Wearing All The Shoes

A silly exercise in self-discipline.

061816. Broke in the new hiking boots on a Father's Day hike to Anthony's Nose. A great trail and overdue for me to do it. Now, checked off the family list. In addition to the lovely exchange of "happy Father's Day" over and over again as families passed one another, the best comment came from a fuss of a mom out with her husband and daughter. "I don't want to sit on a rock. It's unreasonable you didn't bring a chair." Happy Father's Day, you poor guy.

061016. Kicky new-ish flats. Tomato suede? Purchased on a real whim at a discount retailer because they were insanely cheap. And the color is awesome. Thank goodness they don't show the rosé I spilled on them a few weeks back.

030216. When your fly boots are working hard. But on conf calls and bouncing at the desk on the fit ball. These have been around for quite a while - another pair you can't go wearing every day. Bought them at Saks during lunch one day. Always m, one random person goes bananas over them when I wear them. So fun.

020416. Black Cashmere slippers. A few years old. Worn/eaten by the moths that attacked my sweaters. Holes there, don't care. Winter is finally showing up. In my son's room with his fab #flor carpet.

011416. I just found my boot cut Sevens again. They are looooooong. I am short. Knowing I put them on and they'd require a heel, I still felt a little slouchy heading out to see a dance class observation for the tiny lady. And, I wanted rubber soles...respect to the dance studio floor. These are a wedge boot that's mid calf, pull-on, beat up, lace around, kinda some faux shearling-y stuff on them. (I know, you can't see much here; take my word for it.) They work for winter shlumpy "heels".

010616. Yep, your eyes do not deceive you. Those are pink suede lace up boots. And I'll have them until I pass them down to my daughter. Bought on a whim eons ago (ya think?!), they see about 3-4 wears a year. Because honestly, you can't go running around in these all the time. But with a new pink sweater, who knows, they may get busted out a little more often.

010416. Happy new boots! Gray, gray, the best neutral, the most universally-flattering color on the planet. Have been wanting gray suede boots for a few years but my skinny calves were not having prior selections. Thanks to my dear husband for scoring them for me for Christmas. They stretch. How does "stretch suede" work, anyhow? (Who cares, they fit, whee!) I love these even more now that I see a pic of me wearing them 💕

122915. Sometimes the shoe of the day mostly consists of ski boots. My L ast year for rentals, I think. These are kind of an odd dark chocolate color, but I think I like them. Grew on me the last couple days.

A Christmas list request fulfilled. Black leather TOMS classics. I am pretty sure these are the new go-to 3-season shoe. Love them. Thank you in-laws! Comfy & a slip-on that can make me look a hell of a lot more spiffy than a pair of old Merrells or the like. Plus, digging the TOMS metal label on the back.

121715. Moto boots. I love these, they rank up with the best of the investment pairs. I think I've worn them at least ten times this season but they are so easy to slip in/out of, I forget pictures. Heavier but not so much so they unbalance my skinny stems. Two buckles, super comfortable, like walk-all-day-awesome. I can't recall which came first, these or the riding boots. Same brand.

121315. This is a tennis sneaker, and an older one at that. Since I don't get to play that much, they've served (HA!) me well for quite some time. I had to position it next to my Christmas tree, to make the point that a 70-degree day where I played an hour and a half + off sleeveless outdoor tennis in NY today is just WEIRD. Have to say, certainly enjoyed it, though.

120415. Wore these yesterday. Look! My legs are invisible. Ha. Had these for years; toe is kind of pointy, wedge not too high. Actually love the style, but they are not well made/high quality materials. The outsides look spiffy but the insides are a mess. They're staying but only until I fall in love with a replacement...be forewarned, wedge booties.

120115. The season of the riding boot and women ages 20-55 wearing the uniform of skinny jeans, a vest, and riding boots. Kind of Han Solo-like, but more accessories that don't shoot lasers. These are more cognac-y than they look in this murky parking garage. And they are wonderful, a staple. Giddy up!

112415. In my daughter's room, packing for Thanksgiving. And, I realized my tights matched some of the dots on her bedskirt. Speaking of skirts - wore a mini on this chilly day, so that demanded some flat boots. These arelikeamillionyearsold - ok not quite, but again a score from Barneys at some point. Are the equivalent of boot-slippers with a zip up the back. A real score. As in, I still curse myself for not splurging on a second pair in a different color. Dammit.

111415. So I agreed to co-chair a volunteer effort and got a friend signed up with me, and jeez did we get in over our heads. We sealed and painted the giant parking lot/playground at my daughter's elementary school. Today was the third day of the effort. This is the second day these shoes joined me. Now to be forever paint splashed, in addition to old, worn, comfy, work-outside shoes.

110615. Fall colors. Yet, it was 75 degrees today. Seventy-five, craziness. Fall colored shoes, rug, I guess even the guitars in back of me. I can't remember where I got these but it was during the Manhattan period. So likely Loehmanns? Slightly sexier business pumps. Like, da bidness. Camel & black patent...you don't run into that every day.

102115. My black leather boots. Mine like they used my legs as the damn fit model. Have had for years (many) and they're on the verge of re-soling #2. The leather is shiny, soft...and did I mention they fit perfectly? What you can't see is the heel. It's an inch. A petite, flat heel - dainty but not pointy. Makes them practical and slightly elvish. Bought at Sacco in NYC when I lived on 14th St. Yes, the pointy toes might make my feet look longer. The way that they fit my calves is almost a crime. Balances out.
