It was actually incredibly comforting. Ava reached over Bea and pressed play on the show. Beatrice fully expected Ava to leave her arm there or to maybe move it to her waist, but instead, Ava’s fingers raked through her hair. Ava’s short nails scratched against her scalp. Bea all but moaned. Before Ava—before her nap the day before—no one had ever played with her hair before, and as a result she’d had no idea it would feel so good.

She felt herself slowly sinking into it. Into the feeling of Ava’s body pressed against her own, into the feeling of her fingers running through her hair. She hadn’t expected to enjoy being held like this, but before the first episode had even finished, Beatrice had fallen peacefully and blissfully asleep.
