How yall feel bout werewolves
you've gotta be kind to yourself no matter what
this is twice as true in the winter
the world isn't ending and you don't need to kill yourself it's literally december. it's december. and you need to be nice to yourself.
Ever witness something that just makes you go;
I am begging you. Please learn about stress/discomfort tolerance. Practice raising it. You need this to survive. If someone online can ruin your day with a throwaway comment, you desperately need to understand discomfort tolerance and consciously, systematically build that shit.
Also! Stress tolerance is such an important skill that having a learning disability in that area is a major symptom of a whole lot of other disabilities/mental illnesses! Struggling with it is a huge part of life! It sucks!
Am I saying everyone with misophonia needs to listen to chewing noises all day? No. But you need to find ways to tolerate it enough that you don't treat others like shit if they make a mouth noise near you.
No, you don't have to read the fic with your trigger tags. But you do need to be able to handle scrolling past the tags without being upset.
It is hard! But not having it also makes you so so so easy to manipulate. That grandma is racist AF because her mom raised her to be uncomfortable around black people and she never fought that discomfort. Trans people make so many cis people uncomfortable and that discomfort turns into bigotry real fast.
Letting your discomfort dictate your actions and beliefs about things is a great way to become a terrible person. Learn. Discomfort. Tolerance.
STOP! before you decide you are irretrievably doomed, try one of the following options:
transition
bdsm
iron supplements
sleep study
ADHD medication
DBT
vitamin D
go outside for an hour and observe birds
eat a snack
drink water
Maybe do these in reverse order
30 minute posters in VR!
Recently got myself a VR headset set, and this silly painting game.
some more value studies I did recently.. its a really fun exercise and i think you should try it out ^_^
Timelapse for the second one here, warning for flashing though its a bunch of black and white strokes
Ooo I want to do this!
do you have any art books you'd reccomend? its hard to find ones that feel like theyre helping me improve
So it's hard to give a recommendation of the dome. It depends on the topics you're studying, and if you prefer books that focus a lot on explaining the science behind art OR if you like books that focus on demonstration a lot, or a mix etc.
I'll just give you the books I've used, but of course those are what worked for ME, and might not be what you're looking for
Art fundamentals (2nd edition) by 3dtotal - this book is a really good stepping stone in collecting many of the fundamentals that people talk about with more technical explanations. It tends to solve the issue of "what do i study next?", because you can just open it up and find something you think you're lacking.
Morpho collection by Michel Lauricella - A very popular anatomy book collection. The main morpho book (just called mopho anatomy for artists) is about technical explanations of the body in general, while the other booklets focus on specific parts of the body (muscles, fat, bones etc) and tends to be more of a schematics collection.
Framed perspective vol 1 and 2 by Marcos Mateu-Mestre - I like recommending these book more over perspective made easy for perspective studying, because imo i dont actually like pme's approach in simplifying things TOO much. I like that framed perspective goes very slow and technical over breaking down things. A lot more shape usage which makes things click faster than just rawdogging it with real life objects immediately
Color and Light by James Gurney - THE father of all painting tutorials. Half of the shit you hear in tutorials or from youtubers originates from this book. Scientific explanations, theory, and the various type of lighting and how they look... this book is incredible
Light for visual artists by Richard Yot - A book you should probably use if you're using color and light. While c&l focuses on the wide picture, explaining how light works in an environment, light for visual artists focuses on the object, how light hits certain things at certain poses. They do have some overlap, but overall a great complement to color and light.
