dylan + maisie.
“i’m not doing the cupid shuffle.” it’s matter of fact, and he almost regrets leaving his bed at all. the thing is, even during the storm he probably could have slept his way through the end of the world. however, he’d _promised _that he’d be here, so this is where he is. when the other approaches, his gazed is perked up from his spot, a beer in his hand but it’s gone warm to sipping. instead of sticking around for conversation, dylan opts to leave. he’s halfway down an empty hall, rounding the corner when the lights shut off. his frame is immediately darted into, and both of them collided into each other.·“jesus–” two bumped heads, and a few seconds later, he’s pulling back and trying to find his phone that had been knocked to the ground with the other.·“are you alright–· what the hell happened to the lights?”·
❛ oh fuck me. ❜ maisie groaned from the floor, reaching to the back of her head to make sure she wasn’t bleeding. that would really be the icing on the shit cake of the last few weeks. being deposed didn’t do a lot for someone’s self confidence and the party felt like a kick in the teeth for all she’d done and tried to do. but she was here, trying to make it seem like bitterness wasn’t threatening to consume her, and up until now, maisie hadn’t been having the worst time. ❛ i’m fine. ❜ she told him after a moment, getting back up and steadying herself, bringing both her phone out of her pocket and producing his phone. ❛ i think this is yours. as far as the lights, i have no idea what happened. ❜ turning on her flashlight, she mustered a half smile and said, ❛ hey dylan. sorry for the run in. ❜

darkness enveloped the room as jack made his way down the hallway, hands clasping his keychain flashlight in his fist. the small trinket blinked small flashes of light; just barely enough to illuminate the way. his slim fingers traced the walls, relying on his sense of touch to keep him from slamming into things. he really needed to get new batteries.
recognizing an audible, albeit muffled voice through a set of heavy double doors, jack finally stopped in his tracks. pushing the doors open with a gentle kick before sauntering into the room.
he scanned the room, eyes locking on a certain blonde-haired, green eyed girl, feeling an instant flood of relief. he had worried that she had been injured or pushed around in a frenzied crowd. of course, he’d never utter any of these thoughts out loud. he wouldn’t dare.
“what’s the matter ice queen, scared of a little thunderstorm?” he quipped, a smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth.
❛ scared about the storm ? no. ❜ there’s a half smile on her face as she tried to push the rest of her anxieties down. there was much more that she was worried about than the storm, this was just a contributing factor. the green lightning had her gears turning and even though she didn’t want to risk injury by leaving the room, part of her did want to run down to the library and see if she could do any research about her theories. until then, though, she was stuck in the lecture hall and debating the merits of leaving. and then jack came in and her worst thoughts seemed to leave, if only for a few minutes. ice queen hurt though. ❛ what are you doing here ? were you looking for me ? ❜
minnie + maisie.
・ 。 ◟ @maisielidell / 😈
simple . that was the word minnie was looking for , to describe how her coup d'etat against maisie had been . she couldn’t deny it , that the femme had done well for the town ; she had laid down the foundation , made sure they survived – but that’s ALL she was needed for . minnie used the corruption of the townspeople to her advantage , their complaints & their ill-will to suit her own needs . chaos had been created , she came out unscathed . she finds the blonde now in the madness , a cup filled with water raised up to her lips as the sound of her heels echo in the quiet halls . ‘ think this is an omen ? ’ her voice is sultry , DANGER lurking on the edges of her words as she approaches from behind . ‘ god trying to warn us of the devil in charge ? or what was the term you used ? ’ strides to her side , sending her a side glance . ‘ TYRANT ? ’
every time maisie tried to think about how she’d ended up here, she couldn’t fully comprehend what was happening. had this been a game, she would have been sincerely, thoroughly impressed. the wild card was always hard to predict and those who do things for the sake of doing them, who are agents of chaos because it is fun to watch it unfold, are wild cards. but this wasn’t a game, this was people’s lives, and there wasn’t an end to this that would work out for everyone with minnie in charge. based on how much food they’re using, how much power they’re generating, it’s all going to blow up in minnie’s face and that would be so sweet to see if it didn’t spell death for everyone else.
where others would hear danger, maisie only heard the trombone of the teacher from charlie brown. every time minnie opened her mouth, maisie felt like another part of her had died and been dragged to hell. whoever had told minnie that this was a sign of god warning the devil had maisie’s respect, but that wasn’t maisie’s kind of rumor to spread. she barely believed there were higher powers at play as it was, this certainly wasn’t helping. if maisie were a believer, maybe she would have thought that this was a test from the powers that be wanting her to prove herself, that if she could reclaim leadership then it was proof that it was meant to be hers. she didn’t have faith in anyone that was true.
❛ yes, tyrant. ❜ maisie stood behind everything she said, every last bit of it. tyrant had greek origins, once simply meaning one who illegally seized power. though the word had evolved and came to mean cruel dictatorship, maisie wasn’t ready to quantify that just yet. of course, if minnie took the accusation in that way, maybe the shoe fit, like cinderella’s shoe but for power-obsessed beings of chaos and harbingers of death. was she being too dramatic ? ❛ i don’t think you’re the devil minnie, and i don’t think god is punishing anyone. i think it’s a meteorological phenomenon. there are at least five volcanoes that are extinct that i can think of in new hampshire and green lightning can happen when volcanic ash is oxidized. maybe one of them became active again. ❜
