flames beneath you only burnt faster as it began to cover the large walls of the palace, the men you once knew as fellow servants of the guard met the others in battle with blades shining with the rough fire surrounding them like a barricade, it was a fight to the death and most had chosen death above all.
You knew this was your only choice, your final choice.
You couldn’t bear to see the man you loved be slaughtered like an animal and then yourself, so you fought against the shackles placed on you and ran. Ran as fast as your legs could carry you onto the very top of the building, the only thing you could hear were the screams of men and the fading tramples of the men following you, seeking to witness your undeniable demise.
You jumped the ledge standing with both of your feet gripping the edge of the sturdy architecture, it was now or never.
“STOP” a familiar voice shouted over the anguish happening beneath you.
Your head snapped to the man behind you and just like the universe had its wicked ways, there Druig stood with utter disbelief labeling his strong features.
He was maddened by your desire to fleed life so early, to take your presence away from him.
“Get off the ledge Y/n” He demanded, the crack in his voice going unnoticed. If there was one thing Druig had never used against you; was his abilities to control someone. He always thought that to use them against you was to commit the largest crime of the universe and he would rather control hoards of men than to control the one person he loved.
“I have to do this Druig.” You cried, too stubborn to move from your place. Time seemed like nothing to you both but right now, it was the only thing stopping you from leaping. The tears momentarily blurred your vision giving Druig enough time to approach you, he too stood on the smallest portion of the ledge, right in front of you.
He was so close you two felt like one, like always.
“You don't love, just come with me” He begged. He never begged for a human but he couldn’t help but feel his throat tightening at the sight.
“Druig, they’ll kill us both” You whimpered, lifting your hand to his cheek and feeling the softness of his skin “No, they won’t. They wouldn’t even come close” Druig said, treading lightly on the waters he was in. He fought the need to use his abilities, as much as his heart cried for it just to live a prosperous life with you.
“I would kill them all before I let a fly harm you, my love. I’d do anything for you, can you do the same” His voice was the only thing you could hear above the cries of war wrecking beneath you. All too busy meddling with death to witness the other things happening but just as them, you longed for an untimely ending.
Druig was always going to live, even if your death happened. His immortality would force him to continue on with life and for once, you were going to be selfish.
“My dear Druig” You pleaded, almost like you wanted him to see the weight on your shoulders. The name had caught him off guard.
“The only thing harming you, is me.” The wind from the raging fires picked up just as the flames once did and it rippled through your hair, chaos was nothing compared to the look in his eyes as they shone with tears.
Druig shook his head searching your own for answers “I love you, so so much.”
You felt him lean into your touch more, letting his guard down for once “You showed me that love isn’t a possession, that it could be fun and treasured. That with love you could survive anything.” Druigs chest jutted out with his subtle cries, he’d never cried in his centuries he’d been on earth but for some reason, his tears dropped to the floor.
He was going to use his abilities.
You stood on the tips of your toes placing a kiss on his lips, laying your head on his chest.
Life was despicable, you had convinced yourself that your love for Druig was going to cover the weight on your shoulders. The tightness of your chest, that the things you’d experienced in the palace were nothing but that, experiences. Oh how you were wrong, they lived in the depths of your mind and the more you rose with the burning sun. The larger that heaviness felt, you no longer felt like a feather, you felt anchored.
“I’ll always be in your heart,”
And with that, you pushed yourself from him and gravity pulled you to the floor. Succumbing your flesh to the flames.
Even when you awoke, the sweat pooling around you. You still managed to find your weakness and wept in your own comforts. That how you landed here. In this building in search for answers. You were nearing a corner, somewhere no one had been, it resembled the same large shelfs in your dreams and the floor as well, except there was no lather of dust surrounding it. Just a clean, polished floor. You hummed to the music entering your ears, with the large headphones blessing you with fulfilling tunes.
But the possibility of your intuition leading you to answers didn’t come in the form of books, instead in the form of flesh and blood.
Druig too believed in reincarnation, that some qualities still stayed within a person and he was right. Your feet padded across the floor and for a moment he looked behind him, no one had come this far into the library. It was much too large for any incompotent person to even dismiss their faults to walk deep into the luxuries of a library.
He had come to this very same spot, twice every decade. He knew his timing was off but it was the day you had jumped from that ledge. Betraying him and leaving Druig to think about your body in ashes. It was something he could never forget.
He snatched the book from the shelf, that same silver lining with the stars. He kept it all this time.
Your music was extremely loud and a little obnoxious for those in the library but as you searched, your eyes met leather black shoes and a pair of black texture pants. Your shock verbalised with a slight scream, immediately looking up to the one who’d disrupted your search and pulling the earphones off.
Druig couldn’t believe the sight standing in front of him.
“Fuck” you shouted, holding your hand close to your chest then down to your stomach as you bent over. Out of breath.
“Aren’t you just a wonder” Druig released, not once moving his eyes from you.
“Says you, who stands like that in front of someone” You retorted in mockery. Just the same, just as sarcastic.
Druig momentarily took in the sight of his beloved standing before him, just as he pictured “I could say the same, make use of your eyes next time.” He snapped with a grin. You finally took in his form, from his shining shoes to his stormy eyes.
“You look familiar” You judged, not caring about the oddities of what you were currently doing. You examined every fibre of his being and it clicked, took a while but it did. You just couldn’t believe it.
“Do I?” He hummed, leaning down slightly so you could catch a better look of him. He would say it was merely a move from his cockyness but he did it as well to be nearer. Examining your features he missed, they were exactly the same except for the small scar on your neck, which was new.
“Well lifetimes of existence, I wouldn’t blame you for not understanding” He reprimanded, hiding his eager tone. Your head shook and the drama began, just as fast as you had entered, you walked back in denial. In your visions you had precisely remembered him for his immortality but you didn’t want to believe it.
“No, this can’t” You scoffed, looking around the building. No wonder why you were drawn here.
Druig snatched at your wrist halting you from moving, he couldn’t let you go now and he wouldn’t. If he had to fight death for your immortality then that was exactly what he was going to do for you to stay. He’d waited centuries for this moment and even though he thought this moment was something he had made up, the thought of reincarnation was slightly laughable.
“But it is, princess” the smirk on his lips rested so nicely.
“How is this even possible?” You questioned, swallowing the other questions. Those dreams weren’t dreams at all, they were flashbacks.
“That’s one question I can’t answer but what I do know is. We have a lot of talking to do.”
