genevieve-bishop-petra:
“You know how irrational people can be - it all seems very strange to me, something just doesn’t add up you know? But I guess we just have to stay on the sidelines for now.”
“It’s just...” Nat’s voice trailed off into a frustrated grunt as she struggled to process what happened while she was so disconnected. “How do people not think before they act? Honestly, what were they hoping to achieve with this whole thing? It’s just so, so dumb, you know?”
sybil-oleary:
Sybil’s smile mirrored Nat’s as she grabbed another couples bags of chips as well. “Thanks. I don’t think I’ll take something now, but I’ll try cashing in on it on another day.” With that, she gathered everything and started toward the elevator.
“Hey, just remember: the offer still stands,” Nat replied with a small grin. As they were walking, she immediately wiggled her fingers through the little space she had, opening a bag of Cheetos. As she stuffed a few into her mouth, Nat turned to Sybil with a question in mind, “Wait, so, what’s been happening out...here, lately? I’ve been sort of a hermit for the past two days.”
caleb-miller:
Caleb shook his head and said, “Energy before a major crash maybe.” He laughed at her stone face expression, knowing that there had to be some hint of joking to her words. “Very funny…although I don’t blame you for not wanting to share your food. I’d be happy to take one of those potato chip bags off your hands, though.”
“Nope, nope, it’s all good. I’m all good,” Nat said with as much conviction as she could muster, even attempting to flash a thumbs-up, although the only thing that did was loosen her grip on the bag of chips, and, ultimately -- and ironically -- dropping it to the ground. Grunting as she heard the foil crash against the floor, Nat gave a small nod as she replied, “Alright, didn’t see that coming. Maybe I do need a bit of help.”
narikim--agma:
Nari listened to Natalia’s explanation, arms crossed. “Sure, you need calories to get through training. You have that fact on your side when choosing such snacks. There are healthier ways to reach your minimum caloric intake, however. Proteins and vegetables and fruits, for instance.” Nari’s own diet was a very delicate balancing act. Her power relied on her internal body temperature being lower than most, and too many calories tended to inhibit that. However, she also needed enough energy for the more physical aspects of her training. This was one among many reasons why she couldn’t allow herself junk food, the other reasons being mostly personal. “You don’t need to explain your dietary choices to me. I don’t really care.”
Nat looked up and raised her eyebrows as she nodded continuously, seemingly considering what Nari had been saying. Truth be told, she hasn’t been listening all that much. Her mind had wandered off a few sentences ago, although she did catch the last part of what the other girl was saying. Something suddenly pulled her back to the ground as she was somehow able to form an actual coherent response: “Ah, yeah, that might be true,” She paused for a fraction of a second before adding, “But you did care enough to give me advice about what I should and shouldn’t eat; and actually stopped and took the time to tell me all about it.” She pointed out with a little smirk.
august-whit:
Augustus set about getting the ingredients to make himself a sandwich, moving the things he needed from the fridge to a counter without touching them; since he’d probably drop the things otherwise. Augustus grinned, amused by her antics, though his brow furrowed inquisitively. “I’m not sure I follow you. Uno, as in the card game- but not the card game?”
Nat breathed in deeply -- and rather loudly -- as she gave a committed nod. Despite her ability to think relatively quickly, her explanation of things didn’t seem to express the mess of her thoughts very well. “Alright, so,” She began with a purse of her lips, “It’s basically the online, mobile version of the game. You sorta play with other players like you usually do, but the app chooses your opponents by random and you can’t exactly play with friends, and all that junk.” She finished with a rather satisfied grin, happy that she was able to make more sense this time around.
genevieve-bishop-petra:
“How are you surviving? You must have a ton of cavities.” Genevieve shook her head at the other girl. “There was an attack on a mutant hate group - by mutants. It’s all over the news.”
“Yeesh, I hope not,” Nat furrowed her brows as her expression morphed into a slight face of worry. Then she heard about what happened while she was off hacking into the system of a stupid mobile app. “There was a what? Why would someone be so illogical to even consider the thought of that? How does that help anyone?” Apart from the fact that she knew that people like her -- mutants -- would suffer the consequences of someone else’s actions, she was agitated because of how idiotic this whole thing was.
task #002: moodboard
▻ ❝ Actually, there aren't that many scientific errors in Star Trek, especially considering how long ago it was made. There are certain improbabilities, but not that many outright errors. ❞
Uptown Girl - Billy Joel (An Innocent Man, 1983)
task #001: priced possession
It’s a dumb piece of junk – Natalia’s ‘priced possession’. She remembers she was 14 when everything was flipped – literally. The air was cool that day; but not the kind of cold that would chill you to the bone – it was the kind that seemed still yet tense. The only thing that could beat that tension was the perturbed silence that hung between Natalia and her father. Then she opened her mouth, regrettably so.
august-whit:
August had just come in from training. He wasn’t making any noticeable progress on perfecting his vector fields, though he spent about an hour out in the woods, and decided to take a break before he got too upset with himself. His eyes widened at the sight of Nat in the kitchen, arm full of junk food. He grinned slightly. “At ease. I’m here for the same purpose you are.” He made his way to the fridge. “What’re you working on lately, Natalia?” Augustus was always interested in the projects Natalia got into, he wished he had the skill she did with technology.
