Chapter Three: The Devil at Your Door

“It was humanoid, but… wrong. Shifting forms and shapes so you had an idea of it in your mind, but otherwise it was indescribable. It was much like the way things flowed and changed in a dream, in a way. It looked like a man. A simple male face, like that of medieval stained glass of saints and angels that were just the same generic face with various hair colors. It would be perfectly human for a brief moment before distorting in some way: eyes halfway melted down the cheeks, or a Cheshire Cat grin going up to the eyebrows. Its features morphing and stretching like wax in a lava lamp.”

Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.

Human stuff Gabriel would be into in a Gabriel x Human scenario: an ongoing thread

I headcanon angels as a species to be… autistic-adjacent, if you will. Not autistic because they’re not human, but the overlap is major.

I feel like they’re all very sensory-seeking in their own unique way (Gabriel’s biggest one is totally tactile sti— WHO SAID THAT??? 👀) but I think Gabriel would be surprisingly into ASMR. Like personal attention and gentle whispers.
