For the last couple of months, a vagrant claiming to be the Sprint Canoeing Champion, Dmitri Joukovski (sp?), has been harrassing us at the Sheraton hotel in downtown Calgary, where I work. I managed to take a picture of him during the last encounter (May 22, 2018), and it also helped that he left his “autograph” on our desk. Upon further research, looks like he was actually telling us a truth about himself. According to various online sources, he competed in ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, and won silver medals in mid-2000s. His last public profile was around 2009, when he was appointed the coach for the Kamloops Canoe and Kayak Club.

Well, that was then, this is now. I don’t know what lead him to where (and what) he is now, but NOW, not only is he a bum, but a dangerous one. He goes around harrassing, even threatening people, mainly in the Eau Claire area of downtown. For several weeks, he’s been coming to our hotel, usually intoxicated (high, drunk, or both), and would verbally harrass both our staffs and guests. He even tried to pick a fight with one of our bellman, and even shouted ethnic slurs at some of our colleagues. At one time, we found him banging on guest room doors!

We called the police on him numerous times, but the only thing they’ve done so far, was letting him off with a warning each time. Just how many warnings does one need to be arrested!? It’s bad enough that every time we call the police, we have to remind them of him, because they never have the record of dealing with this guy.

Well, all I could do right now, is just advise anyone in downtown Calgary to stay away from him. As he has proven, he does have violent tendencies, and should not be approached. Reblog, spread the word, help get this psychopath off our street!
