Confession: I really didn’t enjoy the twist of Kirumi being a prime minister. Not because it was outlandish or weird, but because it doesn’t add anything new to her character or impact the V3 narrative.
Kirumi starts out as a hard-working and self sacrificing maid who’s dedicated her life to serving others no matter what type of request they have for her. Having her switch from maid duties to government duties doesn’t really give her more depth to her dutiful nature or even shed light on her backstory on how she became a maid. Even the fact that she was willing to kill for her people fell flat for me since alot of the V3 kids had that characteristic of killing/doing questionable acts for the greater good. To me, it makes her come off as a flat character with nothing new or interesting to add. It would have been more beneficial to Kirumi if the writers focused more on her character rather than adding an exaggerated twist for the sake of shock value.
Also, her being a prime minister really doesn’t do anything to influence the V3 narrative. None of the characters bring it up after her death and it’s barely mentioned in both the Gofer Project storyline and the “Danganronpa is Fiction” storyline. She could have been revealed as “400 foot purple platypus bear with pink horns and silver wings” and that wouldn’t have made a difference in the story.
