And One Day We'll Be Together Again || Nathan&Lady
NathanĀ sat at the edge of his bed, staring at boxes that filled most of the room and then turns his head towards his suitcase that was laying on his bed. It was something he had been considering for quite some time, and honestly, he knew that if he put it off any longer it was never going to happen. And he knew the worst part about the whole thing was leaving people that he became close with, more so than he imagined. Sitting and waiting for the one person he wanted to avoid saying goodbye to the most was causing a small ache in his chest, wiping the palms of his hands over his jeans as he waited for the doorbell.
LadyĀ was actually rather happy that day. The previous night had been rather shitty thanks to a couple people that decided to ruin it for her and Nathan but it was a new day, it was Valentine's Day and she was happy that Nathan had asked her to come over. As soon as she left the Kloset, the blonde made her way straight to Nathan's house after stopping by to get him a box of chocolates. As soon as she was in front of the door, she knocked on it a couple times and waited for him to open, a slight smile on her face.
NathanĀ 's head snapped out of his thoughts when the door sounded, standing up and grabbing the rose he got her from his nightstand and bounded down the stairs. He sucked in a deep breath before pulling the door open, a smile automatically spreading across his face at the sight of the blonde. "Hey," He said quietly, leaning forward and pressing a quick kiss to her lips and then stepping back to let her in. He closed the door behind her, turning to face her and holding out the rose, "Happy Valentine's Day."
LadyĀ 's smile grew wider the moment he opened the door and she got to see him, her eyes closing as she returned the brief kiss he pressed agianst her lips. "Hey." She replied, coming in. "I got you chocol-- aw." She pressed her lips and tilted her head as she saw the rose Nathan was holding in her hand. "You're sweet. Happy Valentine's Day." She repeated, handing him the box of chocolates. "How are you today?"
NathanĀ could feel the weight in his chest as he continued to look at her, feeling guilty about not hinting that there was more to this than just a Valentines Day get together. "I'm okay," he says honestly, swallowing thickly. He smiled at the chocolates, turning them over in his hands before looking at her. "Remember what I said last night? Your promise?" He reminded her, waiting a moment before walking up the stairs and motioning for her to follow.

LadyĀ could feel something wasn't right from the very moment she asked Nathan how he was. Frowning a little, she watched as he grabbed the chocolates box and her eyes widened a little as he reminded her about their last conversation the past night. "What?" She inquired, almost voiceless, and started walking slowly behind him, going up the stairs. Her heart started beating really fast when she came inside his bedroom and found out it was full with boxes. "No." She whispered in a breathy tone, her gaze going down as she could feel her whole body shaking a little. "You're leaving?" She inquired finally right after she turned to face him, swallowing thickly as she waited for an actual answer.
NathanĀ kept his eyes on the floor the entire time they were heading to his room, even when they stood there and he knew she was well aware of what was happening. He nodded his head, "I'm leaving tonight." He said quietly, finally looking up at her. "And I know it's shitty of me, after last night and the past week. And fuck, after everything. But please try to understand that I have to. And I'm so sorry."
LadyĀ frowned, looking at Nathan as she tried to understand the reasons why he was leaving, but she honestly couldn't find any good ones for him to run awayĀ again. "No." She repeated, blinking a couple times and looking away because she could feel her eyes getting teary and she didn't want to make a freaking scene in front of him. "Why are you leaving, why-- why didn't you tell me before?" She mumbled, her voice husky.
NathanĀ "I've never really told you much about my life in Dallas but there isn't much to about it at this point. There's just a lot of things back home that I need to take care of." He licks his lips and shrugged, "I guess I just didn't want anything to change if I told you ahead of time. I wanted things to be the same, and I know I should've told you. But I swear, this has nothing to do with you or anyone. It's about me, and needing to do what I have to and following my dreams. Because let's face it, I'm not a mechanic if there's no cars to work on on a daily basis. But I know what I want now, and that was why I came here." He sighed; taking a step closer to her, "I want you in my life too, even if I'm not here."
LadyĀ tried to keep herself calm while listening to Nathan, and took a deep breath as she attempted to put some words together in her head before speaking. She wanted to tell him how much she understood everything he had told her, to let him know that she wanted him to be happy above anything else, but nothing came out of her mouth, and all her thoughts were about how she didn't want him to leave her alone like many other people had in the past. "You told me you fucking liked me. I haven't been able to stop thinking about that ever since. What the hell am I supposed to do about this now? About my feelings for you?" She inquired, and she barely noticed that by the moment she finished those words she had already started crying accidentally. "You can't-- you can't do that! You can't just tell me your feelings for me after all this time and then run away and leave me fucking alone! Why does everybody always end up leaving me alone?" She sobbed, pressing her lips together and looking down after staring at Nathan for a few seconds, wiping up her tears and sniffling a little. "I'm sorry." She whispered, hating how selfish she was sounding.
NathanĀ shook his head, bringing his hand up to brush his thumb over her cheeks to clear them of tears. "Don't be," he said, sighing and dropping his hand. "I understand," he said honestly, having expected something like this. "I wasn't sure exactly when I was going to leave, but I know that if I kept putting it off I was never going to. I had to tell you how I felt before I did, and I know it's fucked up and me leaving is going to hurt you but I do like you Lady. And I really believe that this could be something amazing, but I told you that I can't give you my everything with fixing everything first." He purses his lips together, chewing on the inside of his lip nervously, "I'm not going to stop thinking about you, and I'm always going to be a phonecall away if you need me." He swallowed thickly, "I didn't do this to fuck with you or be like everyone else, I would never intentionally hurt you and I know this is hurting you anyways but that wasn't my intention. You have to atleast believe that, please."
