“Right. Yeah, of course.” She hasn’t known anything about it. She’s never been interested in politics, especially not at her dad’s level at any rate, and she visits Earth so fleetingly nowadays. She doesn’t like coming back to times near her own in particular. Too many memories. Too many deaths. She only comes back for heroics and catch ups with old friends.

              “I get it. Shame but, never mind. How’s it been? For you, I mean.”

“it goes as well as it does for anyone who happens to be the head of an organisation involved with the extraterrestrial.” muses. familiar ping comes from the office computer - another email, how many was that today? - and elodie heads back to her desk. sound in the room is nothing but the speedy clicking and clacking as email is replied to.

when done, attention returns to clara. “you know kate well?”

       “Right.” Her smile flickers. Her question remains unanswered, but she’s unsettled by the answers she HAS been given to questions unasked. Kate had always been a friend. Someone she could trust. It’s why she returns to UNIT, even if only every once in a while.

         “Clara Oswald. No one special. Just a friend, I guess.” She takes Elodie’s hand and shakes it. The smile grows more confident. “I didn’t know there’d been a change in personnel. When did that happen? Is she not working for UNIT at all any more?”

clara oswald. certainly a friend but hardly no-one, elodie was sure she had seen that name in UNIT’s files. she’d have to look into it but if kate had trusted her enough to give her access then elodie saw no reason to not trust her. yet. being the newest leader of UNIT meant elodie couldn’t afford to make mistakes.

      “I’m sure you’re aware of the UK’s recent exit from the european union. UNIT is an organisation that has ties with the EU, and so it went under review due to funding issues. an agreement was made eventually and now UNIT is back in all its glory.”

“I wish I could tell you about kate’s position but she seems to be a special case as far as I’m aware. my apologies.”

        “OH. Hi.” Clara flashes a smile, but there’s a light frown on her face like the thunder after the lightning. She’s used to this being Kate’s office, not…well, whoever this is. She glances around before stealing a look at her watch. Strange. Maybe they’ve changed everything around.

         Her smile returns. “Sorry, thought this was Kate’s office. Is she around?”

     iPad is placed down on the desk and elodie leaves her seat. people asking for kate was hardly anything new - elodie’s promotion had come rather quickly and, it seemed, not everyone was yet informed. “I think your watch might be off a year or two. this is my office now.” hand is held out. “elodie arquette, the new UNIT chief.”
