“While creation is originally good, and not to be eschewed, a malignancy has been introduced. When God mercifully decided to redeem his people, he did not take them out of the world. Nor did he identify the creation as evil. Rather he placed them in the world in order to be saved and then cured them of the cancer. Avoiding the seduction of the worldly system, we nevertheless engage the world and continue to transform it. While we wait for the life to come, we do not simply evangelize, though we certainly do proclaim the gospel. We take on doing his will on earth, as it is in heaven (Mt 6:10; Rom 12:1-2). That will is comprehensive, not just so-called spiritual endeavors, but actually including the whole realm of human life: family, citizenship, farming, artistic pursuits- in short, culture.”
