Sirius gave them space to say goodnight by closing James’s door and putting the TV on just a tad louder than necessary.
“Drama queen!” Reg shouted through the closed door. James pulled Reg to him. “How long is he staying?”
“Three nights, while Remus is away,” James told him, pulling him a little closer and swaying them gently.
“Who’s Remus?”
James stopped swaying. Had he just outed Sirius? Fuck!
“Erm,” he said, his throat constricting.
“OH FOR FUCK SAKES!” Sirius shouted from inside James’s flat. “He’s my boyfriend! I’m staying with James while my boyfriend is away!”
“Oh,” Reg said after a moment. “So, you’re gay too?”
“Bi, actually,” Sirius shrugged and disappeared back into the flat. Reg stared at the door, not saying anything.
“You okay?” James eventually asked when Reg still hadn’t moved.
“Just battling the voice in my head.”
James didn’t need to ask whose voice he was fighting against. Sirius had the same voice in his head.
“Tell her I say that she’s a massive dusty cunt.”
Reg’s lips twitched. James continued, gentling his voice. “You don’t need her to accept you for who you choose to love, either of you, because she doesn’t matter, not a bit. You are who matters. You and Sirius.”
James watched as the first silent tear made its way down Reg’s cheek. He watched as Reg blinked, and more tears followed the first. He let Reg take the lead, not wanting to push him into anything. Reg reached out and took his hand, leading him into his flat and closing the door behind them.

To seek a true feeling among the chaos of the unfeelings or half-feelings of life, to recognize it when found, and to accept the consequences of the discovery.
