And another! This one actually has a story behind it

So I was workin in town going door to door and I saw something on the grass beside the sidewalk When I walked by, it didn’t move, so I obviously got worried. Most animals would immediately dart out of the way when a person walks in such close proximity to them.

So I slowed down and took a closer look and it was a young magpie, just chilling in the grass. I approached and it sort of hopped out of the way, but didn’t fly. After following it around for a bit, I became aware it couldn’t fly.

So I tried to pick it up, only for it to scream at me (a natural reaction) And I heard its probably parent scream back But I couldn’t see it anywhere and it wasn’t attacking me. I stopped following it around and stood there for a moment, only for it to start moving towards the road. I didn’t want it to get run over, so I walked over, slipped my hand under it, and just... picked it up. It didn’t fight, didn’t struggle, just let it happen. So I brought it closer to my chest and away from the road.

Someone had watched me pick it up and was dumbfounded going “How did you do that?” and I kind of shrugged and went “I just kind of picked it up” and asked if they had a box to put it in They went inside to go get it, and I messaged my coworker who was going round with me The magpie jumped down and I repeated the pick up process, which it once again accepted. But then, it jumped up on my shoulder.

When the guy came out again with a box, we tried to start putting it in, only for it to start screaming again and jump onto my head After a few minutes of struggle, we got it in the box, but it was understandably still freaked out So I reached into the box and gently pet it, and it just... calmed down.

The work car pulled around to pick us up after that so I don’t know what happened or if the magpie is ok or anything, but I hope it is And honestly if I didn’t have a picture it would seem like an r/thathappened lol
