there will never be anything as funny as the mutual disbelief between long form and short form fic writers about each other's style.

short form writers look at people writing 100k+ fics as though this is some sort of talent given as part of a fae bargain, that the commitment required shows some sort of ungodly mental fortitude.

meanwhile long form writers look at people writing 1000 word one shots like god I would cut off my left nipple to be able to say anything concisely. i would love to play with multiple ideas. free me from the shackles of this child I have birthed. i love them but I now must take them to t-ball and doctor's appointments and they're going to destroy everything I own.

Never preemptively negotiate your terms down.

It's so easy to curtail what you want because it might offend somebody, because somebody else needs attention and resources more, because you don't have a Good Enough reason to want it.

Screw that. If someone pushes back on your cherished hope, you can deal with it. If. But never turn back on your own needs, or even desires, just because that might happen.

You don't have to play both sides of the debate about whether you can want and take. Let somebody else play the Nay side, if anyone actually intends to do it. But want, it is completely human to want, let yourself desire instead of preoccupying yourself with not bumping into anyone.

That's my wish for you.

Ye, I hath not the verbiage to properly express my sentiments upon this ill-considered passage. Prythee enjoy this modest foray into the future's entertainment.

An advert for the next episode of Failure to Launch played in the holo-matrix. Donna barely registered as the wrench-wielding Hermonia, angrily threw open the visor of Cedric's blast helmet, before the scene pivoted aggressively to a counterbalance giving way, sending a giant spool of metal cable crashing to the hangar floor, before yet another pivot to a brilliant tower of coils glowing red hot and the resident thickly-muscled, barely-shirted Newton Hectare punched a bulkhead in celebration.

This final chapter is absolutely chaotic, and with the lion's share of the setting within the TARDIS you'd think I wouldn't be doing so much world building. Alas, that is not the case.
