siobhan dropping in with I’m coming to thanksgiving as their third was the type of truly brilliant strategic battle tactic that would make a warlord of a less ambitious woman
the creative process is a challenging one
there was an incident at work today
today’s the only day you can reblog this
“There Will Come Soft Rains”, Ray Bradbury
friend is trying to sell her car bc shes moving to a state with vehicle inspections and her prius lives in defiance of god. anyway so shes cleaning it out at my apartment complex bc we have dumpsters and her roommate forgot to pay the trash bill. i will be liveblogging my experience watching her do this and you will understand why i refuse to help her
-threw out the floor mats entirely bc theres magic the gathering cards molded into them
-found an axe formely belonging to a friend who is now in jail
-four trash bags worth of clothes and an untold amount of fast food trash
guys theres a pile of chicken bones down there from wingstop im so scared
AND i hear "hey dude can i use ur washing machine real quick" and she pulls out a pair of pants from, i shit you not, 1940 and theyre moldified into a SOLID. those pants survived a war and couldnt last a year in her fucking shitbox istfg
shes cleaning out the Broken Glass Area of the backseat (normal thing to have. been there FOUR FUCKING YEARS)
fuckin blindly sticks her hand under the seat and pulls out a fully intact URANIUM GLASS PLATE. "for you :D" ... GIRL
"oh no i disturbed the nursery section of The Colony!!! D: D: " awesomesauce. i hope an asteroid comes and kills us both
i swear to god im not exaggerating here. anyway heres an incomplete list of everything we found inside:
-axe (stolen)
-earrings made out of dentures
-flavored condoms
-a quilt
-hello kitty sweater (stolen from a DIFFERENT ex-friend with a felony charge)
-deer spine
-baseball sized wad of human hair
-""sex apron""
-uranium glass plate
-pile of non-uranium non-car glass
-rollerblades
-complete phantom of the opera cd set
-magic the gathering cards mold-ified into a brick
-lego millennium falcon
-a CUTLASS??? (for "self defense")
-the back bumper of the car
-an entire fucking ant colony
and finally, perhaps the most disturbing,
-a pack of vanilla wax melts, inexplicably unmelted and intact despite sitting inside this terrarium-with-a-prius-wrapped-around-it in 100 degree heat for god knows how long
i must stress: before today she DID NOT KNOW about the ant colony in there . she thought ants just really liked to climb inside anytime the car was parked.
guys i cant take it anymore
bringing this post back bc i found a video of her offering me the phantom cd set and i said no because the box was coated in a syrupy mat of human hair and she was confused because "we know whos hair it is" ???? as if the origin of the hair was the only fucking holdup
#and this is why car inspections exist
I think I would have liked Masters of the Universe (2026) if it was a bit worse, actually.
Because as it is, it's a fun movie with a lot of really stupid writing, but enough good stuff that the bad writing stands out painfully. If it was all dumb fun it would have been better!
FOOD DISCOURSE: reblog with ur opinions on guacamole, olives, mango, hummus, tomatoes, and cannolis
Your cats are not "manipulating" you they are communicating with you. They do not understand why you're limiting their food supply or keeping them indoors or preventing them from ruining your furniture or whatever.
When they meyowl pathetically for more food, it's not because they're trying to "trick" you into feeding them again. They just want to be fed, and they're smart enough to notice the correlation between certain sounds they make and the responses they get from you.
They've figured out that if they want to communicate to you that they want more food, if they make those pathetic sounds, you're more likely to behave as if you've understood what they're trying to communicate.
When your cat waits for you to look away then yoinks food off of your plate, it's not because they love crime. It's because they're social colony creatures who instinctively share food with each other and they don't understand why you're not sharing the best foods with them.
Your cats are very intelligent, social creatures who see you as their Very Strange sibling.
They've learned how to make intricate sounds just to communicate with their humans. When the sounds they make elicit the responses they want, they learn that those sounds are the most effective way to communicate their desires.
