Pretersolaria Institute: CC-Free Uni & Individual Lots

Eventually I want to share the entirety of Rhyolite Valley, but it's a bit hairy with the 47 sims & CC hood deco & the garbage data I let seep in while playing (so I'd have to remake all of that before sharing).

I thought I'd "practice" the process of remaking the hood by starting a little smaller: The uni subhood. Since I only made a handful of sims for it (which are not included... yet) and it works aesthetically without CC hood deco. Sounds simple, right? Weelllll it took about a week of near daily effort to actually do. Makes the prospect of doing the actual hood soooo much more exciting lol /s

Anyway, that's what this is: A new university subhood template that's CLEAN & EMPTY. As a bonus (or if you just don't like the subhood), I've also included individual lot packages for every lot in the subhood to use wherever you want.

The "gimmick" of this hood is that Rhyolite Valley, and by extension Pretersolaria Institute, is entirely self-sufficient & cobbled together by the local residents. Which means there's no indoor plumbing lol.

That also means that just sitting down at a computer to write a term paper isn't as easy as a regular uni. Students have to go to THE BOOKMOBILE to access computers. Same goes for the skill building required for each semester/major. You have to venture out to the relevant community lot to find the means for skill building.

I've included in the uni's photo album & the lot descriptions which skills are available to build on each lot. It'll say "+Cooking" or whatever skill(s) the lot can provide based on the objects it has.

WHERE/HOW TO INSTALL:

Place the "PRTR" folder in its entirety in the "Program Files > EA GAMES > The Sims 2 University > TSData > Res > NeighborhoodTemplate" directory. Or whatever equivalent location you have for a TS2 University folder in the Program Files section.

You can then select Pretersolaria Institute in the list of options when creating a new uni subhood in a neighborhood.

NOTES:

On 2 lots (Big Heart Dude & Wiploc Amphitheatre), I used the Seasons Music career reward The Rock Hammer for speaker deco. I used MoveObjects to delete the guitar but keep the speakers.

It's possible that either A. The guitars will respawn when you generate a new copy of the uni and/or move the lot in the hood, or B. Sims will attempt to play the guitar and complain about being blocked (because I purposely blocked them).

If the guitars respawn, you can just open the lot in Buy/Build mode and with MoveObjects On use the sledgehammer tool to remove the guitar.

If sims are complaining about not being able to reach the guitar, well they're not supposed to be able to lol. If hearing them complain annoys you, then just delete the whole object.

The Wiploc Amphitheatre may also have some glitchy-looking ground that you can see in neighborhood view when the camera moves. This is because I shortened the lot with Lot Adjuster. I don't know how to make it stop doing that, because I've transferred the lot to other hoods, packaged the lot, Lot Cleaner'd it, Lot Compressor'd it, moved it to the Lots & Houses Bin, etc. and it has never stopped looking like that. So again if that annoys you, remove the lot I guess?

That's all I can think of to note. I playtested all of the lots & fixed whatever I noticed, but please let me know if there are any problems. I've never done this before specifically with a uni subhood, so it's very likely I messed up somewhere.

Hi everyone!! I’m back with another TS3/TS4 comparison picture!!! Like a sequel to the first one I posted last week on Sims4Fan.com and that everybody suddenly shared all over the world!! Thank you all again!!

I chose to reproduce this image simply because I think it’s the more complex one than we have so far, and therefore one of the most difficult to reproduce (If only I knew how really hard it would be to do that…) but I also think it intelligently shows that the Sims 4 graphics are far from being awful, they are full of spells, heat and very pleasant to the eye.

Let me tell you how I made this picture:

Firstly, I would like to clarify that no editing  has been done on the image, except changing the color of both cherry trees in the background, and flowers in front of the house, since none of them matched the colors of the plants of the original picture, it was only to match colors for these elements. I deliberately chose to not do any other editing to not distort the authenticity of the graphics and the light of The Sims 3.

At first, I wanted to use only the Sims 3 base game to make a “base game VS. base game” comparison image, but too many items were missing to make the image as faithful as possible, so I abandoned that idea and I used all EPs and SPs.

I used the ( beautifully disastrous and deplorable ) Create a World Tool to place practically everything, I looked the direction of the shadows, I created textures with Photoshop for the road and sidewalks, then I have traced them, placed trees, bla bla bla, finished with building houses and the curved bridge. I exported the world, installed it in the game, then I created the 3 sims at the bottom of the picture, I placed them, positioned the camera and voilà!

I think it took me over 6 hours (not straight) to do it.

The three biggest problems were, first, to take the time to review all the catalogs of the game and the CAW to find items that are most similar to those of the original picture. A big problem on the windows of the house, impossible to place them properly since they are 1x1 square, while I wanted them to be at the center of two squares, so I was forced to download the same windows on ModTheSims but in 2x1, then I also downloaded matching shutters.

