My only issue with the Viktor-And-Jayce-Living-Happily-In-A-Cottage-Ending everybody seems to have latched onto is that I think ppl are pretending that Jayce, the man who risked everything to get his partner back, stayed up night and day to watch his body and fought tooth and nail to help him find a cure, WOULDNT ALSO at least attempt to make sure that his gf knows he’s safe and alive. Yknow. I feel like he would think that’s important too.

He loved Mel just as much as he loved Viktor. Maybe he wouldn’t know where she was, or how to find her, but he’d at least TRY. And it makes me sad that ppl skim over that idk

When ppl say things like “he left Mel for Viktor”, they’re forgetting he left piltover, the city he was raised in, his home, his mom, Caitlin all behind to save the world.

If you find that romantic, that the biggest display of love is giving up everything, your family and loved ones for one person…I’m concerned ngl.

conclave the book is like so specifically written too like ... its so crazy. bellini's line about "families having 10 children because mama and papa didn't know any better" & "standing for everything tedesco does not" is like only a few pages apart from the reveal of tedesco's backstory being that he's the youngest of 12 kids and grew up destitutely poor from that (& still eats like he's terrified someone might steal his food). like ohh... tedesco is a product of his environment and the paradigm of the traditional values failing people & still trying to force those values on people despite knowing the firsthand experience of the way it sucks. crab in a bucket style.

The thing I was thinking the most while watching Conclave was actually a classmate I had in uni who is a nun. She talked about the role of women on the church and how there should be a woman pope. And like, years ago she was given a scholarship to study philosophy in Rome, except she couldn't. Because the nuns had to perform all the domestic labor for the priests and the workload was too big, add to that stuff like how no one could leave the dinner table before the archbishop and he liked to talk so sometimes he would make everyone stay until late at night and ofc the nuns had to clean up after that, or when the priests wanted to give the nuns an easy day they would decide they would have a picnic, but the nuns still had to prepare their picnic. My friend just couldn't find the time to study, so she dropped her scholarship and came back to Mexico.

And Conclave does such a good job of making this work visible, even when if only Sister Agnes speaks, there is always shots of nuns working. For everything the priests do, it's always shown how the nuns make it possible. Benítez standing out early on for being the one person to thank them. The film ending on a seemingly unrelated shot of nuns walking.

It's a very poignant statement given how reproductive labor is often invisibilized.

The Conclave bit where Lawrence is told "His Holiness is refusing to get dressed" and 2 seconds later Vincent saying to Thomas "I was waiting for you to come" is driving me INSANE. Vincent wouldn't get dressed - wouldn't become the Pope - before getting Thomas's approval and understanding. He knew Thomas would come to him, he knew they would have to talk, and he would delay the WHOLE THING until Thomas came and Vincent told him his secret.

The frankness, the simplicity, the beauty of "I was waiting for you to come" - Doubting Thomas, you must believe in me before I become this.
