Snowdonia White tanning tips
Powder laundry detergent contains degreasers, so this stage cleans and degreases the pelt. The tan itself also contains degreasers, but the laundry detergent has to be completely rinsed from the pelt otherwise it neutralizes the tan.
The oil removed during the tanning process collects ontop of the tanning solution and has to be removed - otherwise it will go thick and moldy!
Old buck rabbits have a much thicker membranes than young does, so young does are preferable for a soft and flexible tan.
The tanning solution doesn’t go off, but evaporation of the water from the solution will make the tan stronger. This is a bad thing, as if the tan is too strong, it will block itself from permeating a hide fully, and the hide won’t be tanned.
Constant working of the hide, ie. stretching it between the hand when it’s drying or working it on the dull blade of a shovel, gives the finished pelt its white soft leather finish.
To rework just rehydrate the pelt (leather side up) under a damp towel, and then rework.
The oil CP84 (apparently) makes it up to 60% easier to get a softer finish on the tanned pelts.
The tan is best used on rug cut skins, as it’s difficult to dry and work case skins. A different tan, or mounting it onto a form before it dries, is best for taxidermied hides.
When tanning tails it’s best to cut the tail open so the tan is able to reach all of the inside of the skin, preventing air bubbles (which prevent the hide from actually tanning)

I think that’s everything :) Hope this helps someone!

I SAVED A BEE! <3
I got a badger today. Not sure what their name is yet, but, as of now, they’re being happily appreciated to the side of my room.
They look relatively old, and a little of their fur is slipping. The outerpaw is up and is covered in glue, and the base scatter bits of dead leaves and bark every where when you move it. I think this is just a sad, neglected piece... I may try and touch it up in the future, if can think of something to add to the scene
I think it might be a juvenile. The guy I bought them off of said he’d been left in the garage of the house he’d moved into recently. He didn’t want it. I took him up XD