A sigh of relief immediately slipped past Nat’s lips as he spoke. Alright, so she wasn’t going to get into trouble today for eating (and hogging) more junk food than she should, yet again. “Eh, nothing...significant,” She instantly thought about attempting to crack the system of her UNO game -- and successfully doing so. “You’ve heard of the game UNO, right? Not the actual card game, but like, the application. It’s not like there’s a difference, but...you get the deal.” She stopped herself with a curt laugh before she could blabber any further.
sybil-oleary:
Sybil laughed softly as she picked up the soda. “Since you have an extra set of hands, let’s grab a couple extra snacks for you,” she offered as she reached for another can of soda.
Nat felt herself crack a huge grin. “I love the way you think!” She replied with the enthusiasm in her voice as evident as the enthusiasm in her smile. “Alright, you know what, I wasn’t planning on sharing -- this stuff is precious, you know -- but you can definitely take whatever you want from my little stash.” She said with a smalllaugh.
narikim--agma:
Nari raised a brow, gesturing to the food in Natalia’s hands. “Somehow I think you could manage that.” She rolled her eyes. “It’s none of my business what you put into your body, no matter how bad for you it is. I prefer to eat foods that will make me healthier, fitter so I can be of use to my team, not slowed down by heavy calories.” Junk food was unacceptable to Nari. The thought of eating so poorly made her itch for a run or an extra yoga session. “I’ll leave you to your feast. Word of advice, darker chocolate is better for you.”
“Woah, hey, no need to say...all that,” Nat tried to raise her hands, feigning surrender, although the items in her hands did nothing but constrict her movement. “Look, I know all this,” She began, the expression on her face sort of morphing into slight confidence as she started to feel confidence in her words as well. Not that she didn’t appreciate the advice -- she just didn’t like being out-knowledgeable. “With roughly 900 calories in a bag of chips -- and considering I’m prospectively eating 2 -- I’ll be consuming around 1800 calories today, plus the 140 from the can of soda, leaving us with a total of 1940. Seeing as I train and exert physical effort, I’ll be burning even more calories than, well, the average human. I’m actually short by around 60 calories in order to maintain a healthy amount of calories.” She said matter-of-factly, getting slightly carried away with her explanation. “Besides, I work behind the screen. Not a lot of weighing down there.”
caleb-miller:
Caleb was trying to think of a reason besides a party that someone would be taking two bags of chips back to their room. Nat was amusing. She was always a little awkward, which just made it fun to be around her. There were so many people at this school who were way too caught up in making sure that they appeared to have it all together and never let themselves have moments of awkwardness. Her authenticity was kind of a breath of fresh air. “Snack?” he laughed, “More like a meal. Tell me you’re at least sharing some of that with someone.”
"Hey, I mean, it sorta constitutes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for me right now,” Nat pointed out with a little smirk. “Besides, it’s well-balanced enough -- to an extent -- to give me a good kicker, you know? Gotta make sure I have enough energy to keep up with my -- um -- ‘busy’ schedule.” The girl attempted to form air quotes around the word ‘busy’, although all she managed to do was give a small wiggle of her fingers. “And this is totally a solo mission. I can’t share my only food. Gotta stock up.” She deadpanned, exaggerating the seriousness in her words a little bit, though she knew fully well that this was probably too much even for her.
genevieve-bishop-petra:
“Well when you come out of your sugar coma there’s chicken and vegetables in the fridge, leftovers from lunch.” She told her grabbing a water bottle from out of the fridge. “By the way did you see the news on the tv?”
At the mention of the words ‘chicken and vegetables’, Nat scrunched her nose and gave a shake of her head. “Euch, healthy food,” She replied with a scrunch of her nose. “Uh...I probably have but, I mean, it’s probably best you refresh my memory, anyway.” Truth be told, apart for spending an hour or two for training, all she’s been doing is hacking the UNO app to always give her a good hand -- she had no clue what was going on in the outside world.
sybil-oleary:
Sybil only blinked as she saw the chocolate fall from her mouth, a small smirk on her lips. In her hands, she held the empty watering can that she went to the kitchen to refill. She calmly walked around her younger teammate and placed the can under the running faucet before picking up the chocolate. “I won’t say anything. You don’t have to share your chocolate,” she told her. “You need any help taking that to your room?”
“Nope, I’m uh...I’m all good.” Nat attempted to do a thumbs-up despite her literal full hands, but only failed to do so. The can of soda fell from her grip as she tried to do the simple gesture, making her grunt in disbelief. It felt right on the bar of chocolate before rolling away towards the kitchen counter. “Alright, maybe I do need a little bit of help.”
