This album brings me back to my last year of highschool, growing up in Ontario, you can take an optional extra year of highschool to fix up grades, or fill out course requirements for university programs. I was on my own for the first time in regards to musical I fluence, the friends I had spent so much time writing, playing and listening to music had left me behind and wandered off to the big cities to explore and grow. The only person in my life sending me new music was my Nan. She has a knack of finding smaller bands and artists before they make it to a national/international level and sending them my way despite being damn near tone deaf. Some of these cases are The Bahamas, Mother Mother, The Good Lovelies and a few others. I don't know if I said it enough as a teenager but I really appreciated her sending me new music she was finding through her artist and musician friends in New Foundland back then, it really helped round out my musical taste. This Tim Baker album comes by way of Man sending me the album for birthday. It makes me feel like I'm listening to an Ariel Posen or Bahamas album for the first time again. Struggling to survive the ever changing tides of my life month after month. Graduating highschool, friends leaving, getting accepted to college and moving out of my hometown for the first time, my dreams and passion leading the way and carving a path for my body to follow. A weird feeling of nostalgia for an unstable but formative time.
