Is nobody going to talk about how King Ecbert’s lovely Roman painting is basically a parallel to the Aslaug - Ragnar - Lagertha love triangle. I mean, in the love triangle promo picture they’re standing right in front of it.

On the left we have - Justitia would be my guess. Winged like Aslaug in the god promo. ETA: Actually, second thought, Aslaug’s not Justitia, she’s Nike - winged victory incarnate.

In the middle, we have a goatlike creature - a satyr? a devil? - and Ragnar has become terribly fond of his goats.

On the right, we have Minerva, goddess of war - what clearer parallel to Lagertha could you want?

21: Then there’s tongue

The relationship between Ragnar and Athelstan was becoming more and more physically affectionate as the former monk moved further and further away from his old religion and more keen for exploring those actions which he had previously considered ‘sin’. Ragnar was all encouragement, eager to act on the desire that he’d harbored for him since the beginning. 

The two of them had a rare moment of privacy and were standing close to one another, sharing drinks on a cold night. Ragnar had not been able to resist a kiss, and when Athelstan reciprocated it with eagerness Ragnar pushed it further. He pressed their bodies together, making Athelstan drop his cup. He ran his own long fingers up through dark curls as he pressed the kiss deeper, teasing his lips apart so that he could explore his mouth with his tongue.

Ragnar already felt the heat of desire as their kiss had deepened, but when Athelstan slid into his lap he felt himself harden completely. He wrapped his arm around him, his other hand still tangled in his hair, and pulled him close as he rocked his hips up to meet his. 

It was Athelstan’s words that tugged a moan from his lips. The determination in his bright eyes.

He pulled him into another kiss with such eagerness that somewhere in the kiss was the faint copper taste of blood as his hands released Athelstan’s hair to begin tugging off his tunic.

Athelstan whimpers. He is going to get what he desires. His arms move and he aids Ragnar in lifting his tunic off. He eagerly lifts Ragnar's off his body, using all of his restraint to not rip it from the man's body. He presses his chest flush against Ragnar's as his hips instinctively rock. His heart is beating so hard he is sure it will jump out of his chest which scares him until he feels Ragnar's. His hand moves to brush Ragnar's cheek as he looks into the other man's eyes. "Take me. Please. I am yours to do with as you will."

Athelstan raises an eyebrow. "You were named after the goddess? That is a lot of responsibility to put on the shoulder of one so young."

Björn looked up at the man coming up to him, instinctively wary of what it was that he wanted. To be honest, he had no idea, and he didn’t like not knowing. He didn’t like being at the mercy of these people. But then the man began speaking in his language, completely taking Björn off guard. He blinked again, surprised, not sure what to make of it. “You speak my language,” he said, flinching back even as the other promised he would not hurt him.

He did not want the other man’s help or pity. It would have been better to have died in the battle and gone up to Valhalla with his comrades then to be captured and left at the mercy of these people. He needed to escape somehow, to make it back to Kattegat. “How do you speak my language?”

Athelstan nods, moving slowly so as to not spook the man. "I learned it in my travels to spread the word of God." He calmly pats the man's wounds, coming to a deep cut on the man's scalp. "This one is deep and will probably not heal if we do not stitch it." He rinses the cloth of before turning to the other monks and explaining the situation to them. He knows the man does not understand what is being said, but he does his best to convince the other monks that the Christian thing to do would be to treat the man's wounds and give him shelter, perhaps teaching him how to become a Christian while doing so. He knew the man would never be a Christian, but it was all that he could do to save his life.

The other monks grudgingly agreed to let him heal the man with the caveat that if anything should happen he would bear the blame and the punishment for it. He nodded in understanding before turning his attention back to the stranger. "They have agreed to let me help you heal. Are you able to walk or shall I get someone to help me carry you to my chambers?"

Rollo hissed through is teeth as he slammed harder and faster into the priest. Athelstan’s whimpering plea’s for more were not helping his control.

Athelstan's eyes close and his head falls slightly forward, giving his hair enough resistance to Rollo's grip that it caused pain in an enjoyable way. He pushes back into every one of Rollo's thrusts which inches him closer and closer to the edge.

Mid sentence, just as the story reached the climax, and Athelstan interrupted.  Like a child who couldn’t still his tongue.  Floki huffed and flicked his forehead.

"It is rude to interrupt, priest."  And the mood was lost now, he couldn’t regain it without starting over and that never went well.  Once a story had started, it was meant to finish, not be repeated without a first ending.

"Our fate was chosen, boy, and now we must live with it.  You are as much to blame as Ragnar for allowing you to stay."  He jangled the metal cuffs around his ankles, the Englishman’s attempt to hold him, and waggled his eyebrows.  "But this is not the first time I’ve been restrained.”

Athelstan huffs, reaching up and swatting at Floki's hand that is flicking his forehead. "I have never pictured you as one to be restrained. You always seemed to be the type to slip out of everyone's grip." He smirks slightly. "I do apologize though. I did not wish to be rude and interrupt your story." 

He looks from his hands then to Floki's. His hands still bore the mark of his almost crucifixion, but he was not bound like Floki. This was troubling to him on an unexpected level, but he didn't know why. "You shouldn't be bound like this. Or I should be bound with you. It is not right that you are bound like this." His eyes move to the cuffs on Floki's wrists and ankles. "Perhaps I can speak to Ecbert to remove them."
