“ –– i’ll never convince you otherwise if you don’t trust me. ”
“but i do trust you - - - i don’t trust myself.”
@nctsxmson said: “ i’m afraid you’ll replace me. ”
“ –– that’s not possible. ”
“how can you be so sure?”
‘ yes, several times actually. though i don’t really see how logical thinking translates into an oddity ‘round here. sure there is ! it’s called natural selection. ’
“i’m surprised natural selection hasn’t chosen my brother yet, in all honesty - - - don’t tell him i said that though.”
‘ you just informed me that we need more and i literally just got those not even a week ago so..how else should i look at you? ’
“maybe not like I’m an idiot - - - because it’s not my fault ; i’m not the one that was using them.”
@nctsxmson › dead like me !
‘ –– –– five deaths is not a disaster. it takes MORE than five. five’s bullshit. sixteen to twenty ? disaster. twenty one and up ? catastrophe. eight to fifteen is a calamity. seven and under ? now, that’s a crying shame. ’
“.... You’re very odd, did anyone ever tell you that? don’t you reckon that any deaths is a disaster, no matter the number ?? although, it wouldn’t even count as a disaster. if you think about all the people who have died in the world, i reckon there wouldn’t even be a word for it.”
‘ i’m sorry but are you kidding me?! ’ hazel hues turned and slightly narrowed at the other. ‘ i just got that on the last run! ’
“does it look like i’m kidding?” delilah dead-panned, raising an eyebrow. “don’t look at me like that.”
‘ –– –– you’re in rations, right ? ’
“well, yeah. i am. so if you’re my boss, that means you are too?”
‘ carrying things. you’re strong, right? and… ’ he looked around theatrically. ‘ shit, you’re the only one here! which makes you my new best friend. ’
delilah let out a laugh before rolling her eyes. ‘roll back the attitude, mate. but of course, i’ll help. out of the both of us, i’m probably the strongest.’
‘ no, i’m just staring at you for no reason. ’ he smiled. ‘ i’d love some help. and if you want, i’ll help unpack. but that seems like such a personal thing. ’
“i’m flattered, truly.” she deadpanned. “what do you need help with?”
‘ well, you are ! and since i’m your boss, i’m guessing that makes me the unofficial welcome committee. you know how to chop carrots, don’t you ? ’
“uh, how are you my boss exactly?? but of course I do.”
“ WHAT duties ?”
“Finding lost family members. well, member.”
“ no, I’m not busy at all, just... unpacking or whatever. I didn’t actually think I’d be staying in this town, but... duties call. Did you need something?”
by a few months, called the brash sixteen year old boy: who loved delilah with all his heart and little else. but that wasn’t what jon was now, and he just swallowed the words down, back to the back of his mind. “ i –– i don’t do that… now. ”
“oh. well, sorry.” she was at a loss for words, delilah felt uncomfortable in her own skin with this new information - - - her brother who wouldn’t hug her, her brother who she thought dead. “how did you - how are you here?” how are you alive?
“ –– delilah. ” it was a wonder how he was breathing when he felt like he was drowning. the sound of that name in his voice made jon feel six years old again, in a new home with a new sister. “ h-hi. ”
She smiled and breathed a huge sigh of relief. “Hey, little brother.” Delilah stood there awkwardly in front of him, pursing her lips again. How does she talk to him? She didn’t know, it seemed after ten years, everything she knew about him just disappeared. “Uh - - - can I hug you?”
the grip on his cane immediately tightened at the sound of his name, and he stopped walking to turn around, a shocked look on his face. “ –– sorry, how did you know my name ? ” he asked, trying to keep his voice calm.
“I’m-” It’s been ten years, relax. It’s okay. delilah pursed her lips, trying to fight the tears that were forming. “it’s me... delilah. your sister. delilah acker-miller. me. delilah.”
@jcnacker
“hey dude, excuse m-” her words died at the sight of the man’s face, an all too familiar face. “jon?” delilah murmured quietly, eyes widened at the total disbelief of him being alive. “you’re...” alive? “here? I can’t - Jon.”
