Who Are You, Really?
Something in Danielle’s eyes changed as the familiar name entered the air. She tensed up, as if preparing herself for the wave a unwanted memories that was about to hit her. She shook off the feeling and let out a dry laugh. “I haven’t heard that name in so long, it’s… strange… Hearing it again, I mean.” She couldn’t help but notice the girl’s own discomfort, but put it down to being nervous. Who wouldn’t be nervous coming to a strangers house and asking them about a murderer? “Anyway, yes, come in, dear.” She led the girl into the living room, offering her a seat on the blue one-seater. “I was just about to make some tea, would you like any?” She found it strange that she picked Holden out of all the possibilities, or that she even found him. After all, he’d only been in the war for what? A year or two? She scolded herself for her judgments. Just because she was unwilling to think of him, didn’t mean she had to punish this girl.
Natalie nodded, trying hard to think of what to say, "I'm sorry this is so...awkward and weird, but I really need this for my research project. It's part of my thesis. I plan on getting my masters in psycology. I've read some papers, and you're name came up." she went on, hoping to just get the woman to let her in to shut her up. Sighing, she followed the woman and cracked her knuckles. The sound made her cringe, but nonetheless she sat down and crossed her legs. Right away, she tucked her hands under her thighs. "tea would be great, thanks." she nodded to the older woman. Reaching into her satchel, Natalie pulled out a crinkled piece of paper and a pen. Clicking the pen open she wrote some quick notes on the woman in front of her. Clearing her throat, she started with the obvious, "What was Holden like when you met him, before the war. Any family? Friends? How old was he?"
