The Legend of Akasaka, the Fallen Heir
In a remote village, the Matsumoto family had long been known as one of the most prestigious bloodlines, their lands abundant with rice fields and gardens. Respected like regional nobility, they were wealthy and influential.
Among them was Akasaka, the youngest son of the current head of the Matsumoto family. Unlike his elder brother—strong and destined to inherit the family’s vast fortune—Akasaka was born frail and weak. This difference became the seed of hatred. Their parents treated Akasaka with gentleness and pity, while demanding strength and perfection from the elder son. Over time, resentment turned to envy, and envy to cruelty.
One day, his brother deceived him, leading Akasaka deep into the forest. There, abandoned and left without food, the weak young man perished in despair and hunger. His death, however, was not one of disgrace, but of tragedy. The heavens took pity upon him, and when his soul cried out in fury, he was granted a new form: the mighty Ōtengu.
Reborn with black wings and divine wrath, Akasaka returned to his family’s estate. One by one, he unleashed his vengeance, until every member of the Matsumoto household was wiped out. The once-great mansion fell silent, its halls empty, its name erased from history.
To this day, the villagers whisper of the cursed ruins of the Matsumoto manor. They say a shadow with long wings still roams the land, and that to speak the name “Matsumoto” within those grounds is to invite the gaze of the fallen heir—Akasaka, the Ōtengu who destroyed his own bloodline.
