The final edit for the portrait photoshoot, I have created a triptych that consumes of 3 photos that compliment each other with similar photos or a relatable message. I have chosen these 3 specific photos as I wanted to show each side of the face with the writing illustrating the limitations. I then used a portrait of me with no writing on my face so it shows would it is like to be ‘normal and free’. I edited this on Photoshop using a grid layout to help get an even margin between the photos. There was a 5mm gap between the photos. I didn’t heavily edit the photos. Whatever changes I made to one photo, I changed on the other photos as well. I decreased the brightness to -23 and the contrast to 43. I then went onto hue/saturation and changed the saturation to +33. I am very happy with the outcome as it looks very natural.

These are some more edits I created. I really like these edits as its very natural and not very Photoshop heavy.

I edited the portraits by decreasing the exposure, increasing and decreasing the brilliance, decreasing the contrast as well as the brightness. I then increased the saturation, vibrance and warmth. I also added a tint to some of the edits.

These are my favourite photographs from my portrait photoshoot. They are my favourite as the sun was hitting my face nicely, they are all different poses at different sides and it has my bare face and the face with writing on it.

For my photoshoot, I took portraits of myself. I took some normally and then I also used makeup to write words onto my face. I wrote the words “free” and “no entry” as I thought it suits the limitations part of the theme. In total i had taken 49 photos. I used photoshop to create this contact sheet.

Carrying on with the theme ‘Limitations, Routine & Repetition’ this week I will be focusing more on the ‘Limitations’ part of the theme. I have been inspired by these photographs from pinterest. For my next photoshoot, I will taking portraits of myself. I will use makeup to put writing on my face but instead of the words used on these models, I will be using words that I think relate to the theme.

Similarly to the other edits I also descreased the exposure, brilliance as well as the contrast too. I then also decreased the brightness and then increased the saturation, vibrance, warmth and tint to give it a summery colourful look.

To edit these I decreased the exposure and brilliance. I also decreased the contrast and then increased the brightness. I then also decreased the saturation so it would look pale and then I increased the vibrance so that you could see the colour of the chocolate wrappers. I then increased the warmth and tint.

Responding back to Jim Golden. These are the flat lays I have created using chocolates and candles. The outcome is a lot different than I originally planned it to be, but I do prefer this a lot better.

Planning My Photoshoot

For my photoshoot inspired by Jim Golden, I have looked at these flat lays as examples and inspirations for my own. For my flat lays I want to photograph chocolate bars and candles. Unlike these examples, I will be using multiple candles and chocolates so it doesn’t look too spacious. I will also try use a coloured background, or I will use my wooden floor or fluffy grey carpet as a background for either flat lays that I will be creating.

These are a few examples of Jim Golden’s flat lay work. He uses a variety of different colours which make his work look very appealing to the eye and interesting. He makes random objects look very exciting and makes it look like there is a story behind it. I like how he uses many colours and makes it look neat and not just put there. His work looks very well organised. In his flat lay photography work, he uses neutral coloured backgrounds which match the colours of the objects in his work. His work relates to the theme ‘Limitation, Routine & Repetition’ because there is a pattern of objects and it’s almost like it’s being repeated. It’s also like there is a limitation as it’s all framed into a shape, for instance it’s a rectangle or square and no object goes outside of the shape.

Jim Golden is an award winning photographer and director specialising in still life and products. He brings an artist’s eye and passion to his work. He strives to capture the essence in his work. Jim is a consummate professional with 20+ years of industry experience.
