♛ BIOGRAPHY
↳ family lineage.
edwyn, nicknamed ned, was the second son of lord rickard stark and lady serena ryswell. he was a small and sickly baby, to the point that many in the castle thought that he wouldn’t survive the week. with his mother’s focused care, however, he outlived expectations and grew into a hearty young boy. even after he no longer relied on her care, he remained close to his mother, spending much of his time inside watching her sew rather struggling to keep up with his siblings. lord stark quickly put a stop to this when ned was old enough to start martial training. as much as he missed spending time with his mother, his father’s disapproval was more than enough to get him to throw himself wholeheartedly into his lessons and training.
the older he grew, the more he felt that there was something just slightly off about him. he worked hard at his training, and was growing stronger every day, but he still preferred to spend his free time curled up with a book than roughhousing. he didn’t show the normal signs of being interested in girls that boys his age did, even in picking on them. he was teased for it, earning comments that he should just give up and become a maester. the idea didn’t entirely disagree with him. but after the decimation of the stark family all those years ago, large families and keeping spares close to home had become the tradition.
when his mother passed away in childbirth, ned was devastated. he sat in a strange limbo; too old to need caring for like his younger siblings, but still his closest confidant gone in a flash. moreover, his father’s deep mourning put immense pressure on the oldest children to keep things running. he did his best to step up and help guide his younger brothers in their lessons, trying to take whatever part of the burden that he could. the household stabilized when his older brother married, even keeping an even keel when their father passed as well a few years later. as his brother’s most trustworthy and familiar relative, he was appointed to the council and sent south.
as all northerners, he experienced an initial culture shock to the freedom and quickness of the south. but he took to court life, truly coming into his own in the realm of diplomacy. the final piece of his transformation came when he found his way to the brothels. he went there in an attempt to train himself out of nervousness around flirting women, but ended up discovering the appeal of men instead. it wasn’t even an option he had considered until it was offered. with this newfound understanding of himself, he grew into a confident, charismatic, and flourishing man.
↳ personality.
ned does not at first appear to be your classic northerner. in his five years in the south, he has taken to southern fashion and takes a lot of pride in his grooming. with the help of his arryn friend on the council, he has become adept in court life and diplomacy. however, those few that know him well can see that he has a deep-seated sense of duty. his responsibilities in representing northern interests take precedence above all else.
↳ lannisters ruling.
the prince abdicating to his sister came as an immense shock to the council. they hardly had more time to prepare for the change than the rest of the world did. he was very outspoken in his opposition of the marriage of the princess to a lannister, earning him a few enemies on the council. he has been working to repair these relationships the best he can ever since. he is very nervous about those he knew as a youth arriving in the capital, as he is very aware that he has changed a lot. part of him is excited for them to see how he’s come into himself, but mostly he’s worried they’ll declare he’s become shamefully southern. or worse, the disparity between the bookish boy in the north and the flamboyant man in the south will be enough for them to discover his predilections.
