The woods, it was something Vera knew she got from her mother. It was a place she could go to when she needed to breathe. When she needed air.

          As she sat at the edge of the lake, her           feet dancing on the top of the water,           she listened as footsteps began to make           their way towards her. And Vera knew,           only three people knew where her secret           spot was.

"I'll apologize later."

          She called out in an annoyed tone.

The sounds of the Panem anthem began to play from the television. Motioning for all of those who were citizens of the newly formed nation to gather for an important announcement from the Capitol. Vera - the 17 year old daughter of Peeta and Katniss Mellark - rose from the kitchen table, leaving her breakfast behind as she made her way into the family room. Sitting between her brother and her father, she watched as the Capitol logo spun before a man to whom no one had seen before appeared on the screen. A quizzical look grew on Vera's face but she remained calm as she watched, waiting intently to what the strange man was about to say.

                 ❝Hello all of Panem. My name is Articus Tyrell. I have the unhappy                  news to inform you of the sudden death of President Paylor just a                  few weeks ago. We are still unsure of just what caused the Presdient's                  untimely death, but are sure it will be looked into         ❞ Vera looked over at her brother who had the same look to his face. There was more to this transmission than just the news of the Presidnet's death. For the man on the screen's eyes were anything but trusting.                   ❝         since the death of our late President, I have taken upon                  myself to take the seat as new President of Panem. And after must                                                     consideration with my fellow board members, in consideration to                  keep our history alive and well for all future generations to behold,                  starting tomorrow, all citizens of Panem are to make their way to                  the city center of their District at 10am. To which a reaping will be                  held. A male and female between the ages of 12 and 18 will be                  chosen to represent their District in a pageant of valor and honor. ❞ 

Vera could feel her heart began to race. She and heard of something like this happening in the past, and from what she could recall from the history  lessons, it was nothing good.                   ❝Begining tomorrow, the Hunger Games will resume. Further                                    information will be available throughout the day. Any non-compliance                  will be judged and treated as an act against the law. Thank you for                  your time, and may the odds be ever in your favor.❞

The screen went black and Vera's eyes were wide with fear as she looked over at her mother and her father, not quite sure what to say, think, or do.
