I wrote some smut and posted it.
Naren - The Class
“Why aren’t you taking notes?” Zaelith whispered to Aeramin. They both sat on the same bench in the barn as the horse-riding instructor demonstrated how to saddle a horse. Aeramin’s notebook was empty.
“I thought this was common knowledge,” Aeramin replied. “Wait, you know even less about this than me?” Zaelith had helped him pay for this, his first extra-curricular class, but he thought for certain his boyfriend had ridden a horse at some point before coming to Thril Gandir.
“We had horses in the desert, but I never really went near them. We were only five when we came here. How do you remember anything at all?”
“I don’t know. I remember my father going over everything. It was only a short time before the mages came to bring me here. He told me about everything on the farm before I left. I’ll admit I’ve forgotten a lot of it, but I still know how a horse should be saddled. Can’t you just use your ability to figure out some horse knowledge or something?” Aeramin asked. His own specialty was pyromancy with some proficiency with other elements. Many other students could claim the same. Zaelith, on the other hand, was unique in the mage complex. He was the seer of the past.
“Why should I tire myself sifting through history to look at horses when I can just pay attention in class?”
Aeramin shrugged. He supposed he had a point.
Naren - Pursuing Wisdom
There they were, pursuing wisdom, and Silvyr Starsurge couldn’t have been more proud. He watched as his young son, Zaelith, took his seat near the front of the room. Most parents weren’t allowed to enter Thril Gandir any further than the visiting rooms unless they themselves were mages either living in the complex or accompanied by an adahi, a companion meant to protect the mage. However, Silvyr had made a considerable donation to the mage complex when he made his request. He did not want to miss this important day in his son’s life.
As the group of five-year-olds continued filing into the room and taking their seats, colorful runes floated over the blackboard, and letters of three major languages lined the walls. Silvyr recognized all three. Elven was his own native language, but he traded with many of the other races who passed through the oasis. He could converse in both Human and the common language, which was a mix of both elven and human with some dwarven influence as well. Common was the first thing that was taught at Thril Gandir, but they had assured him that his son would be taught both Elven and Human as well.
Zaelith’s eyesight wasn’t good. Even with his thick glasses, he could not see very far away. Not that it mattered now. His son had already begun to show signs of his own particular gift and had been declared the seer of the past. It meant that he was unlikely to be strong in any other type of magic, but with proper training, he would be able to see things that happened in the past with great clarity. Silvyr could only imagine what kind of advantage that would give him on tests. He’d have perfect recall of the lessons, whether he attended them or not.
Of course, he’d have not only an advantage on tests but an advantage in life. He was destined to become a very important and influential person, merely because of his gift. There were only three seers at a time. One for the future, one for the present and one for the past, and right now, it was only the one for the past, his son, whose location was known. He would spend his days in Thril Gandir gathering knowledge and growing wise. Perhaps he’d even advise the council someday.
Silvyr watched as the teacher stepped to the front of the room. She introduced herself in all three languages, then asked the children to each introduce themselves. She asked “What is your name?” in all three languages to the first few students, but after, she asked only in the common language. After they had all said their names, she started showing them the different letters. Silvyr noticed she paid special attention to Zaelith to make sure he was able to see each one. With the students engaged in their lesson, and he stepped quietly out the door. He planned to stay at the inn on the island a few more days before parting and hoped that would be plenty of time to make sure Zaelith was settled in.

My second doll who’s character is gay is Zaelith Starsurge. He is the Seer of the Past, and makes his first appearance in my novels in the second book (currently being edited!)
Naren - The Juppar
(( My prompt this week was ‘rich’. I have three characters who could be described that way from the start. I decided to go with Zaelith. ))
“Who is this?” Sylvir Starsurge demanded as soon as Zaelith entered the room.
“Father, this is my roommate, Aeramin Firewind. It’s his 20th Name Day as well, except his parents are unable to visit. I was hoping he would be welcome to join us.” Zaelith answered. The room had been decorated with tapestries and rugs from the western desert, where he had spent his first few years. The regular chairs of the room had been removed and low benches had been added along one wall. A female servant that his father had brought along with him, stood next to him holding a bowl of grapes. His father’s long, flowing robes had fine jewels and embroidery, and his headdress had a row of gems dangling across his forehead. His long dark hair was braided and hung over his left shoulder, slipping like a snake past his sharp features of his dark tan face. Each finger on his hand had a different ring. Zaelith tried to guess the gemstone of each as his father reached for a grape.
Sylvir looked at the other elf, studying him for a moment before asking, “Why didn’t he go to see them? Is he a seer as well?”
Most mages could leave to visit their parents, if they had a temporary adahi assigned to them. Zaelith was an exception as his rare ability to see the past with crystal clarity was well-protected by Thril Gandir. However, temporary adahis were not free. “His parents are farmers and cannot afford the cost of a temporary adahi to be assigned to him so that he can visit them.” Zaelith answered.
He noticed Aeramin looked down at his feet as he stated the reason to his father. He frowned slightly at Aeramin’s inability to follow directions. Had he not told him to maintain eye contact while discussing his presence there? Not doing so would be an admission that he was not worthy of being in the same room.
His father did not hesitate to seize upon the moment, “I think your friend should go celebrate with the other farmers who are too poor to leave or have visitors, don’t you?”
Zaelith opened his mouth to protest, but Aeramin was already heading towards the door. He sighed lightly. It would have to be something he worked out with him later. There was no time to go chasing after lovers when his father was here visiting.
He waited for the door to shut behind Aeramin before speaking again. “I missed you. How are my brothers and sisters?” He had two of each. Both of his brothers were older, and his sisters were younger. He was the middle child, and the only with any magical ability at all. The trips to visit him were long, but his family still did it.
“They are well. Your mother is still too ill to travel, but she asked me to pass on her wishes of health and happiness in your 20th year.”
Zaelith nodded. He wished he could see her. His father was good to visit with, but his mother was much less formal. He had her soft features, blond hair and light skin, though hers was freckled and tanned by the sun. The only thing he got from his father was his bad eyesight and blue eyes. He admitted there was irony in being a seer who couldn’t see very well. Luckily, the glasses his father had purchased from the dwarves in the mountains bordering the desert worked quite well.
“I’ve brought something for you.” He picked a package up from the bench beside him and handed it to Zaelith. Zaelith sat next to his father and began to open the package. It had been wrapped in a simple brown paper, but what he pulled out was anything but simple. It was a long flowing robe, much like his father’s — no, even nicer. He was speechless. Only adults who passed their trials wore an outfit like this.
“I spoke with our council about allowing you to wear the juppar. They did not agree at first, but I was, at last, able to convince them. Do you like it? Your mother picked it out. She said it would go well with your eyes. I was hoping it would be a surprise. I had it wrapped in a enchanted paper which should have prevented magical meddling, perhaps even by your gift.”
“Like it? I love it! I had no idea! Father, thank you so much. I wish to go try it on now. May I?”
Sylvir nodded. Zaelith grinned and went to the nearest empty room to change.
I had a choice of playing WoW, playing FFXIV, writing, or drawing tonight. I haven’t arted in a long time so I scribbled this guy out. I also wrote a bit, but it’s for the book, so I have nothing else to post. :)
Anyway, this is Zaelith Starsurge. He is the seer of the past, and makes his first appearance in my second book, which should be out in early 2018 if I buckle down and write it before then. =P
