yeah, let's ignore my ever-growing pile of drafts take that, the family stuff got me today
On a good day, Jaheira’s home was nothing if not a battlefield of pure, unrelenting chaos.
Jhessem had just cut her own hair — rather unevenly, from the looks of it — and was now wailing over the disaster. Fig, meanwhile, stood at the veranda, wooden sword raised like a seasoned warrior, demanding to see some imaginary credentials from whoever gets close enough.
Jaheira barely had a moment to breathe before she turned on her heel, swiftly scooping Fig up under her arm as if she were nothing more than a sack of grain. "Apologies, mighty soldier," she said with exaggerated solemnity, "but I fear you take your post far too seriously."
Fig squealed with laughter, kicking her legs but making no real effort to escape.
"Jhessem, wait for me in the bathroom!" Jaheira called over the noise. "I'll be there in a moment!"
She scanned the room, eyes flicking from one child to the next. Where in the hells was Tate?
"Rion," she called, spotting her eldest lounging at the table with her feet propped up, a book in hand. "Where’s your brother?"
Without so much as glancing up, Rion lazily gestured toward Jord, who was at the stove, carefully stirring dinner.
Jaheira sighed. "The other brother."
Finally, Rion deigned to glance around, as if Tate might have magically appeared under the table or behind the furniture. She shrugged. "Dunno."
Jaheira sighed through her nose. "Would you be so kind as to search for him?"
Rion smirked, flipping a page. "Is a nine-year-old too much for the great High Harper?"
Jaheira narrowed her eyes, pressing her lips into a thin line. Damn the girl, testing her patience. “Gods, I don’t know who you take after."
"Oh, certainly not you," Rion said, grinning.
Jaheira rolled her eyes, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Rion. Please."
With an exaggerated groan, Rion dragged herself out of her chair, muttering something under her breath as she set off on her reluctant mission.
Jaheira finally set Fig down, who had been giggling all the while. She crouched, smoothing the child’s hair back. "New orders, soldier. Hold your position, keep watch, and do not let any intruders through until I return."
"Yes, Commander!" Fig threw a hand to her forehead in a dramatic salute.
The High Harper finally turned her attention to the guest. "Just give me five minutes. Alright, maybe ten. I’ll be right back — but by all means, make yourself at home. Put your feet up, raid the pantry, start a small revolution, I don’t know. Just don’t burn the place down."
Geraldus was far from the first Harper to be invited to the High Harpers home, far from it. Jaheira had held many a meeting with a select few among her ranks, he'd never expected he would become one of those 'select few'. He still hadn't considered he might have some worth to her; he'd assisted her in finding the Rashimaar, and helped defeat the Netherbrain alongside her, and was dating one of her friends. But, to him, he was just another one of her soldiers, he never thought she might consider him a friend as well.
Geraldus knew Jaheira had a home in the city, but that didn't stop him from being surprised when he stepped foot in it for the first time. He hadn't expected her to be so.... domesticated. Nor had he expected she would have children. Despite how nervous he was to be here, and despite how much he was trying resist, he couldn't help but smile with mirth at the chaos playing out around him. It was strangely comforting to see the display, to see Jaheira more than just the High Harper, to see that she was just as much a person as he was. It honestly made him feel bad for having built up his expectations of her for so long.
He'd been so distracted watching Jaheira try to wrangle her children, that when she addressed him it almost startled him. "Er— y-yes, High Harper!" He responded, standing up straight as though he was about to be inspected by a superior commander. Habits die hard.
Even after Jaheira left, he couldn't relax, in fact, he became even more anxious than before. She told him to make himself feel at home, but Jaheira clearly didn't know what it meant to be introverted. Being left alone in someone else's home, on the first visit no less, was an introverts nightmare. He stood there awkwardly, glancing around, it was only when he was sure no one was looking at him that he made a move to sit at the table. Other than sit in such a stiff way that it was probably painful to look at, he did nothing but wait for Jaheira to return.
Bold of him, really — bold of Harper Geraldus, to sit at their table like he wasn’t under intense surveillance. Sure, he had the Commander's permission to be there, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t being watched.
Closely.
Relentlessly.
With the unwavering eyes of a true honour guard.
From behind the corner, Fig narrowed her eyes. She adjusted the napkin tied around her neck like a battle scarf, marched forward in heavy, dramatic steps, and unsheathed her wooden sword from the invisible seathe behind her back with all the flair of a seasoned knight.
She leapt across the room that was actually a little jump right next to his seat and pointed her sword straight at Geraldus.
"STAND ON YOUR LIVER!" she barked with all the authority her tiny lungs could muster.
