The language of academia can be so fucking pretentious and elitist. You can’t write a critical paper about people that won’t even understand what you’re trying to say. Plus, the need to make something that supposed to educate and facilitate the exchange of ideas, so complex and complicated to understand is ridiculous. If someone, as a scholar cannot break down complex ideologies and theories into a form that the average person can understand then what the fuck are you doing, honestly? Academia is not about a continuous circle-jerk with your PhD buddies. It’s about exchanging ideas and reaching people, from all walks of life and background. The world is bigger than people with JSTOR memberships.
That is literally why academic language exists though. In the early modern English era some linguists started to develop and invent English words to replace the Latinate loan words sciences and religion were using. The elitists started to FREAK. Suddenly COMMONERS would be able to read and understand their work. Elitist language is classicist and gross. It’s the equivalent of “you’re too dumb to understand this” and keep people out.
Annual gathering of Indigenous chiefs runs through Thursday in Niagara Falls, Ont.
The Assembly of First Nations signed an agreement with the RCMP on Tuesday to address racism and discrimination within the force as the two sides look for new ways to improve relations ahead of the federal government’s inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women.
“We invited the commissioner back again … to be part of this MOU … about how can we work together to deal with issues, deal with all those misconceptions that are within the police,” said National Chief Perry Bellegarde as the AFN kicked off its three-day annual general meeting in Niagara Falls, Ont.
The memorandum of understanding comes just over six months after RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson openly admitted during the Special Chiefs in Assembly last December there are “racists” inside his police force.
Paulson told First Nations chiefs Tuesday: “I couldn’t deny it existed, but I can tell you unequivocally that while it may exist, there is no room, there is no place for it to remain.”

Brad Firth, also known as Caribou Legs, says it's not the first time he's experienced racism on his journeys
He’s travelled thousands of kilometres during several cross-Canada runs for different causes.
APTN has checked in with him a few times now and, apparently, so have police.
Here’s the latest from Brad Firth, also known as Caribou Legs.
