i couldn’t tell you exactly why but i really like quark/natima under the condition that natima is like, completely insane
natima repeatedly asking quark to read drafts of her scientific research papers before okaying the final publication b/c quark is unfortunately great at giving thoughtful constructive criticism despite only ever wanting to read the trashiest of erotica
I am one thousand percent behind this headcanon. (Come back, @natimalang! You’re missing the good stuff!)
She attempted, once, to write trashy erotica for him, as a thank you for reading so many scholarly articles, but was rebuffed because *HER CHARACTERS WERENT BELIEVABLE ENOUGH.*
quarks one-off romantic interests are THE best characters in ds9 bc they all simply crash into whatever a plot is supposed to be happening, peg quark, almost kill him & then leave
..... Accurate.
Every man has his price.
Indeed, he does.
You're back!!!
I’m back!!! I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100% that lizard.
There’s a cool company on Etsy that sells a color of nail polish called Rules of Acquisition! Can vouch for their quality, and it looks great with Fistful of Latinum, the top coat that they sell.
I own both of these. Plus some other trek ones. Fanchromatic nails is a TREASURE.
Hit me up!
Let’s plot?
Lwaxana knows what the fuck is up
Lwaxana is a queen. You can’t change my mind.
i think quark is really cute with all his one-or-two-off love interests actually. it’s bc the writers think it’s extremely funny to pair him up with women who could easily kill him and for him to love it and they’re right

Star Trek Ask meme: 11, 13, 19, 26. Yeah, a lot of questions ;-)
11. Top 3 OTPs?Hmmm. Does Damar/Zatara count? Heh. I’m going to say it counts. Other than that, I’m not really a hardcore shipper of any particular ship. Maybe Garak/Parmak and Doctor/Seven of Nine. Obviously I’ve written Garak/Bashir in the past, and I don’t hate that ship by any means, but I got a bit burned out on it (and as stated in previous posts, I was never a big fan of Julian).
13. A ship you wish had been canon and why?I think it would have been nice if the writers and producers had been supportive of Andy Robinson’s desire for Garak to be involved with Bashir. We still have the subtext, but for it to be explicitly canon would have been good for the LGBT+ community. Also, I want to say regarding the Doctor and Seven of Nine that I was fine with them ending the series WITHOUT her being in a relationship because I think that made the most sense for her character and it doesn’t need to be a requirement that all women characters must have resolution in terms of romantic involvement. However, if they insisted on pairing her off with someone, it should have been the Doctor. Chakotay made no sense, it was out of left field, and they had zero chemistry. The Doctor and Seven had a wonderful rapport, and I was very disappointed towards the end of season 7 when the writers began to almost make a mockery of his feelings for her.
19. You can undo one plot point, which do you choose? That is a toss up between Augment!Bashir and anything on DS9 involving the Mirror Universe. Both were examples of poor story telling and they were terribly executed at that. I mean, the evil bisexual trope alone… *sigh*
26. Which alien hybrid offspring are you most interested in seeing? None, really. From a biological perspective, I think it is highly unlikely that species evolving on different PLANETS would be able to successfully produce viable offspring. That being said, if I had to choose, I’d be kind of curious to see what Quark and Natima’s child would be like (Ferengi/Cardassian).
In regards to number 26: They would be absolutely beautiful- of this, I am certain.

Natima looked up from her work- she’d thought she’d seen... but surely it couldn’t have been? A swish of white hair danced around the corner. “Was that... Zatara?” //*Poke* :P
I met a fan artist from the Hobbit fandom who’s 40+ years old, who sent me a postcard a couple of years back for Christmas with her art on the card.
When I was about 14, I once befriended, and lost contact with, a 40 year old woman with a full head of gray, curly hair, who was one of the best known Good Omens fan artists of the community. She had apparently been in and out of asylums for years, and I worried for the longest time. I even sent her an email when I was around 18, asking after her well-being. But then she resurfaced when I was 21, here on tumblr. It was one of the greatest and most memorable fandom experiences I’ve ever had.
When I was 15 and using slurs I didn’t know were slurs, 30+ year old LGBTQ+ comics fans on scans_daily patiently but firmly corrected me. I felt mortified, but they never attacked me or treated me as anything other than a dumb kid who made a mistake.
I have a long time friend of close to a decade, who was late twenties when I met her in the comics fandom, and I was a teen.
OLDER FANS ARE CRUCIAL TO THE SURVIVAL OF FANDOMS. Not ONLY because they’re literally the ones keeping fandom afloat (AO3 wasn’t created or maintained by kids, let’s just say), but because older fans generally don’t attack or bully or fuck up a fandom by being aggressive or volatile or overzealous, destroying any enjoyment of a medium.
Single women, married women, LGBTQ+ fans, all in the range of 30-60 years old. I’ve met all sorts of older fans, from when I was 12 on deviantart to now, in my mid-twenties, and not a single one of them has ever hurt me or treated me like dirt. I’ve always felt safer with older fans than with younger ones, because of the people I’ve seen harass, accuse, doxx, bully, and generally engage in harmful behaviour in this fandom, they’ve largely been in the 13-21 age bracket.
Obviously most young fans aren’t like that, but the toxicity is palpable regardless.
@younger fans, if somebody older in a fandom acts in a creepy way, then feel free to avoid them, block them, report them.
But this apparent DELUSION that younger fans have that older fans are “creepy” just for existing needs to be eradicated. Just. Stop. You do not deserve the fandoms they built, they maintained, they keep alive in themselves and all the younger fans they took care of, if you cannot RESPECT THEM.

On Ferengi Sexuality
A Doctoral Dissertation by @natimalang and @jeslieness:
Many people have stated that the biggest argument for a sexually enlightened Ferenginar (with regards to homosexuality) is the idea that Quark seemed to be interested in Pel, even when he thought that she was a male, in the episode ‘Rules of Acquisition’. Too, in the same episode, we see that Jadzia Dax recognizes their affections and does not find it odd at all that two men would be in some sort of a blossoming relationship.
I wish to recognize this very general argument and provide a secondary, more specific, reason-- the canon book “Oo-Mox For Fun and Profit”. Oo-mox? Great. Oo-mox for fun? Better. Oo-mox for Fun and Profit? Hold the phone. It is made abundantly clear throughout the series that females are not allowed to earn profit. This leaves us in a bind in every scenario... except one.
If we assume that woman are providing Oo-mox to men, then there would be no profit involved... as men cannot pay women for their services.
If we assume that men are providing Oo-mox to women, well- women have no profit with which to pay the men.
If we assume women are providing Oo-mox to other women... we have the same situation- there are no profits available to be exchanged.
Now, men providing Oo-mox to other men... there is a scenario in which Oo-mox could indeed be for profit. Does Ferenginar have a culture in which businessmen are going around performing Oo-mox on other men as a means of... sweetening the pot, as it were, in a business deal?
This would, indeed, mean that homosexuality were not frowned upon in Ferengi society, but rather, celebrated as a means of earning more profit. Therefore, perhaps a more appropriate title for the book would be: Oo-Mox for Fun (for fe-males) and Profit (for Males.)
Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.
(Disclaimer: This does not touch at all on our ideas about the rampant, problematic sexism in Ferengi society. That’s another, very long, essay for another day.)
