I Believe and I Stand for It: My Personal Philosophy

I believe the key to a productive yet fun and fulfilling student life is to study while having fun. Nothing is more stressful as a student than just studying all day and only thinking about academics 24/7. There are five important elements for a productive and fun-filled student life. (1) Listen and pay attention in class so you don’t have to relearn the topics from the beginning when there is a test to avoid cramming. (2) Entertain yourself with something else when no information is processing in your mind, taking a break is okay. (3) Studies and having fun should be balanced, time management should be used. (4) Never cheat, it is not fun to cheat on your achievements and learnings. It would not be of help in the long run. (5) Surround yourself with like-minded people, a good learning environment is vital.

Nutrition & Dietetics: Code of Ethics

The Code of Ethics for Nutritionist-Dietitians in the Philippines has a lot of sections but I have chosen three that I think about the most.

No. 1 The Nutrition and Dietetics profession has as its primary objective the improvement of the nutritional status of the Filipino people. A Nutritionist-Dietitian’s primary duty is to improve the nutritional status of the Filipino people. This should be in every RND’s mind first and reflected in what is done daily at work. Having the ability to serve the country and its people is an honor that must be done right.

No. 2 The Nutritionist-Dietitian must be able to acknowledge and have the courage and humility to accept criticisms and to profit from mistakes. As a professional, a person must be able to accept criticisms and admit to the mistakes they have committed. Nutritionist-Dietitians should remain humble, have integrity, and act with sound judgment. Improvement in skills happens when there is failure, a person learns from mistakes and does things differently so as not to repeatedly fail again.

No. 3 The Nutritionist-Dietitian shall at all times promote the nutritional welfare of the client, whether in a health care institution or in the community. The third is related to the first one as serving the people to improve their nutritional status must be promoted not only in health facilities but also in their communities. Attaining optimal health and nutrition takes time and effort, rushing the process can harm the client more than help them. Promoting proper nutrition in communities can give better results as it not only affects the client but also their environment which proves to be much more long-lasting.
