Stop writing your extrovert as someone who never shuts up and is exhausting to be around. That's a bad extrovert, not extroversion. A well-written extrovert thinks out loud, they don't know what they feel until they're saying it to someone. They use conversation to process. What looks like oversharing is actually them figuring themselves out in real time. They need the other person there not to listen but to exist. The other person being in the room is what makes the thought happen. Write that. It's fascinating.

A new option for anyone with a veeeeery long doc or complicated outline (and no desire to look at all of it at once) -

Collapsible headers! 

Turn them on in your Editor settings (Toggle headings), then click / tap the arrow beside any H1–H4 header to tuck that section away, safe and sound.

When you create a new header, just hit Enter, and it’ll become collapsible too.

Collapsible headers work in both the editor and on Reader links, so you can use them while writing, outlining, and editing; or to help your readers stay focused on one section at a time. We particularly love them for temporarily pretending the previous 86,491 words in a doc don’t exist (at least, not until the editing phase). 🙂‍↔️

New Chapter!

It's happened. It's official. The final chapter of "Stitches in Time" is posted. I cannot BELIEVE this started out as a quick tongue-in-cheek Valentine's Day, 5k one-shot. And now it July and I'm finally posting the final chapter. This has been a delightful piece filled with strange ups and downs and some of the oddest subject matter I could imagine. Seriously. I cannot explain how ridiculous it is that I wrote this.

It's humor. It's pain. It's banter. It's frustration. There is family and grief and suffering and laughter and friendship and snakes? Seriously: invisible snakes. And a jumper that defies explanation.

If you haven't already, now that it's finished, you may as well give it a try. I promise some part of it will bring a smile to your face or touch a string in your heart.

this is a great book!

Her book had another great lesson/section that really stayed with me (which i will paraphrase here because i read it a long time ago, but the essence is the same). It went something like:

"You decide to write. So you sit down at your desk and you get out some paper, a pencil and pen, turn on your computer. Then you stare off into space for 20 minutes. You type a sentence and delete it. You pick up your pen to outline, but you wind up doodling. You decide a cup of tea will help.

Back at your desk, you take a sip of tea and start writing. After a paragraph, you stop to think. Your mind wanders. You notice an ache, and wonder if you have a life threatening condition. You stare out the window. You read the paragraph you have written. You re-write the paragraph. You read it again. You delete the paragraph. Your tea is cold, so you get up and re-heat it.

At your desk again, you start over, but stop after a couple minutes. It has been three hours. You have written one sentence.

Your friend calls you. You answer and tell them you cannot talk because you are busy. They ask what you are doing and you reply "writing".

Because you are. This is part of the process, and you have spent three hours doing it. The pages that will come later would not happen without this. You have spent your morning writing."

This part of the book had such an impact on how I view my own writing process. I absolutely recommend it