LadyĀ refused to look at him even when he came closer to wipe up the tears on her cheeks, a mixture of emotions inside of her. She felt ashamed, guilty, selfish, lonely. "Neither am I," she whispered when he told her he wouldn't stop thinking about her. "Fuck, Nathan, you're so important to me." She said, her voice sounding like a groan as she finally decided to raise her head and look at him again. "No, no no no please don't say that I know you, I know you don't wanna hurt me. I just-- I'm sorry." She apologized again, taking a deep breath as she tried to put on a more straight face and clearing her voice because she didn't want to look so weak in front of him. "I believe you." She affirmed, nodding her head slowly. "Is this... going to make you happy?" She inquired, trying her best to put the tiniest smile on her face.
NathanĀ actually felt as if his heart was going to beat out of his chest and not in the good way - that or he was going to puke. He nodded faintly, feeling ashamed for his answer, "Yes, it will." He blinked his eyes rapidly, feeling his own eyes getting a little glassy with ears and his throat constricting. "I'm never going to be fully happy because you won't be around, but this is what I want. And I would love it if you could come with me but I would t do that to you. And I'm not asking you to wait around for me or anything, but fuck, I would really like it if you kept in touch and even considered coming to Dallas if you ever left town or for a vacation or something."
LadyĀ nodded her head quickly as he admitted this was going to make him happy. "Okay." She merely stated, sighing deeply as she grabbed her hands. Frowning a little at his next words, the blonde ended up with a sad smile on her face. "It-- it means the world to me that you've even considered wanting me to go with you, Nathan. And do you wanna know the truth? I would leave with you. I'd get away from this fucking town with you in a heartbeat if my brother hadn't come out of quarantine so recently and after so long." She admitted, not wanting to hide anything from him at this point. "I don't wanna lose touch with you, and if you really want me to go visit when I'm out of here, you know I will." She shrugged, trying her best not to lose the tiny smile on her face because she didn't want him to keep worried about her.
NathanĀ smiled slightly, "Of course I'd want you to come with me, and I know why you can't. Honestly, if I was in your position, I wouldn't leave either." He watched her hands for a moment, reaching out and tentatively taking them in his own and rubbing his thumb over her knuckles. "Then, when you get the chance, call me and come visit me. You're always welcome, you know that." He looked down at the ground for a moment and then back up at her, letting a silence fall between them for a moment before speaking softly, "I'm gonna miss you."
LadyĀ breathed in deeply, pressing her lips together as she kept listening to him while trying not to break down. "I promise you I will. I promised last night, didn't I? I promised that I wouldn't actually leave your side even if you left town." She reminded him, her voice trembling a little, then took advantage of the silence between them to look down and squeeze his hands, only looking back up at him when he spoke again. "Will you?" She inquired, smiling sadly.
NathanĀ nodded, "I know you did. And now you know why I asked you." He admitted in a soft tone, "Thank you, for keeping it. And I'm holding you to it." He couldn't stop the smile that twitched at the corner of his lips, "You know I will." He rocked back on his feet for a moment before looking at her with an eyebrow raised, "Well?" He said teasingly, waiting for her to say it too.
LadyĀ "I wish it would have just been a random question, though." She sighed, pursing her lips as she looked away for a second because she really wasn't expecting him to actually be planning on leaving last night. Her smile came back to her face as soon as he repeated he'd missed her, and when he looked impatient for some kind of answer from her she couldn't help chuckling a little and shaking her head. Instead of saying anything, however, she put herself on her tiptoes and kissed him deeply and tenderly, lingering onto the kiss until she was out of air, when she had to move back. "IĀ loveĀ you." She whispered breathelessly, her eyes fixed on his.
NathanĀ nods once, because honestly, he sort of wished it was too at that point. As he continued to stand there with her, he realized she could be enough to make him stay but he also knew that staying wasn't going to get him where he wanted to go. And that what he was doing was the right thing. When she kissed him, he smiled into it and reciprocated it until they broke apart. He blinked at her, not expecting the next three words to come out of her mouth. He locked his eyes with hers before repeating them back to her, "I love you too." A small smile on his face, his chest feeling lighter than it did before.
LadyĀ was satisfied that he didn't step back when she kissed him, her hands still on his as their lips kept pressed for a while. Nibbling on her lower lip, she nodded at him with a slight smile still on her lips. "And for the record, IĀ amĀ going to miss you." She added, snorting quietly before hugging him tightly, burying her face against his chest. "Promise me you'll take care of yourself?" She inquired, her voice sounding muffled against the fabric of his shirt, then she moved away again. "Can I... stay with you until you leave?"
NathanĀ let his smile grow wider at her words, "I know, but I'll miss you more." He felt like adding, even though it was going to lead to their usual back and forth. But honestly, that was exactly what he needed right then. He wrapped his arms securely around her, burying his face in her hair and nodding, "Of course, promise. You take care of yourself too, okay? And don't forget to keep in touch." He reminded her, even though he knew he could count on her not to forget. He nodded without hesitation, "I'd love it if you'd stay with me until I left." He said, feeling better than he had when she originally arrived at his place and leaning in to press another kiss to her lips.
