soraya freezes when the lights turn out, expecting that in any moment they’ll flicker back on and everyone will go about like it never happened. she waits and waits for nothing to happen, eyes widen as she looks around the masses of equally confused and freaked out people.
her eyes stray away from the crowd to stare out the window, attempting to tell herself that it’s just lightning. her gut tells her differently though and she can’t explain what it is. it leaves her uneasy.
“what?” soraya turns her attention toward jack, raising an eyebrow at him. “oh, yeah. i’m fine. it’s just lightning, right? nothing that crazy.”
jack held his breath, racking his brain for comforting things to say. she seemed tense despite her nonchalant words, and even a guy with the emotional quotient of a bruised banana could tell. reaching out to her, he gave her a few tentative pats on the back, throwing in a monotonous “there, there” for good measure.
he was shit at dealing with feelings but he didn’t want his friend feeling this way either. if they were gonna die, they might as well have a fucking blast.” lighting up his phone, he switched its flashlight on, illuminating the discarded alcohol on the large table. “wanna get shitfaced?”
