Secondly, I do not acknowledge the stereotype. I think it’s complete BS, and boils down to people just finding something else to complain about in an already complained-about film. If you look at Neimoidian culture, it’s actually far more European than Asian; the Trade Federation is actually (and has been confirmed in literature to be) a direct analogue of the BRITISH East India Company. Their colonies are reminiscent of, again British, Portuguese, Dutch, etc history, and even their fashion, their obsession with headgear and height is both French and British in origin. I think the closest they get to in terms of Asia is the Europeanisation of Asia during the 17th-19th centuries. Furthermore, many Star Wars species and culture have some earthly comparison. The Twi’leks and the French, Iridonian Zabraks (ie Sugi) and India, etc. So why are the Neimoidians singled out? Is it because they are bad guys? A sizable majority of Imperials have British accents. Even Darth Vader has an arguable one...no one complained about them. No one called George Lucas for making the Original Trilogy villains British. Hell, I’M British and I don’t even give two tosses. The main thing I will say regarding this point is that if a person finds racism in something intended to be taken at face value, then they, themselves, may be the racist one.

Finally, I love Episode I. It’s my favourite Star Wars film, and is tied with Episode VII as my favourite film, period. I don’t think it’s the best one, however...that, in my opinion, would be Episode V.