I hope this helps and honestly i recommend just looking into art resources to find books of certain topics, browing the internet archive etc. Go wild have fun
Here's some art tips from a (mostly) self taught artist that aren't just "practice a lot ^_^"
Most paid premade art courses (i.e lessons are youtube videos/written lessons) are a waste of money. They go through the same fundamentals everyone does and tend to talk about concepts and terms originating from popular books such as andrew loomis' bibliography or james gurney's color and light. just buy (or pirate) the books about the topic you wish to learn about instead.
in contrast, art courses that focus on tutoring you, even if not 1:1 (i.e its a class) are extremely valuable. they are very expensive though so I won't act like you Must do them.
in the same vein of premade art courses, most tutorials/youtube videos are also information from books of art masters through insane degrees of separation. They're free so its not like theyre bad but they slowly erase any nuance and educational lessons that the books offered in trade for being easy to put in a 10 minute video. they may be good introductions but if you ever feel like they dont give much that's why.
the reason why "just practice" feels unhelpful is because each area of art has multiple methods of practicing it, some of which are not interchangeable, and are not common knowledge. here's some ways I practice:
precursor practice that helps you in all areas -> learning about shapes. the volume of boxes, cylinders, spheres, how they move in 3d space, how they can be cut, interpolated, etc. put them in a perspective grid, try layering shapes and cutting them up.
human anatomy -> learn about muscle and bone placement, and how they move. study the shapes and planes of the body, what is hard vs soft. gesture drawing if youre stuck on poses and dynamics
light and shadow -> learn to simplify objects via planes and how those planes are illuminated, where the light positions itself and why (is it the sun? a lantern? a lightbulb?), learn about the science of light such as the different types of shadow and how light bounces. pick up photos and find the light source.
its fine to take long breaks from art. drawing everyday is not super useful and only works for a few people. yes youll have rust but its very easy to shake it off.
if you learn how to get joy from the action of drawing over the results of drawing, studies will feel less like a chore and youll be less reliant on an art piece turning out good to not feel miserable.
if the only art community you have is your followers/social media you will go crazy. your audience has no obligation of enjoying every single piece of yours and alienating them will make things worse. find actual art friends where you can have conversations about your art so you dont feel so reliant on social media numbers.
appreciate art that isnt other illustrative art. find joy in abstract sculptures, architecture, music, novels, the world around you etc.
yes materials help a lot but if you dont have experience then you'll not see a big difference in output. you also need to learn to use those materials before being able to draw how other artists do.
no matter how good you are, you will always make art that you see as bad/lower quality. those artists you think only make bangers are still feeling bad because some of those bangers are not good to them. learn to come to terms that nothing you make will be a hit or satisfy you, and move on.
I wanna draw something poorly, anyone have any requests?
Examples of what to expect but worse, lel.

Day 3 (02-05-2025) of trying to learn how to draw Curly from the hit game Mouthwashing, in a way that I find aesthetically pleasing.
All of these are drawn without a reference. Today I focused on trying to figure out how to go about drawing his face with shapes and how far or how close his facial features could be that could hit that aesthetic look I want.
So far I’m really liking the first page (left page) the top right and bottom left drawings are close to how I want to draw curly. Not exact but close. Now to break down the shapes I used even more to see if I can replicate the look, then see if I can alter it to be more beefy because curly is FIT.
I’m hoping I can find a way to draw curly in a consistent way because I have 2 animations due on the 15th relating to him. The struggle of being in a Multi animator project that I personally signed up for lol.
Day 2 (04-30-2025) of me learning how to draw curly from the hit game Mouthwashing.
One day later and I’m definitely seeing the improvement! but I haven’t figured out how to curly comfortably yet. I’m getting there though! I’m finding a process that I like to make him easier to draw and make him easier for me to animate, wooo!
This day was done using little to no references cause I wanted to try and breakdown how I was drawing him, not how to break down someone else’s work. The only reference used is from the in game 3Dmodel and that drawing is the top left corner in the first(left) image.
Day 1 (29-04-2025) of learning how to draw Curley from the hit game Mouthwashing.
Major studies from the in game model of Curley and assorted amount of Curley fan art I found on Google. (I’m going to make another post with the references/artists that I was using to study because this is the third time I’ve tried making this post and me copying and pasting form safari on mobile cause this post to evaporate twice orz)
This scene from one of the Suicide Squad movies reminded me of team ENA so I had to animate it ✨This drawing helped me a lot with the posing of the shotgun!!
