Insunâs gaze immediately switched from the adult to the child by her at the sound of his voice, and she suddenly found herself trying very hard not to coo over how sweet the little boy was. She waited for the woman (his mother?) to answer him before she did, as the question was evidently directed at both of them, and smiled brightly when he skipped over and politely handed her the fee. She copied his bow with a grin, charmed by his adorable attempts at proper manners. âI can certainly try!â she answered, directing him to sit down in the seat opposite her before she reached for her paints.
âHeâs adorable,â she commented a few minutes later once sheâs outlined the design on his face, the boy sitting as still as possible for her the whole time. Her gaze flitted to the woman he was with. âHeâs the best behaved kid Iâve had all day. Is he yours?â
At the girlâs compliment, Nari couldnât help but beam with pride. After all, Chulsoo was her pride and joy and her most treasured thing in the world. When others noticed how special and amazing he was, it made her heart swell with happiness. He was the one thing that had gone right in her life.
âYes, luckily, heâs mine.â Was all she could manage to say, nodding and still smiling at her boy. Each time Insun started a new line on his face, his nose would twitch and heâd let out a small giggle. âHeâs very well-behaved. He has good genes. I think heâll be an adorable monkey.â

jjxhaneul:
@narixjj He was in the neighborhood. That is certainly what he is going to tell Nari the moment she opens the door and looks at his perfect face with that deadpan look she wears twenty-four seven. Haneul canât even say he is not used to it or the eye rolling or the little human that comes attached to her and happens to have taken a liking to the taller boy.Â
Nari is probably more of an older sister than his own older sister is. In fact, he talks more with Nari than he does with his sister although there are no regrets there, really. He supposes itâs a matter of interests simply not combining, two people who are so completely different in both the way they act and think that itâs impossible for them to fully connect. Itâs not like she hates him or anything, she just thinks heâs better where he is which is probably the one thing they agree on. Who knows, maybe they would have gotten along if their family situation was different.Â
Haneul knows that Nari knows a bit of how money works in a family that has too much, she knows how it is to have no choice when it comes to things that are imposed and the heavy burden of the expectancy hovering over oneâs head. Haneul never had to impress anyone, heâs lucky in that front but he never had a chance to try anyway. (not that he would take it).
He knocks on the door a couple of times, leans on the opposite side of the door frame and then knocks again because he was never patient anyway. The door is opened (finally!) and he does little or nothing to move from his comfortable position but he does stretch his hand. A package is presented to her.Â
âThe mailman trusted me with this after I said I lived here too. I think you need a better mailman.âÂ
Just like any other afternoon, Nari was enjoying a quiet afternoon at home with her son. Her parents had taken the day to go out shopping together which gave the woman a chance to relax. Things were going normally. The Pororo theme song playing softly in the background as Chulsoo lay on the carpet, surrounded by colouring books. He was always so at peace when he could be creative and that, in turn, allowed Nari to be in peace.
Until the tell-tale knock of a not-so-welcome guest. Before she even opened the door, Nari had a hunch of who it could be and when she opened the door to the correct answer, she didnât feel like much of a winner. His face is pretty and reminds her of how Chulsoo might look when heâs grown up. Perhaps thatâs why she tolerates him. That, and the fact that her son enjoys having a hyung around as well.
âI think you need to stop telling people youâre my son.â She grabbed the package with a bit of force, narrowing her eyes on the younger male. âDo you know how many times the ahjummas downstairs have asked which aging serum I use?â

junhoxjj:
Junho would usually avoid events like these because he didnât like meeting people, starting conversations or basically doing anything that wasnât being on his own company. It was a constant struggle, one he did not enjoy at all, but sometimes circumstances forced him to act like he wouldnât do often and it was why he was here, hating every minute of it but only waiting for the race. After all, there was only one person he would do this for and that was his sister.
Greeting at the person who approached him, he looked around, hands inside his pockets. âYou didnât?â It was curious for him to know what people thought of him, not because he cared, but Nari hadnât seen him in a long time, so of course he was curious to know why she would say such thing.
"I figured youâd be busy, or asleep. Or maybe that's just what I want to do. If I knew you'd be here, I would've come earlier." She shrugged and chuckled. If Chulsoo hadn't wanted to come so badly to cheer on his aunt, Nari would've liked just staying home and enjoying a night in. But she supposed it wasn't all bad. So far the night had been enjoyable and seeing Junho again made it that much better.
"I keep forgetting how small the island really is. I guess it's easier to bump into friends here than in the city." Glancing down at the kimbap in her arms, Nari smiled and offered one of them out. "Have you eaten?" She winced and bowed her head at her accidental use of satoori. After spending so long in Busan, most of her Jeju dialect had a good mix of Busan slang mixed in. Normally she'd be a bit more apologetic, but since it was such a close friend, Nari didn't think he'd care.Â
"I bought an extra for my father-in-law, but I can always buy more if you want this one. Are you busy right now?"

Nari slowed her pace as she weaved her way through the booths. The atmosphere of the Orange Festival truly brought back memories of her childhood, good ones and bad ones. Of course, when she was young there werenât nearly as many people or attractions, but the fact that such a small event had turned into such a big tradition was amazing.
One thing that hadnât changed, thankfully, was the food. All the ahjummas in the city always made the most amazing food youâd ever eat and Nari had often told Chulsoo and Chanmo about it. For the first time now, she was able to prove her words to one of them. But as she exited the crowd with large foil-wrapped kimbap in hand, she spotted the familiar face. Of course, she should have known. The blast to the past with the island traditions wouldnât be quite the same without old friends as well.
âJun-ssi,â Quickly making her way over to him, Nari smiled as she caught her breath. âI didnât think youâd come.â @junhoxjj

Insun smiled to herself as she delicately swiped the brush across the childâs face, putting the finishing touches on the design theyâd picked. Though she wasnât the best artist in the world, she was reasonably proficient at the craft, and painting was always something sheâd enjoyed. Sheâd also always liked kids, so when she heard that a face painting booth for the Orange Festival needed volunteers, sheâd immediately enquired further and signed up to help out. It was her first Orange Festival, since sheâs only been in Jeju a little over half a year, and she thought what better way to take part than by making both herself and others happy through an activity that united her love of painting and of children?
After adding the last few dots for whiskers to the girlâs face, Insun placed her brush down and grinned at her. âThere. You are officially the cutest lion Iâve ever seen.â She waved when the little girl skipped back to her mother once sheâd handed Insun the money, and looked around for the next person. Earlier, thereâd been a long line, but it had slowed off a little since. Her eyes landed on someone who was decidedly not a child standing near the front of the queue, and raised an eyebrow, unable to tell if they were in the queue or not. âYou want a tiger or a butterfly?â she called out jokingly, waving her brush in the air at the aforementioned person.
Youâd think one would be used to it after five years, but Nari still couldnât understand how such a little boy had so much energy. Not that she was complaining. Seeing her son be so active and happily spending his childhood doing things he loved was the best gift he could give to her. After a moment, Nari was finally able to catch up to Chulsoo as he stood before a pretty young woman.
âButterflies would be too pretty on me. Can I be a monkey?â His question was aimed towards both women as he swapped his gaze from his mother to Insun. Nari chuckled and nodded, handing the boy a small wad of cash to give to the lady. Happily, he skipped over and held out the money, offering a formal bow to her when she accepted it.
âCan you make me a cute monkey?â He asked again, hoping Insun would say yes.
His polite speech paired with such odd words made her laugh. âYouâre already my cute monkey, but if she can make you cuter, Iâll be impressed!â