Anxiously sitting in his seat, Geraldus had become so lost in his own thoughts that he'd become oblivious to what was going on around him. It was only when there was a little girl stood directly in front of him and shouting at him with a wooden sword pointed at his chest, that he was ripped from his thoughts and flung straight into what he could only describe as heart palpitations. Was he being dramatic? Probably, but she'd certainly given him a fright based on the squeal he'd let out. To her credit, this was probably the first time she'd actually scared someone. And thar knowledge was rather embarrassing...
Of course, it was only a small fright and it didn't take long for Geraldus' brain to catch up and realise there was no threat here. When it did, he brought his hand to his chest and cleared his throat, trying to distract himself from the embarrassment that came from being frightened by a little girl.
"Erm— I-" Oh but he had no idea what to say, how does one even respond to this situation— what did she say- 'stand on your liver'? What does that even mean??
He was thinking of this too practically, too much, this was a child. He should just play along.
"I-I mean no harm." He lifted his arms, holding them up in surrender, and doing his best to sound scared—which wasn't that hard for him to be fair.
YES! YES! SHE DID IT!
Fig felt her face stretch into the biggest smile ever. The grown-up man — an actual soldier — jumped back. He flinched. He was scared. Of her. It was just like Uncle Minsc said: evil shivered in the boots of justice!
........or something like that.
She puffed her chest out right away, because heroes do that (very important hero rule!) and slid her wooden sword back into its pretend sheath.
“My honour forbids me from fighting against an unarmed foe.” She said, using the fancy voice. It was from her favorite book, the one Mom always read at night, and it was one of Fig's favourite lines.
Then she zoomed to the nearest wall, grabbed a broom, and tossed it at the soldier. It clattered on the ground near his feet.
“Here! Take this! En garde!”
She pulled her wooden sword out again, making sure the motion was accompanied by a loud shhhing! between her teeth, and took a fighting pose. One foot was a little wrong and her arms were kind of wobbly, but it felt very cool and very brave.
Fig grinned, bouncing a bit on her toes. Ready. Very, very ready.
Geraldus could only feel this getting worse and worse, what he'd expected to be a meeting with the High Harper had instead turned into a one on one fight with one of her children. Sheepishly, he reached for the broom she'd dropped before him and stood up, searching his brain for any stances that would work with a larger 'weapon' such as this. Geraldus was primarily an archer, and a short sword user secondarily, and this broom resembled much closer to a quarterstaff - something he'd never used before! Realistically he knew it didn't matter, this was a game, not a training session in which he was being tested, but that didn't stop him from overthinking.
"Er- e-en garde!" He replied, continuing to play along as he widened his stance and did his best to relax. And pray Jaheira didn't return yet.
Rina caught Karlach's satisfied grin and did her best not to scowl, she had to play nice, not just because she was travelling with her now, but also because Karlach was genuinely a nice person, and Rina liked her. The worst thing she could do was sabotage this relationship. Deep breaths and calm down, there was no need to get so worked up.
She crouched down beside one of the bodies and began sifting through any pockets she could find, looking for anything that might be useful to them - so mostly coin. "I occasionally worked in groups, but never by choice. So yes, I'm used to working alone."
Karlach pulled out a few things from the satchel of one of the bodies. A small healing potion and a small handful of gold. Score. Though she listened to Rina all the same as she continued to search the other bodies.
"Figured as much. Kinda funny. We were both lone wolves before this, but for very different reasons." And certainly very different feelings about it. "With any luck, this Halsin guy will be able to fix us up and you can go back to working alone, eh? Unless we start growing on you." Karlach grinned, still prodding rather than being deadly serious about anything. She just didn't like working in silence when she had the opportunity to not do so. It was why she spoke to herself so often in Avernus.
"So who did you work with before? I take it that was a while back."
After deciding the body had been thoroughly searched, Rina stood up and took a step back, placing her hands on either hip. A light dusting spread on Rina's cheeks as Karlach suggested they were all growing on her, some more than others she thought to herself, but the flush was mostly from embarrassment.
"Others from my Grove, mostly bringing food back." She answered matter-of-factly after clearing her throat, "But it was never really eventful." She continued, which was partly a lie. Most of the time it was uneventful, but sometimes her ex had accompanied her and she'd have to make sure he didn't get into trouble, and sometimes she would get captured by mind flayers— but that was neither here nor there.

