"This is the most adorable duckling I own, so I believe you should have her." read the note stuck to the top of the wooden crate, which contained said duckling and a fluff of hay underneath. Jieun sat it down in front of Naeun's front door, then rang the bell, and wandered off.
While company is always wanted, it’s often rare for Naeun that she turns to the door with a bit of a surprised stare when the doorbell rings. She almost wonders if she has heard wrong, or if she hasn’t, perhaps it’s those nice little girls that offered to sell her cookies some time ago. (And for a brief moment, Naeun thinks back to when she found out for the first time that she could eat so many cookies in one sitting.)
With an excited smile, she places her book down and scurries across the floor to the front door, remembering to peek through the peephole once before anything—a habit well-taught by a certain someone. Her hand is already turning the knob when she sees no one’s there, head peeking out through the small crack to look around.
For a moment, she comes to a conclusion that her theory of her just hearing things might have been correct, until her gaze falls upon the wooden crate at the doorstep. Large, curious eyes blink before she’s down in a squatted position, reading over the note stuck on top. The instant Naeun see’s Jieun’s name on the bottom of the note, joy circulates throughout her body that she doesn’t even have to check what the gift is for her to feel happy. She opens the crate nonetheless, a small gasp escaping her at the sight of a small duckling inside.
"Ohhhh, nooooo…" she squeals under her breath, petting the duckling once before taking out her phone to text her friend.
[ text to: favorite fairy ] I have received your gift, Jieun! Thank you so very much! ♡♡♡ I will cherish her!
With the press of the send button, Naeun stuffs her phone into her back pocket before standing with the wooden crate, heading inside.
[ text to: favorite fairy ] But I have never taken care of a duckling before; how do I do this? ㅠㅠ