Another difficult thing was to manage with the roof of the house so it looks visually acceptable. Moreover, you can see missing corners in moldings of the roof, and for some reason they appeared completely black, like unenlightened, so I fixed it as best I could.

I also wanted to raise the height of the 1st floor, but as the beams of the porch didn’t followed, the result was horrible so I left at normal height.

And finally, the bridge in the background was rather difficult to achieve, besides it does not look as good as I wanted to, because of the curving thing.

The first comparison image I did was so easy compared to this one, trust me! But I still had fun doing it and I realized how The Sims 4 are visually more accomplished and beautiful than its predecessor, with lots of surprising and lovely details! The build mode really seems to have been redesigned, at least more than what I thought couple months ago.

Hi, everybody, a while ago I wrote an article on Sims4Fan.com, but I wanted to share it here in English, with a little update, anyway there it is:

Since the announcement of The Sims 4, we’re all so excited to discover more about the game, but today I will talk about neighborhoods that we could probably found in the base game. Yes, I said "neighborhoodS" !

First, let me remind you that we have identified several types of environments over time:

( The official concept art of Rivera)

(The neighborhood inspired of New Orleans)

(The Nordic style area)

(The modern style one from Gamescom)

(An unconfirmed concept art inspired by Vernazza (Italian city) by Tony Ianiro)

But only two (for the moment) seem to be confirmed as part of the game: Riviera (confirmed by EA), and the New Orleans inspired neighborhood (the first official images of the game). But you’re going to say "yes, but the area with houses with the northern European style, and the modern area were also taken from the game”.

The problem is that the Nordic style, although it seems to be advanced, enough to probably not be just a simple test area for developers, this image comes from the first leak in August. However, after the revelation of The Sims 4 to the world, why has it not been published by EA as an official image (unlike all the others)? The answer to this question would it be relate to the design of GUI that could displease some players? Hope it’s just that ...

For the modern area, it is (for me) much less sure, since the picture comes from the Sims Camp at Gamescom, which had here the goal to show the capabilities and opportunities for building, etcetera... But if we think about it, it may just be a residential area, a group of modern houses that would be in any neighborhood. Like in the image of Nordic style area, look at the house in the foreground...

And finally we have the Vernazza inspired concept art. There is, in my opinion, a very little chance that it is in the base game because of its aspect maybe too touristy. Maybe on a vacation themed EP, or for the Icarus project, which we know absolutely nothing so far. Only the future will tell !

We can also mention the other concept art of Tony Ianiro, with this neighborhood that strangely looks like Strangetown of The Sims 2:

But also to its Sims 3 version, Lucky Palms:

And even if those are not official (which is why I prefer not to dwell on it), I cannot stop telling myself, with this diversity of environment and nostalgia, that it is likely that the base game will offer several neighborhoods, and perhaps even those of The Sims 2. Which wouldn’t really be a surprise, because The Sims 4 seems to be very close to The Sims 2, graphically and spiritually.

But it was after long hours of searching and viewing images on the web, trying not to say stupid things, that I realized that many of these environments could be in one and only neighborhood: Rivera! And I know that for some people it seems obvious, but for a French person like me, or anyone who doesn't live in the USA or who has never visited New Orleans, it is NOT, simply because this city has a very diverse architecture which change from neighborhood to another!

Anyways, for those who didn't noticed that, Rivera is not only a neighborhood with old buildings along the water, it is actually completely inspired by New Orleans, and several cities in the southern USA !

Thus, we would found in Rivera:

- Buildings Inspired of the French Quarter of New Orleans:

  - But also inspired by the Riverwalk of San Antonio (for the lights):

- A New Orleans style inspired by the famous St. Charles Avenue, with rich mansions and the famous streetcar:

Oh God ! Jazz absolutely has to be back in the Sims now !!

But what about the Nordic style one?

It is, indeed, impossible to see timbered houses in Rivera, as the architectural styles do not come from the same areas of the world, so it would make no sense! But strangely, the image reminds us a lot of Veronaville from The Sims 2:

There is also something really intriguing that I found on Twitter recently, published by @SimsDomination, which reveals that in fact all the modern houses presented at Gamescom come from the Nordic style neighborhood, see:

SimGuruGraham said on Twitter: “What we showed at Gamescom was a tiny fraction of the content that'll be available in the final game in nearly every way.” I think he’s completely right, and that he was also talking about Sims 4 neighborhoods.

To conclude, we can say that from all we know for now, we might expect The Sims 4 to offer a minimum of two neighborhoods, Rivera and Veronaville’s successor, maybe even a third one with Strangetown ! Or even more ! Who knows? Well… EA knows, of course! Hope we get real new informations really soon. Maybe on March at the Games Conference 2014!!
