The young man had hopped onto the counter in the kitchen, helping himself to the informal seat because he didn’t want to be on his feet for the moment. The ingredients for the classic ham and cheese sandwich lay out beside him, his paper plate there as well with his lunch half made. He was on break, or at least would be officially in three minutes. What was three minutes? A lot could happen in such little time. His hands were shaky and he didn’t realize it, eyes cast down at the clean, tiled floor in what looked to be a daze. Lost in his own mind.

His thoughts were definitely elsewhere. Occupied without that handsome and genuine smile he usually donned. That genuine smile he naturally wore and wanted everyone else to have. Here, now, where no one else could see him, he let the happy exterior falter in the silence that consumed the kitchen. His cell phone rested heavy in his pant pocket where he had received a phone call from the nurse he was paying to take care of his mother while he was here at work. Coughing up blood again. That’s what the woman had informed him of. It was almost enough to almost wheel his mother off to the hospital again in a panic. This was the second time he hadn’t been home while it happened. The second time that the bleeding stopped and the nurse was able to have it under control and supervision.

It made Adam anxious, unnerved, and serious. All things he was careful not to let people see. It put somewhat of a barrier between himself and reality, managing to block out the sound of footsteps from someone entering the kitchen and catching him off guard.

Natalie stared down at the patients from the roof, smoking a cigarette. Sometimes, she'd sneak one, here and there. She put out the cigarette flicking it down. She rubbed her tired eyes, smudging her make-up. She jogged down the stairs to the hall. It was quiet, oddly enough. It always seemed quiet to Nat without Billy running up and down the halls. She adverted her gaze to the clock on the wall. The ticking clear to her.

She rubbed the back of her neck, as she walked to the kitchen. She noticed a face she had never seen before, but the half made food. She walked over, slapping the sandwich together. She took a bite from it, noticing that concern and worry were written all over him. "The fuck is matter with you?" she asked curiously, hopping on the counter across from him. "hand me a water, yea?"

I’m the King and Batman, there’s no rules about not being both. Not joking either, people seem to get really scared when I go invisible and talk behind them in a deep Batman voice and it’s hilarious.
