Investigating ancient egyptian for a conlang and realizing how fucked up it is that egyptologists don't actually speak egyptian, they adjudicated sounds to the uniliteral glyphs as they saw fit and just. fucking winged it. The hieroglyphs for the god Thoth spell <ḏḥwtj>, which in Late Ancient Egyptian was pronounced somewhat like /t(ʼ)ə.ˈħawt/ (which the Greeks understandably borrowed as Θώθ).

Egyptologists read that as /dʒɛ.ˈhu.ti/.

THEY SAY DJEHOOTY.

THIS IS THEIR GOD OF WISDOM.
