As soon as the scene drifted, Mariana held onto Elijah still, trying to get him to stay. She let the scene play out carefully and slowly, a slight frown pulling down at her lips without any more emotion shown through her expression. Finally, she let go of Elijah, the scene having finished, and the mermaid let out a small sigh, adding, “See, it wasn’t that bad—” But as soon as the words fled her mouth, she glanced to see Elijah leaving. Her brows stitched together for a moment before she stood from the couch, calling out for him. “Elijah? Eli?” Waiting a few moments, Mariana followed suit to check on him.
Elijah didn’t even make it to the bathroom before he found himself shaking. He leaned into the wall and sank down to the floor, pulling his knees closer to his chest as he settled there. His forehead rested against his knees and he sucked in shaky breaths, images flashing through his mind. He was making it worse, and he knew that, but at the same time, he couldn’t stop it. Every thought was just making it worse - Mariana was going to come in and see him, and she was going to worry, and he knew that the only way to calm himself down was by himself. He shouldn’t have suggested Disney movies; he should have expected that she would choose The Lion King - and he was such an idiot for putting himself, and Mariana, in the humiliating situation where he couldn’t even control himself.

The Lion King was still playing on TV when he got home after work. He had placed the food he had brought over from the restaurant on the kitchen counter before turning off the TV and looking for Mariana. He heard her voice, calling out to some Elijah, and went over to just let her know that he was home and food was here. He spotted her first and called out her name. “Hey, I got dinner today, so --” He stopped speaking when he realized that what he had walked into was not something he had quite expected. His gaze went from her to the boy who looked in obvious distress and then to Mariana again. “What did you do?“ he asked before rushing over and kneeling down beside him, placing a cautious hand on his arm. Elijah did she call him? “Elijah -- are you okay? What’s the matter?” he asked softly before glaring up at her. “You better tell me who’s in there and what’s going on.“
