there's plenty of unjustified seething hatred towards female characters, but so much of the time it's just apathy. sure, we like that one - she's so mom-coded/big sister-coded/wine aunt-coded. isn't she so hot when she blends into the background of her (male) friend group? she's their found family, she's their sole brain cell, she's their caretaker, she's whatever space demands filling in the group picture. she's never going to be the focus of her own artwork. no, no, we would never dislike a woman for getting in the way of our m/m ship! we just push her aside, into the arms of the closest other woman. look, we gave her a girlfriend, okay? she's totally a mean lesbian. her relationship will get a single mention in our multichapter slash fic, and of course we're going to tag her because we like her. just because we don't talk about her doesn't mean we don't like her! i mean, authors really don't know how to write women anyway. that's not our fault. we like her just fine, she's just not our favorite, you know? whatever her name was.