Not because they're scheming about how to control you, but because they don't know how to communicate with you any other way.
I find it fascinating how The Amazing Digital Circus draws a distinction between forgiveness and redemption
Jax gets forgiven but not redeemed. Forgiveness is given, not earned or achieved. Pomni sees all of Jax's worst parts and still chooses to care. Jax still gets put on the mural. The harm is still done, and Jax didn't change. But the cast still mourns. They either don't hate Jax anymore or set that hate aside to move on with their lives. Jax is forgiven but not redeemed.
Caine is redeemed. Redemption requires action and is not just given. After torturing the cast, Caine gets deleted and reflects on everything. Caine chooses to be better. Caine comes back to give the cast some of their memories and to make the circus better for them. The cast doesn't immediately forgive Caine. Zooble even says it outright. Caine is redeemed but not necessarily forgiven.
Is it weird that I have a go-to song to mentally sing when I have a song stuck in my head? It's Dragostea Din Tei, and I know the lyrics well enough that I can spend a while going through them but not so well that they stick?
I was talking to my therapist about how before I go to talk to someone, I can't stop myself from mentally rehearsing the conversation in my head and it's exhausting and just makes every exchange worse. Just for stuff like if I'm in line at the checkout, so I'm rehearsing both that I want to say I have my own bags* and "I'm doing well, how are you?" and explain my purchases because for some goddamn reason I'm anxious about that. She recommended I sing Happy Birthday in line, to occupy my brain and stop the feedback loop that encourages that coping mechanism.
And then she seemed kinda weirded out that I brought up not doing a song that would get stuck in my head but I had a ready alternative??
Anyway, it's been a great way to stop rumination.

Amazon is doing a new thing where they literally pop up an ad while you're scrolling through an item's page. Like it's not enough that the search results are so full of ads it's a headache to find the specific thing you put in the search bar even when you search for the exact name as it's listed on Amazon. Now if you want to read the item's specifics or reviews you have to literally deal with a pop up video.
And the ones I've seen have been kinda gross? Like suddenly someone is trimming their toenails full screen on my phone. Like the chumbox ads on the bottom of local news articles, but in the middle of your shopping experience.
I mean, I do try to avoid shopping there and the times I've seen the ads were because I was just hoping they had specifics about the item so I could see if I wanted to buy it before I decided where I would buy it. And sometimes the Amazon reviews are the only place that will have those specifics because the Internet sucks now.
GLaDOS voice: "Would you like to see some artwork I generated? I've heard from other test subjects that AI-generated artwork produces an uncanny valley response in human viewers because they can't perceive it as fully real. They've told me that it looks absolutely hideous to them, that they can't imagine anything more disgusting than AI art. But, well I've been practicing and wanted your honest opinion. Feel free to let me know how ugly you find this by ranking it on a scale from 'vomit-inducing' to 'eye-bleeding'." A robotic arm lowers from the ceiling holding a hand mirror up to Chell's face
I've been following these guys for quite a while. They hunt invasive, venomous lionfish in the oceans around Florida and the Caribbean where the fish have no predators and will basically eat the reefs completely barren of small fish, which will destroy them. So they fill in where nature can't and keep their numbers down to non-destructive amounts.
And they used to talk a lot about how it's just a passion project for them because there aren't any bounties on lionfish and no government programs to fund it. But now their social media has gotten popular enough that they can do it full time. They went from talking about how they sold the bigger fish to restaurants to defray the cost, and now they're quitting their jobs. They make enough money to pay themselves AND pay for their boat.
I'm just so proud and so happy for them that they reached this place, y'know? Watching all their hard work, for a completely selfless endeavor, pay off. When they weren't even expecting it to pay off.
And their videos are great. Their views aren't just a charity thing. People watch them because they're entertaining! You should watch them and be entertained. They clearly put a lot of time and effort into recording their hunts, editing them, doing voiceover, etc. They just bought a new light so you can actually see the beautiful colors of the fish and the reefs even though they're quite deep underwater.