YIPPEEE RINA TIME! Rina is a bg3 tav by @lunarrabb1t also found on @naturesaarrow she is a ranger but after getting yoinked by the nautoloid and ending up in the emerald grove she now returning to her druidic roots, and later happens to fall for a certain Harper Geraldus. In the end she joins the Harper’s herself, along with Geraldus. Genuinely I always associate these two together now 😂 I see Geraldus and my thought is “oh that’s rinas man!” As if he’s not the canon character.
Since she has a character sheet she is also easy for me to draw because I have to think less yay!! I also ended up inadvertently drawing her in a very Cupid-esc pose but her expression makes her a serious Cupid lol
I have one more request to do, I will have to design the character though so it will take me longer 👀💧 though I might still do some chibis for fun

Rina stared with an indignant pout, her arms crossed as she heard Karlach's not so subtle accusation, as if she wouldn't be able to handle a few corpses. She wasn't afraid of a little blood, Silvanus only knows she's been covered in it more times than she can count - both her own and others.
"Oh please." She rolled her eyes and stepped forward, closer to the bodies, as if to show she wasn't concerned about such a frivolous thing, and was willing to assist, "I grew up surrounded by Druid's, I'm a Ranger, I'm not afraid of getting a little bit dirty."
Karlach grinned at Rina's reaction, having successfully teased her way under her skin for a moment. It was fun to have banter like this again. It wasn't as if it was non-existent in the Hells but there was always a layer of truth behind every insult. A way to slither past her defences and find something to use against her later.
She was hardly safe from that mentality here - the Hells got it from somewhere after all - but Karlach was rather trusting of this group. Perhaps too much so.
"It's called teasing, Rina, it's fine." Karlach chuckled slightly, rolling over one of the corpses with her foot as she then riffled through the pockets and pouches. "As a Ranger, I assume you work alone a lot then, eh? Not used to group banter?"

Thought I'd mention here that I made a new rp account for Maelle and painted Alicia! It's not baldur's gate but thought I'd share it anyway.
@reacherofstars
Question not related to any meme but when does Rina learn to wildshape in your mind? Is it a whole event or just kinda happens?
Unprompted Ask
I've always imagined Rina wildshaping at a very young age - like, tolder age. But only because it was never something she had to think about, it was always something she just did. And the older she got, the less and less she was able to do it. And then her dad died and she gave up on druidic studies and completely lost the ability to wildshape until she started learning again under Halsin.
If she were a companion, I could see it being a camp cutscene in act 2 :)
Think I'm gonna start mixing in some drawn icons... Sometimes screenshots don't have the right vibe or expression... Also i dont wanna have to go through the trouble of getting more icons for Rina's different hair styles 💀

26. Party banter with Gale
Gale: Would you entertain my curiosity for a moment, Rina? I'd love to learn more about druids and their teachings. I've of course read on them, but there's nothing like a firsthand account.
Rina: I have no interest in this. Leave me alone.
Gale: Hm, shame.
(In Emerald Grove)
Gale: Such a wonderful and intriguing settlement, remind you of home?
Rina: Stop. Talking.
28. Party banter with Karlach
Karlach: *deep breath* Ah! The fresh smell of flowers, dirt and all things earth. Oh, how I've missed this.
Rina: Hm? Oh, nature truly is a beauty, isn't it? Something I've been taking for granted, I think...
Rina: (insulting) There's nothing natural about that engine of yours. ... Sorry, I didn't mean...
Karlach: Think nothing of it, yeah? Not until we've rid ourselves of our little friends.
Rina: You're too good for this world.

Neutral:
"You need something?" "Make it quick." "Yes?"
High:
"Something bothering you? I'll help if I can." "What can I do for you?" Romance: "Always a pleasure seeing you." "I was just thinking I could use your company." "What? I wasn't staring, just… happened to be glancing in your direction."
Romance:
"Always a pleasure seeing you." "I was just thinking I could use your company." "What? I wasn't staring, just… happened to be glancing in your direction."
Rina was not so convinced by his words, she wasn't sure her mother mother would want her back after everything. After all the avoidance, all the arguments, and after— she pushed the thought away, she'd already thought too much about that day. But everything else he said… He nailed it right on the mark and it instinctively made her angry. He was only trying to help, Rina knew that, and she'd opened up to him so she was asking for this, but she just didn't like being called out like that. But despite that, she swallowed her rising resentment and took a deep breath to calm herself, she couldn't let herself get so easily worked up.
"Maybe you are right. But I suppose we'll see… If we ever make it that far."
"Ah, yes, well..." Osian cleared his throat. "We still have to...let's see-" He brought out a hand and started counting down the tasks on their perilous to-do list with his opposite finger. "Kill an immortal man. Find out what makes our tadpoles so special. Find out what this 'Absolute' is. Get to the city. Defeat any cultists in our way." He tried to make light of it, but with each reminder, his stomach felt heavier. "Did I miss anything?"
He paused for a moment, taking a steadying breath. His heart was racing from the awkwardness and his foot shook in place on it's rest. "L-Listen, I...I didn't mean to stand on any nerves... If you'd like, you can ask something of me? Revenge, f-for annoying you."
Hearing Osians explanation of everything they had to do, as if it were a simple chores list, managed to produce a small laugh from the druid. A genuine one, not an ironic or condescending one, which was no easy feat.
She shook her head in vague amusement, taking a deep breath and stretching to sit up straight as she ran a hand through her hair. For a moment, she considered asking something of him like he'd suggested, something petty like doing her chores around camp for her, or something else along those lines she couldn't quite think of yet - she wasn't upset with him, but she enjoyed a bit teasing every now and then. But she hesitated when she saw just how nervous he was. She huffed, turning her head away, not wanting to look at his pitiful expression, it made her feel way too vulnerable herself.
"Nothing. You don't have to do anything." She murmured, pausing before reluctantly continuing, "Thank you. For this conversation." Her jaw tensed, glaring at him - a wasted endeavour when it was clear she was no longer as upset as before, "But don't mention it again."
