@napples
sorry iâm reblogging this again but this just makes me so fucking angry. this reminds me of those dudes running game of thrones who had virtually no experience and were allowed to just. treat a multimillion dollar franchise as their little fuck-around-and-learn-about-tv sandbox. why are white men with no credentials allowed to get away with this over and over again while the rest of us have to fight tooth and nail for literal crumbs. i fucking hate the entertainment industry
The cast of the Original Trilogy had cliched, boring character concepts that were executed wonderfully enough for it not to matter.Â
 The cast of the Prequel Trilogy had interesting concepts that were executed poorly enough to make them seem utterly stupid.Â
The cast of the Sequel Trilogy had amazing, thought-provoking concepts that were executed in the town square and put up on pikes as a warning to others.
This post is blowing up again so let me address some of the most common comments Iâve gotten:Â
âThe OT characters werenât cliche when they were made!âÂ
Yes, yes they were. The basic character concepts were lifted wholly from samurai films, westerns, and old sci-fi serials. The movies took those characters in interesting directions, but the initial forms weâre introduced to had been done a hundred times before.
âWhatâs so great about the sequel trilogy character concepts?âÂ
What makes the characters of the sequel trilogy as they are introduced in TFA so good is that they each exist in conversation with the tropes and events of the Original Trilogy. Thereâs a kid who grew up poor in a desert world, like Luke, but while Lukeâs life is shown to be mostly dreary and domestic, Reyâs alone and surviving by herself, giving her a very different perspective. (Not to mention that pre-retcon sheâs a powerful force user who isnât tied to or defined by her bloodline, but is desperate to find some way to fit her story into that narrative)Â Finn is a stormtrooper, one of the faceless minions that the original films donât really want us to even register as people, but heâs an individual who realizes heâs on the wrong side and learns to live a life outside of the Empire/FO. Poe is the son of Rebellion-era war heroes, he was raised in the direct shadow of the events of the original films and as such approaches the OT heroes from a VERY different perspective than the other characters. And even Kylo is shown as someone who desperately wants to be Darth Vader but clearly isnât up to the task. Those are all VERY interesting concepts for the heroes and villain of a followup to the Original Trilogy.
if I were a jedi iâd also want black robes, it may signal my downfall but man I just canât do beige
A dumb comic about Grievousâ collection~
I love everything about this đĽşđ¤Ł
Weâre going to win this war not by fighting what we hate, but saving what we love.
The worst thing about Kylo Renâa character is that they never followed though with what they set up. Iâm of course talking about his dress and nothing else. In episode VII he has this awesome floor length gown and I really liked it and then in the other movies he got a tunic and pants.
Force Awakens:
Last Jedi / Rise of Skywalker:
Guys, that gown was awesome! I miss it so much. They got rid of it and his character went straight to hell. I see a direct coronation.
I miss his dress. He looked like some unholy, beautiful, fiery, fucked-up monk.
I do miss the swish.
